In the 80's I had one of these, same colors even. Unfortunately it stayed outside and rust was a problem. Great car, beautiful. My parents drove it often and really loved it. Funny situation, the gas guage didn't work and I drove it to a friend's wedding. I was a groomsman and the tuxes were white. I was fortunate enough to escort a bridesmaid home but ran out of gas on the way back to my home. I was quite a sight in a white tux pushing a red Caddy convertible down a major street in St. Louis at about 2:00 am. Nice memory.

Gramps had a 68 Sedan De Ville, dark green with black top and interiior. He had 6 Caddy's over the years, but this was the first and best. Beautiful, powerful, and better on a curvy road than the newer ones. It replaced a white New Yorker than was stolen soon after purchase. Grandma drove it home from the dealer, I was 7 yrs. Got so excited, I pinched my mother hard in her arm. That didn't go over too well. But this dark green beast brought great memories. Gramps took me everywhere around metro NYC in that car, plus some long rides too, both educational and in the father role.
MAGNIFICENT!! This Cadillac is one owner because these were built to last rather than "lease cars", and had a consistent and evolutionary style. These were classics once they ended the production year, if not from the time of job one!

Gotta love these land yachts. A block long and half a block wide, built to cruise all day in total comfort. An era in American automotive history that will never be again.
I owned a 1968 cadillac deville and I liked it better than my 1972 purchased later. The 1972 had too many issues with pollution controls. The '68 handled better and was a joy to drive. Good video.
I was Just thinking the same thing before I got to your comment however I would just do the seats in a new white leather leave the rest black, I saw that with a 67 Lincoln where the interior was all black and just the seats were redone in white it was sharp looking
For those of us born on the tail end of the 1960s, early 1970s, today's generation has NO IDEA on what they missed out on as far as cars go. In those days, when you pulled up at Church, a restaurant, bank, etc. in one of these babies, people stopped what they were doing and looked at you with awe and with envy. It was such a status symbol to own and drive those magnificent cars. Today it would take a Rolls Royce to feel that kind of presence driving a car.
I have the exact same car. To yours. Second owner from original owner had every single option available to be put in. Power/ vacuum everything vent windows. Door looks. Trunk…. tilt and telly AM/FM and vent windows plus optional long trumpet horn A/C criuze control. Twilight sentinel and auto dimming …Etc etc Etc. Beautiful machine. I found mine in 1995 Sitting since 1971. Replaced top in 1998. Still looks like new ….Only one problem u are going to have eventually. Solid lifters ….will dish and you will have a loud ticking The push rods will eventually drop into the oil pan or get bent due to excessive gap. Then u have to do a top end rebuild. Heads will be ok. But intake will have to come off

