When can we get a certified C&Rsenal poster of the Mauser family tree? Sounds like a fun, not so concise project. Thanks guys for all the wonderful content!
Agreed I love there posters so much got 3 hung up in my living room
I'd like a Mauser poster as well, Mannlicher would be a cool poster too.
Yes please
@@mysterymete You could paper your wall with it. Come to think of it, that would be really cool.
I agree please make it happen
The great thing about re-watching the Primers after a long time is for things like "we'll talk about that later" and not having to wait.
Funny thing: many rural Turkish households still got Ottoman World War 1 Mausers at home. Turks somehow spell them "Mavzer".
Not to mention Lee-Enfields converted to 8x57.
Also, Mauser is pronounced like Ma-UH-Saerr in Turkish, Mavzer (with the right amount of Turkish pronounciation) will be much closer to the original German word.
The first gun I ever shot was a 1930 conversion ''Enfauser'' - a Lithgow reciever SMLE No.III in 8x57 Mauser: ua-cam.com/video/3VQjo3MhgVw/v-deo.html
Sincerely, a Turk.
@@kayraaa2646 wow, your so lucky. Those things are so cool
How well I remember that terrible day
How the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He chased us with bullets, he rained us with shells
And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia
But the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
We buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then we started all over again
Now those that were left, well we tried to survive
In a mad world of blood, death and fire
And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive
But around me the corpses piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over tit
And when I woke up in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, I wished I was dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying
For no more I'll go waltzing Matilda
All around the green bush far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me
LEST WE FORGET
Do not underestimate how much of this we are doing specifically in honor of those who fought, and died.
I went through a period a few months ago where I couldn't get enough of that song. I played it to death every time I had to drive somewhere. My friends were very perplexed.

