There are still good games being made these days like Helldivers, Elden Ring, Lies of P, and Baldur's Gate 3. But the quality of most video games has really gone downhill these days.
I was surprised to realize that AAA games coming out sometime around 2019 no longer hook me. Yes, there are still good ones, but they are niche projects, most often made by a group of enthusiasts rather than a large team of professionals. The worlds are faceless, the characters are full of the "right" ideas and attitudes, and the game mechanics at their best just aren't dull. It's sad to reflect on this.
I hope it's just the darkest night before the next dawn of the gaming industry.
They used to be great games, great stories, overall great experiences that redifined gaming as a medium, nowadays we’re lucky if we get a single game that challenges that per year, where before we would have different games all of them challenging the limits in different ways, that made them special. They weren’t carbon copies of each other, there was true variety with each them being a unique flavor… boy I missed those days…
There’s so few games that make me feel fulfilled anymore. Fromsoft games and ghost of Tsushima were probably the last truly enjoyable and memorable experiences I had in gaming and that makes me sad that so many games just aren’t like that anymore

There have always been good games and bad games. Some people claim all games today are bad. That's just ignorant and lazy. This video made me unsub. Really pathetic.
Edit: the most cynical aspect is that some people believe all games today are bad because of woke dei stuff.
It's a video about games past that really shines in emotion and story, when compared to some modern games that are missing that for a wide audience of gamers.

@@lazyvoid7107 I never said all modern games lacked story and emotion. I just said it feels like more and more do.
there are still plenty of good games, especially when we consider single player experiences. I do think it is reasonable to highlight multiplayer gaming, which has certainly taken a hit due to live service and microtransactions. this is made extremely clear with recent hits like lethal company and helldivers because people want better multiplayer experiences. there are other factors too of course, like the severe lack of lorentz drivers.
ultimately, games haven’t really gotten worse. I think we are all just getting a bit burnt out, whether that is from gaming or from real life.
Finally someone with a well-reasoned rebuttal instead of just “hur hur, u stupid nostalgia baiter.”
Hey man don’t listen to the people berating you for calling out the video game industry’s decline; they’re just sheep who will consume any product the AAA industry shoves down their throat. It’s not worth listening to them.
