My personal favorite harp is a Marine Band lo F that I’ve had at least 25 years…still plays great. I use my 364 low harps and the low F when I play at church. The first song on my new record starts with a lo F shuffle type thing. Great review man…Patrik Duller sent me and I’m a new subscriber. Great stuff Mal!
@@patrikduller8449 Patrik! I have a Manji that was custom-built and it really sounds great, BUT, my harmonica instructor, Jonah Fox, said that a regular Manji was very leaky and he could not recommend them to anyone. Jonah Fox just did a review of an Arkia Signature harp: ua-cam.com/video/SepQiusUqa4/v-deo.html. They are made in France. I just ordered an Arkia Signature Brodur model for 330 Euros. Supposedly, they are great on bends, overblows, overdraws. I mentioned to Arkia that Jonah Fox did a great review for them, which is why I was buying their harp and that they should send some models to Jonah to review. Arkia agreed and will be contacting Jonah soon. If you wish, I will contact them and mention that you also do reviews and maybe they will send some to you. And the same applies to Monsoon Mal. Would you like me to do that? What do you think? Cheers from the States, Mate!
@@jeemalsoknownasjimhawkins1294 Yeah, would be interessting for sure. Glad you're making progress. Is there a specific thing you're struggling with and I can help you with?😀
Monsoon Mal: I got a Hohner Rocket Low F a few months ago (which was awesome), then I got a Hohner Thunderbird Low Low F right after it. Awesome tones/sounds! There are no side vents on the Rocket, so you really get a low, low sound right out of the box, it is fairly easy to bend, and the lack of side vents really projects the sound out to the audience. What I really like is that the comb has a small ridge around it where the cover plates fit in snugly and my beard does not get caught in it. The price difference between a Hohner Rocket Low F ($85US) and Hohner Thunderbird ($160US) is $75US. Is it worth the difference? Maybe. Hohner should send you all their models so you can review them! Hey, Hohner, if you are watching this, send Monsoon Mal some harps so he can review them! Another great video, my friend! Cheers from the States, Mate. Jeem. P.S. Hohner should send some harps to Patrik Duller, also!
Thanks Jeem. This is my 1st low Rocket, my other low harps are Manji's and Thunderbirds. I find it so cool hearing these low notes from such little instruments !!
@@patrikduller8449 Patrik! I am doing great and I am learning so much from you, Monsoon Mal, and Jonah Fox that I just keep getting better and better every day. I have taken several online courses, but none of them compare to the Jonah Fox online course that he just released, "Blues Harp Success," so for a beginner like me, everything I am learning from all of you takes me another step on my harmonica journey. When are you going to do another LiveStream? I love those! Cheers from the States, Mate! Jeem
I have one of these and like to switch between the F and low F when playing the blues in C. Great review, hope you didn't have to stay up till after midnight to make it. All the best John.
The low tuned harps are always a bit more. Australia has just had a price raise on harps too. Suzuki Manji is probably the cheapest low tuned harp $119 RRP Hohner Thunderbirds are $229 RRP !!
Thanks for the review brother Mal. I'm a long way off from getting an F but as far as the Rocket goes - do you think it would benefit someone who only plays one handed to not have side vents since they can't cup the harp?
I'm not sure ONeill. The covers are a subtle difference in sound, I think the side vented covers sound a touch "rougher" than the sealed covers - it's probably more a personal preference. I tend to prefer side vents - but for a long time side vented covers were only available on Marine Bands, I didn't play Marine Bands so I had closed cover harps. As soon as Manji's were available getting the "vented covers" was a selling point for me. A few customisers have said sealed covers are more stable on overblows, but I get my built with side vents and the notes are very stable.
@Oneill180 I'm eventually doing a Rocket Amp unboxing, and I want to do a comparison of Rocket's SP20's and Lee Oskar's Until then I have this Modern Blues Harmonica post which is just the vented and sealed side cover comparison. It's on facebook facebook.com/groups/ModernBluesHarmonica/permalink/10160000710002225/?sfnsn=mo&ref=share&mibextid=6aamW6
@@MonsoonMal Thanks! I seemed to have notice most of the sound difference when they were cupped also. I also didn't know the vents were to prevent overtones(?) from the outside reeds as someone commented. (sorry I couldn't like, I don't have fb)
Merci !
Thank you 😀