It is snowing outside, it is warm inside and C&Rseneal in on... Life is good. :)))
Watching Mae shoot and that smile after she has finished makes my day. OH......there was a Mauser there also!!!!!
"Not the most beautiful rifle ever made."
Othais holds up Crozier as a defense against Mae's words.
another cracking episode.
you guys not only keep delivering but keep setting the bar higher and higher.
I am now nearly 2.5 years+ish behind; but I had to start at the beginning. It was the right thing to do.I have enjoyed this series so much, that while being so far behind, I had to become a Patron. This is my very first patron event. But I truly enjoy the channel, and I want to support it, and Thank you for all the effort.
Thank you for the support and for helping make this possible for the next guy to discover 2 years from now!
The banter is strong with this one.
I found an Argentine Model 1891 a few years ago. They have, as you say, a certain elegance. Looking forward to your doing an episode on them. Thanks.
Bulgaria ordered 60 000 rifles Manliher M 1888 in 1889. There were probably more ordered after that, but aside from the initial contracts, information on the web is scares. I may chack in the museum if anybody is interested.
This is probably the contract you are talking about.
If i'm not mistaken the song of the second shooting section is "Tief drinn im Böhmerwald". written by Andreas Hartauer.
A glasworker born in what is now the Czech republic and was at the time Austria. He moved to what is today Austria and later in his life wrote the song in which he expressed the desire to see the area of his growing up again.
I'm slowly catching up having only recently discovered this channel and this is by far my favourite episode
Nice touch with the period music during shooting demonstration.
Yay, finally someone covering the ottoman Mausers!
Oh baby a triple!!!
It's 4:23am and I'm sitting here with youtube open engrossed in Othias's dulcet tones. Welcome to my obsession!
Always right before I fall asleep I was squinting my eyes dozing off before this but now I’m here. Oh it’s a good thing I love C&Rsenal.
When you revealed the 8mm converted 1889 I thought to myself "that's going to be a stiff, gritty, poorly executed mess." You've demonstrated some front line, purpose built rifles that don't work as smoothly as that beat-up, captured, and converted rifle.
Mae didn't wear a fez -10 for realism
Ottoman Empire lacked Mae. +10 for Mae, actual.
I picked up a "surplus" Turkish Mauser, 1937, long barrel, that had a clean bore. Decided to see how it shot. Even with factory ammo, and original sights, it was a tack driver. After mounting a scope, and trying it in a rather inexpensive stock, to see what it could do, decided I liked the lean and clean, simple military look. Put it in a much nicer Argentine stock and furniture with a rear receiver peep and front fibre/hood sight and had a ball at military type target meets. Some grumbles about the sight mods, but, I was using stripper clips, they had magazines, sour grapes. It was also an eye opener when shooting against scoped up guys on the off hand silhouettes. .Named it "Turkish Tina". For $49.95+ the finest firearm I've ever shot. Aloha y'all.
In handling my 1893 made 1891 with its short handgaurd I think the purpose of the short handgaurd on the 1890 was that since the barrel jacket was gone and therefore its heat absorption was lost, a place for the hand to grasp over the handle for bayonet fighting was needed. If you hold an early 1891 or 1890, like you were bayonet fighting, the handgaurd is just big enough to keep the hand away from the barrel.
Well done as always guys! Keep up the good work.
The only tie-in not mentioned here is the Captured Ottoman 1890s which the British supplied to the Belgians, who used them on the Western Front. Excellent episode.
I had read about it but didn't manage a "hard" line on one to confirm the story. Would make sense though.
Not WW1 but on the same ground , when Belgium surrendered in 1940 it left 15 km of front open between the BEF and the sea in the north. This was filled by both a movement of front line BEF but also, and initially, by a scratch force of rear echelon troops who armed them selves with abandoned Belgian Mausers and ammunition.
YEAH!!!! new things, I've been having cravings for this again.
Four and a half years of war has clearly taken it's toll on Othias. It's good that Mae hasn't been affected. :)
"A vision of pure beauty and Mae." Dude, you are so lucky she didn't slap you silly.
I think Mae was giving him the butt stroke right in the kisser stare.
@@bongobrandy6297 I saw that too. I have to wonder what happened after he turned off the camera. If he's even half as smart as I think he is he'll be spending the next six months begging forgiveness.
The new C&Rsenal is here, the new C&Rsenal is here!!!
I love how fast all these rifles kept evolving just like that cars of today just can't wait for the next years model 🤣 thanks for the vid
"The May Show" needs more DINOSAURS!!! =D
It's kinda weird, now being past November 11, having come over here from the Great War originally, it feels like the war is over. Than I remember, for many the war wasn't over on the 11th, and many of these guns would go on to be used on and on for another few decades.
It has officially become a mini series in the middle of a “major” series!?! Fantastic work as usual, and that cartouche still looks amazing and the wood beautiful.
Great show guys! Could you recommend a good book about the mechanical side of small arms and how it evolved in time? Thanks in advance.
Sending this to my dad. Why is anyone watching the history channel when this is available
i like your videos - alot of info, well done
Thank you
I have an example of the later conversion of the Turk 90 to the new caliber, by of all people, FN. I can supply pix if you want. They changed the barrel to 8 mm, and added the later model sight, and altered the hand guard as your drawing shows. It is complete with the original Belgian supplied sling...
Wonderfull!!!
Now I feel we need one .32 pistol😉
That Sultan marking is called a Tughra btw.
"Working with what they had" Othias they had John Fricking Browning.
John "Mah Fuggin" Browning
John "The Machine" Browning

Film stops and Mae's first words are: "This is going to be a discussion". lol
If I could take any rifle from that time period into ww1, it would be a Mexican arisaka carbine in 7mm Mauser
46:35, it's a good thing you two know each other pretty well @C&Rsenal
29:15 i love that part.
Sounds funny if you think about it. For a while J.M. Browning was working for DWM.
You sure that's not Mark in a German uniform at 4:05?
Just kidding, I'm familiar with that picture of Goltz but they sure look alot alike,