I LOVE these beautiful Cadillacs from 1967 and 1968. - I would love to buy this car, if its for sale???? - Beautiful car!!! - Absolutely Awesome!!! - Thank you so much Lou, - and thanks to the owner of this beauty !!!!
I had a 67 red de ville convertible with a white interior that I had to clean all the time. It got lots of attention. I wish I had it now. Thanks for the memory!
That clicking Lifter is from a gap but it can't be from wear with just 54k on it. It might be what's called a Pumped-up Lifter where particles in the oil settled inside the Plunger area by the Oil passage hole . The inner Plunger that compresses enough to close the oil hole off and make it solid to push the Pushrod gets stuck by the dirt and debris in the Oil so it can't return back up to align the Holes for oil flow. I can hear the affect in the exhaust sputters and how the Click does go away when the RPM's go up. Some lifters need time to fill up with oil and clsoe up the gaps. With such low mileage I wonder if the owner didn't know to change the Oil by its age since it breaks down like most organic oils . Not worth the labour for just one of the 16 Lifters having to be removed and cleaned out . Maybe a quick Engine Flush at idle could free it up and then do a few oil filter changes at 500 miles might do . That's why I started to place a very strong magnet on the low point of the Oil pan and Oil Filter to attract the metal pieces from wear or the dirt suspended in the oil. Sadly , that 472 cast iron V8 engine might still be wearing in since 54K is nothing to an Engine that can get over 200K if looked after .
I thought the 472/500 c.I had non adjustable rockers on hydraulic lifters. Just like an Olds 350 Rocket V8. It could be a lifter with some trash in it allowing it to not pump up. The old "used car" dealer trick was to pull the trunion off and just lightly hit the bottom of it on the bench grinder and shave a couple of thousands off it and reinstall it allowing the push rod to ever so slightly compress down into the lifter eliminating the tick.
Also lets not forget that conventional oil will separate over time and have acid in the oil. Which even at low mileage, sitting over time once the oil has been heat cycled it will break down sitting in the pan.
One other thing if the clicking is from wear. My 390 FORD with the Rocker Shaft system and the Ball&Socket rocker arm could have the over-sized pushrod bought at the Part Counter if you knew the right Gap. But a stuck lifter from dirt and metal filings might come free as my 390 lifter did ,the odd time , but the Over-Sized Rod would now cause a new problem to bend from stress as far too long or affect the cam and Rocker friction point . I've seen some very clean used cars with normal mileage but once i pull a rocker cover it record the history for abuse by few Oil changes where black sludge coats most of the parts . Clean oil in a used car is much like how a House seller put fresh sod on the lawn and a quick paint job on the Porch. Lipstick on a pig still makes it a pig .
Total class. How could they sell ? The Cadillac DeVille ( of the town ) , had command presence ; power , style , technology . Nothing could touch it ,in the luxury US car field .
The mechanism is called a transducer, for the cruise control. You're welcome. :-) Makes me miss my '68 Fleetwood Brougham. Had front and rear side vent windows that were electrically opened and closed. Power everything. Smooth stereo. Also had foot rests for the rear passengers. Climate control A/C and an Autronic Eye [headlight dimmer], along with twilight sentinel [dark auto lights on]. Also had a little rubber pad over the floor mounted dimmer switch. Nice. Was made an offer I couldn't refuse, so down the road it went. Still regret taking the offer. You present a nice car. Swap the lifters and replace the leading edge of the hood stainless [actually cast[]. I've yet to see a '68 that didn't have a hairlipped front bumper, so that slides.
that's a beautiful example of a Cadillac Deville Convertible my late maternal grandfather had an Eldorado convertible of that year when my mom was young I think it was one of the red firemist metallic colors of the time maybe the rosewood my late maternal grandmother drove a used 79 Coupe Deville Colonial yellow with saddle brown leather interior and its from that car that I fell in love with Cadillacs though the CTS is a bit cramped
I live in the South so where I'm from most Cadillac convertibles of this vintage were ordered with the optional air conditioning or air conditioning with automatic temperature control. I understand that may not have been the case for cars headed to Northern climates.

Not just a side marker light. That is the famous Cadillac cornering light that comes on with the turn signal. Second battery tray was for the limousine models.
Wow. Just wow. What an automobile, and in this original condition - again, wow! My parents owned a '70 Coupe DeVille hardtop, dark red. We made two trips from California to Pennsylvania and back in it. A lot of fond memories.

It's oft mentioned in an off-hand blurb, "land yacht", but any similarity to a floating vessel is a misnomer in this regard, what we have here is a graceful elegance delivered in undulating form. Even the man who drew its gorgeous elevations had little idea his skills were already at their zenith & would never again reach such echelons. The fate of all designers seeking their mark in the automotive Universe. I'll offer money if anyone can see a straight line anywhere on this stunning car, I'll eat my brand new Fedora. It appears one way & delivers something very different to the beholder. A mesmerising car.
Fabulous! You must have used a wide angle lens to fit this whole Caddy into your shots, Lou! This car looks great & it's no surprise it's currently in Bill's hands. Thanks for sharing it!
OH YEAH!! Lou, I would call it “BIG RED!” I’ll take 2 of these, both with dual 4 inch exhaust, one in red, the other in Raven Black! Thanks Lou! 😎👍🏾🥳🥰🌟
Jawdropper- just gorgeous. Grew up lusting after one of these...neighbor's relatives from New York owned a red one and drove it regularly through the 90s. I'd take one of these or back a few years if a '69/70 would be hard to get (they aren't). Gonna get one when I got time to cruise after retiring.
Very handsome Cadillac ! Over the last few years people have taken a new interest in the "big" cars of the "sixties and seventies". I see where the collectors and investors have taken notice and it's driving up the values of these once overlooked cars. Especially the convertibles. The great oil embargo changed everything and the move to "downsize" changed the American automobile industry for ever. Thanks for posting the video!
What a beautiful Caddy, look back at the ignition and there was no key marks around it. That’s a meticulous owner on this one. I would probably adjust the valves but other than that it’s Cherry 🍒! Thank You Lou again for a great video and taking me back when I was a child!!! Awesome 👏!!!!
I had a rusty hardtop for a while. Great car, I wish I still had it. Has a bad ground or bulb in the signaling lights. Cornering lamps only work when the headlights are on.

