  • Access Health travels to New York City to meet with rheumatologist, Dr. Grace Wright to better understand rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis affects 1.3 million adults in the U.S. Patients with RA may experience pain, aches, morning stiffness, tenderness, and swelling affecting more than one joint in the body. It’s painful and exhausting to have, and it can cause depression and isolation for patients.
RA can cause progressive joint damage and may lead to other health problems as well, especially if left untreated or not treated well enough.
It’s important to not have patients lose hope. There are many options available to manage RA. If you are having joint pain - see your primary care provider and ask for a referral to a rheumatologist for evaluation and diagnosis.

Do you ever just watch a completely mobile person and miss when you could do things? Do they ever think about how lucky they are to just stand up from a chair and walk away, without thinking about it? Without having to be mindful of how to use your body so you don’t fall, so you can minimize pain, or so you can look normal? When I wake up, I instantly feel the pain throughout my body. “Oh, this again” my mind says. What indignities will I face today? I see people older than me walking so carelessly, so strong and free. I never appreciated that when it was me. Now I pay the price.

Hi, Sara. We are so sorry that you are experiencing this. You are 100% correct. Most people take the simple things their bodies can do for granted. Thank you for having the courage to share this story and insight. We are here for you.

I want to cry, my mom has had RA for years but she was never diagnosed so noone took it seriously. Pains have stopped and he's walking strong as before. It's amazing how he has proven wrong the general claim of no cure for R.A. Many thanks to him... contact him on oziegbee2@gmail.com or through whatsaap +1(701)510-4473 and thank me later!!!

    • @Deryasvoice
      @Deryasvoice Рік тому

@@suziecarr1566 Some cases of RA can get to the eyes so it could be because of that. My mother uses methotrexate along with plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine). But one of the medicines cannot be used by those whose RA affects the eyes (which they find out from eye tests) so I believe that may be why they only gave you one of them. Using both of them really helps her and decreases the inflamation of her RA. May I ask how long have you used the medicine? Because for my mother it became effective after using it for a while. Maybe you could ask your doctor about the medicine and whether there are other options

i was diagnosed 6 years ago. I've tried everything. Diet, medications, working out, heat/cold. etc. I'm a 34 year old male with no family history of RA. i'm a motorcycle mechanic and it's hard to keep a job when i have to call out so much or have others help me perform different tasks. Methotrexate makes my hair fall out (when i'm not on medication my hair doesnt fall out or thin at all and i have great hair otherwise) and just makes me feel poisoned every weekend. I see videos and meet older people with advanced RA and how disfigured they've become and can't do much of anything. I'm extremely stressed and worried about my future. it's either live with pain every day and be unable to work, or feel like i'm dying and just stay in bed. It's affected my relationships, my work, my happiness, my mental clarity, on and on. Everything pops and cracks. I can't smoke weed or take pain medication. I'm thinking this is the end.

I hope you've found some young people like yourself with RA who can be supportive for you ... Stay strong, positive and hopeful - I'm sure with time there will be new treatments that can eliminate all symptoms. I've just started drinking pomegranate juice, and not sure if it's just my imagination but I feel a lot better with minimal pain and stiffness. I think the natural remedies help as much as the medications at times. Best of luck and good wishes to you .. never forget you're a warrior!! ❤️

Charlie. So very sorry. Same here but I'm much older. It has ruined my life. Recently I've been changing things in my diet. Recently gave up coffee and cream my most favorite😢 but it seems to help. Each is so different. Try yourself. Give up 1 thing for 2 weeks see if it makes a difference. See if it's worse when you start eating that again. Arnica somewhat helps the pain. Both sublingual and the gel. Have a good journey, a good life and hope for remission for you.

RA is a kind of cancer. Currently, we do not have a good synthetic medicine to treat it. all medicine use for RA contain so serious side effect but not really work to stop the pain. when we do not have medicine for it, we should not stop to looking alternative treatment. like natural products. The natural Canadian products are all licensed with high level medical check before to have a licensed do not see any chinese doctor as the formula of chinese medicine may not meet the safe standard. use a Canadian high standard natural product you will feel better. try to study the product ARTHRON 5. 1 of 100 people have RA today, you are not the only one.

Not just joints. Let's talk about organ involvement. And, let's redefine the term.
It should be called RHEUMATOUD DISEASE bc the term arthritis minimizes it's severity. Lastly, let's talk about the medication tour we have to take with all of the side effects.

Look into adjusting your diet first and foremost. Cut out as much sugar as you can from your diet. Cut out processed foods. Eat a lot more fruits and vegetables. No one likes to hear you should lose weight--but just losing 7 lbs made my pain go away except when I intake too much sugar. Investigate gut health for RA treatment. Studies show that less than 50% of RA patients are happy with their medication treatments. I truly don't believe enough investigation has been done on this disease to have effective drugs. It seems every medication prescribed causes new issues - hair loss, liver issues, stomach issues, etc.

Hi. I have done the same thing. Before you know it, it's normal to take all day and still can't finish because of pain and exhaustion. I've went off and on to doctors for 25 years and I finally realized that no one believed me. It got to the point where I thought I wasn't able to communicate properly! Some doctors would just ignore me. Finally, after all that time, I remembered a doctor that my daughter saw for something and he seemed to stick out, like he listened. I found him, almost 2 hours away and he did a blood test for RA. Haven't gotten to see rheumatologist yet, and am barely functioning. Hopefully, you can find a doctor that will do the blood test. And that you'll be set up with a good rheumatologist. 🙏🙏

@@chasityamore6135 I didn't get to take vaccine so idk. However I contacted Covid within the same time I made the comment above. I have this issue where I can not go into any ac environment, I'll get; weak, low grade fever, and hibernation mode and the blood in my veins feel extra hot ( hot mess I feel super sick) however I could use my fan. And ever since I contacted covid and recover I now CANNOT turn my fan on! I am sick just as if I was in the AC. I am fustrated and hot. I am 22 and I don't know how I'll ever work again when my profession is in the office and being home hot and can't use fan is depressing and I live in Jamaica.
Funny thing too is that when I caught covid ALL my RA symptoms went dormant. I didn't go back on the meds until In the last week of recovery. But I'll advise people to stay on medications when you have covid too

I treated my ra ,anaemia and high platlet count with no drugs .I looked at leaky gut gave up wheat gluten grains meat dairy sugar high carbs processed food refined and any crap food. I ate low carb veg, fish, tumeric black pepper,gluten-free oats with cherry's ,blueberries msm powder and morninga, cherries and blueberries.i only used coconut or goats milk.papaya, strawberry, pineapple, blueberries and goat yoghurt as a sweet u need a treat, I hobbled my skinny muscle less body to a leisure club ,I was too weak too swim.without a float and too scared to leave the shallow end, followed by sauna and jacuzzi.after 3months iswim 4o lengths and 1hour in the gym.my anaemia and platlet count are normal, my rheumatologist doesn't want to see me for 1year.all I have is morning finger stiffness for a few minutes.im now fitter and healthier than before I was ill I'm 68 and can now run.ps it's important to research vitamins and minerals and think I can beat this.good luck with any treatment you take.

i take Methotraxate. for the first 2 years of taking it i took it in pill form and i couldn’t stand it. Now i am on the injection form and it makes me a feel a lot better. Diet and exercise is so so important, the medication itself isn’t going to make you feel 100%. Try to treat your RA ASAP, you don’t want to cause permanent damage.
