what do you think of the key of Bb? I found a Seydal Non'Slider in the key of Bb now for a better price.. it seems closer to the human voice with the lower key.. but am new to playing chromatic .. Everyone tells me I have to choose the key of C... - what do you think of playing mostly solo in the key of Bb on a Seydal Non-Slider or in general about playing on one made in the key of Bb? thanks!
For modern jazz a chromatic harmonica would also be a good place to start (the ones with the button on the end) so you have access to the full range of notes straight away. For the future I'd go for either a standard tuning (as opposed to the low tunings) and get into some overbends. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
I would recommend key of C -- it's mid range and I have a type of low C Honer no longer made where it has four extra holes at low end of the harp that are an octave lower which achieves the low harp result at the low end. A fav of mine my audiences also like.
I really want a low E harp (I need it for “Please Please Me”, plus the sound is wonderful) but my goodness! them things ain’t cheap lol. The Seydel 1847 Classic Low is about 100 USD!
Yeah professional harmonicas can be expensive, but at least we aren't guitarists paying hundreds or even thousands for each instrument! I personally think it's all relative. I'm glad you like the sound, keep harping!
@@PaulGillings Yes yr right ,but but I,m addicted to yr train lesson and can,t stop trying ha I,m at moderate speed and trying to get faster.but can do a fair tunnel and whistle. They all seem to be copying yr train now.ha
@@PaulGillings Well its getting worse now.I bought a box of Fender Blues Delux in 7 keys and each key has a plus and a minus and can,t decide which key I like best. All I wanted was a good train sound from yr inspirational video.if I achieve the step up in speed I will be happy and not ask for more (I think) hahaha Thanx Paul yr theee man
After watching you... yeah Im going for the Low F !!! (got the Low C already) ... Thanks Paul !!!

Feel free to share on socials! 😁
I didn't know low harmonicas even existed til tonight. I don't play but I might have to now, these sound awesome 😁
I'm glad you found them! They are a lot of fun, thanks for watching
Ordering 3 of these beautiful bold body lows and a lighhtning in G! Thanks for the review!!
I need a low F but don't know whether to get a bold body or a Lightning. Might wait for someone to do a video comparison.
I love the sound of low key harmonica
Me too! Great harps and suchan awesome sound. Thanks for watching :-)
Excellent demo and explaination, many thanks Paul.
Any tips on how to bend on them please?
Just gotta make a huge cavity inside your mouth. Just like when trying to sing in a low key or create a low vocal sound. I shall do a video! 😎👍
@@PaulGillings Thank you, a video would be very helpful 👏👍✅
Try with a backing track - makes it much easier than just trying it "dry". Great introduction Paul!
I love low tuned harps. I'm not happy enough anymore to play anything that sounds cheerful
Join the club! lol, thanks for watching
Very interesting. Seydel (mine; SSS in G) sounds beautiful and very comfortable. Then I got hold of a DeBell in G. Wow! 👋😎🎵
Are these the new bold body harps?
they've been out a while now, but they are the ones referred to as bold body, yes
Good job
Thanks

Bb is a good mid-range harp, I prefer it to the C in terms of range. Horses for courses as always, enjoy and thanks for watching!
So as a beginner that’s wants to play more jazz modern jazz that is and r&r songs which key would you recommend? Thanks

Paul Butterfield Blues Band introduced me to the harmonica...
Paul Butterfield is a legendary player!
@PaulGillings Before Butterfield, I thought Neil Young and Bob Dylan could play harmonica. I find that kinda funny now.
@@texasredneckhippy it’s great to keep expanding your knowledge and listening to more artists 😎🎶
Which low key would you recommend as a first low-tuned harp. I’m proficient on standard keys, but this has motivated me to try some low keys.

Or select one that matches your vocal range for using with songs in the key you sing best in...
What Tommy says, thanks Tommy! :-)
@@Tommy-mv8cjI have SBS 365 that is setup that way.
I like seydel harps. Are there valves in the low e?
There are indeed

That low A bend sounded like the saxophone in the Pink Panther theme
It did a bit! Thanks for watching!
Do you have high seydel harmonicas?
the highest key Seydel I own is a BmN, which is technically an F#m labelled in 2nd position
You need to be on radio wth your voice.
Very kind of you 😊 thanks for watching 🙏
is this what you hear in Quincy Jones' - 'The Streetbeater' aka the sanford and son theme song
I don't know I'm afraid, I'll have to check that out. Thank you!
Ouf!! That’s a think girl ! I am really a fan of thin ones … harmonica …😅
🤣
Hi .I want to play from Hole 4 in a low tone I find it better for playing tunes
great to start from hole 4 for tunes, it's the start if a full octave with no bends. Thanks for watching and keep harping!