The lights you are referring to as marker lights are cornering lamps and they were optional on the large GM cars. I believe s they were standard on all Cadillacs. The marker lights were mandatory and added in 1969

By this year was the rear window glass instead of plastic? It looked like this car had a single exhaust. With your quick look at the engine, emphasizing tags, I wasn't able to see if it had A/C. With that black interior it would be a much desired option. Does this car have leather interior and real wood accents? This is a beautiful car. It would be a great cruiser.

I don't believe those were marker lights as I always thought that the required marker lights had a red hue. I believe those were cornering lamps. The were an inexpensive option that were popular on medium and luxury cars beginning in the early 60s and lasting thru the 90s.
hi Lou...u mentioned the quarter panels on the Deville...i owned a 1970 Deville and restoring it was ruff the rear quarter panels are only replaced with quarter panels from another 1970 Deville and not the Coup deVille i found out that the Deville was built on the Fleetwood chasis to accommodate the convertible top compartment when it goes down for storage. its only my opinion but the 1962 1965 (new chasis in '65) and the 1970 were the best designed Deville ever I loved my Deville and apparently someone else loved it too they stole it and i had parked it in front of the police station by Wrigley Field ugh after all that money and time restoring that car
I have NEVER, and probably NEVER WILL understand how a car can stay so beautiful for so many years! Everything we've ever bought looks like absolute hammered dookey after 6 months, regardless of how often it gets washed, waxed, vacuumed, spit-shined, detailed... You name it. I just don't get it. I give up.

Gramps took me everywhere around metro NYC in that car, plus some long rides too, both educational and in the father role.
Hi JGG11, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Gramps cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

"All Aboard!" :-)

I owned a 1968 cadillac deville and I liked it better than my 1972 purchased later. The 1972 had too many issues with pollution controls. The '68 handled better and was a joy to drive. Good video.
Hi Gregory Trane, Thank you for sharing your 1st hand knowledge of the car, and the kind words on the video, Lou
That car is gorgeous, would be even better with a white interior to go with the white roof
Hi Pontiac GrandPrix73, Glad you like the looks of this one, and thanks for your thoughts on the interior top combo, Lou
Hi Chris Allen, Thank you for viewing and sharing your experience in that time frame, and the comparison, Lou
so true, I was born "54" an I remember those beauties, also the duece an a quarter (buick225), olds "98" regency, delta 88, etc. !!!! #MEMORIES

Hi Chuck, Happy to read you enjoy this "Sweet ride" :-) Lou

Hi Ole Andreas Jensen, Happy to read "I LOVE these beautiful Cadillacs from 1967 and 1968" :-) Pretty sure this car already sold. You're welcome, Lou
I had a 67 red de ville convertible with a white interior that I had to clean all the time. It got lots of attention. I wish I had it now. Thanks for the memory!
Hi Christopher Kraft, Thank you for sharing details of your car you had, and you're welcome, Lou
Hi Gary wood, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Cam is probably wiped out as modern oil has no zinc in it and its a flat tappet cam
Total class. How could they sell ? The Cadillac DeVille ( of the town ) , had command presence ; power , style , technology . Nothing could touch it ,in the luxury US car field .
Hi Dante Ardenz, Well said regarding the presence this car delivers to the person behind the wheel :-) Lou

The mechanism is called a transducer, for the cruise control. You're welcome. :-)
Makes me miss my '68 Fleetwood Brougham.

Hi Courtney, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your family's cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I live in the South so where I'm from most Cadillac convertibles of this vintage were ordered with the optional air conditioning or air conditioning with automatic temperature control. I understand that may not have been the case for cars headed to Northern climates.

Hi Alan Smith, Glad you enjoy the design of this Cadillac :-) You're welcome, Lou

They were really not bad for mpg for what it is I got 12 city 16 hwy 18 at 50 mph cruising in a 67 coupe de ville.
I had a rusty hardtop for a while. Great car, I wish I still had it. Has a bad ground or bulb in the signaling lights. Cornering lamps only work when the headlights are on.

I would keep that in the Family, the double stacked headlight Cadillacs are just going to increase like crazy soon.

The lights you are referring to as marker lights are cornering lamps and they were optional on the large GM cars. I believe s they were standard on all Cadillacs. The marker lights were mandatory and added in 1969

Cadillac is making a car in 2020 that is supposed to be pretty long.
@@jenX100 If you wanna buy a car like this i think youre gonna have to fix one up yourself, ive heard there are plenty of parts (although some might be harder to find than others).