Thanks for that
I always knew bicycles are whacky stuff!
Thanks for confirming that!
Whats the German designation for the 8mm converted Belgian 1889? Did the Landwehr prefer it over the Gewehr 1888? And was the rear sight also updated since 8mm has different ballistics to 7.65mm roundnose?
I was terrified that you would stop this series after armistice day
In modern Turkish, “Baksheesh” (spelled bahşiş) means “tip”
Never knew _this_ usage of the word before.
I did see the term defined as 'beer money' in a WWII set comic book.
Good to see Othias get his own rare Mauser.
I'm looking forward to the South American Mauser episode!
I agree with Mae about the sight.
14:11 Now we know the reason why we can get rid of that damn barrel jacket!
You can indeed wiggle the cocking piece out of place on the 1889. It's actually a pain, at least with mine. Also, it means the cocking pieces aren't interchangeable, sadly.
@Caffeinated Wizard Speaking of unobtainium bs, I have a mossin that is part of a run of seven rifles. Even Izhevsk has no Idea what the hell the damn thing is other than it was part of a run of seven rifles of unknown purpose.
Thanks for clarifying about the posters, I was starting to look at the calendar and guess that's what was happening considering when the t-shirt project popped up... Maybe you can reenact the Christmas Story scene this year instead, kinda like the Christmas card from 2 years ago... Maybe :-)
I like my 89 Belgian carbine as much as Othias likes his Ottoman rifle. I don't have a problem with the stock.
I'm honestly stoked for you guys to get out of WWI. I know it has been a tremendous effort for you guys and the content just keeps improving, but the notion of honestly being able to go from an 1873 Springfield one week to an SVT40 the next is really a neat idea that will keep the interest fresh
27:01 FN had a cool logo back in the day
I congratulate you on this content and I and a lot of the public appreciate what you are doing in this wonderful content that is distinguished from the rest but we have a hard time knowing what is being said and translating the words. I don't believe it, I'll get some sleep tonight after the show......
Just got my T-shirts and Crozier sticker. Very happy ... as happy as Crozier eating a blueberry
Cant wait for those south American vids! At least we got a photo..
The late Ottoman Empire is really a weird entity

I stopped performing CPR on my grandmother to watch this.
Maybe once you’re done with the World War 1 series maybe you can do a series about guns of the Wild West?
Andrew Dalton Ray but they covered most Wild West guns. During there lead up to the Winchester 1895
There's a lot more to the American West than just the Winchester
So many revolvers alone, cap and ball, tip up, break open, swing open, gate loaders... So damn many.
Then there's shotguns. Holy shit, that would be a long series.
I think they are going guns of wwii
Andrew Dalton Ray or Civil War guns.
you guys shouldve gotten mae a fez for this episide.
Good old Ludwig. True to form.
What’s the song from the first shooting section?
That Pink Shirt wins the internet.
Guys, about the unobtainium dies you need, do you know of a Canadian guy who has a YT channel called AvE? He might be able to help with that. He just got himself a 5 axis CNC milling machine and he might be looking for things to do with it.
Once he learns how to program the jeezless thing, I'm sure he'd be happy to fabricoble something for this channel. It'll be amusing too because we can watch him break a few tools while machining due to head crashes. 😄 Oh uncle bumblefuck. We love him.
Yep me three was thinking that too!
I mean, he does subscribe to the channel.
medical device machinist here, let me know if I can help.
How would one go about adding a scope to one of these?
Yes I made it early this time
How much would that ottoman 1890 be worth today as of 2022?
I have that bayonet, with the saw-back
29:20 thanks for the gross snort laugh, Othias 😂
Is the lack of semi-pisto-grip in all of these rifles because it doesn't make sense militarily? Like, it means more stock repairs?
I think it is really because pistol or semi-pistol stocks weren't much of a thing back then, except maybe on very specialized target rifles and some shotguns. From a military standpoint, the straight grip stocks are better for bayonet work, and I imagine that was a real consideration in the 1890's and 1900's. Some people (me included) prefer a straight grip for stand-up, snap shooting situations - shooting grouse and pheasant, for instance. A sort of situation where you pull up, point and shoot, the straight grip just comes to bear snappier. Shooting off a rest or prone and taking fine, precise shots, they aren't as comfortable as a pistol grip, in my opinion.
Semi-pistol grip requires much more wood to produce and is trickier about grain selection. That means straight wrist is less expensive and materials consuming. It's why you see metal pieces on certain guns like the Italian Vetterli or Werndl 73
24:11 LOL Beardy, LOL
Othias, I feel your pain!
Do you have a video about the Király 43M SMG?
Ahh, something to soothe my nerves while I tear my hair out over a semester project with pfsense firewall fuckery...
woohoo new video!
Loewe lived up to his name then? (yes, I know the spelling isn't entirely the same)

Just while I'm thinking about it, when you quote prices, would it be possible to put a few other contemporary examples in there for the sake of comparison? Converting 1890-era Marks into modern currency never really works, but if you've got other figures lying around... :)
