    The FIRST time Billy met Paul was in the late 70's when Columbia Records gave a party for Billy in London when he was performing there. Since (at the time) Paul was on Columbia (in the U.S.), he was invited and showed up. Billy said he couldn't speak, all he could do was stammer. Paul laughed and said "I was the same way first time I met Phil Everly!"

    It's such a miracle that we still have a talent like Billy Joel.
    Especially when you see who sat next to him.

    And Christie Brinkley was in attendance both at the last show, and at this "Questionnaire". Good to see "Exes" friendly towards each other.

    You could see your (Billy’s) excitement when Paul came out on stage. Your face was lit.

    I wondered if the band had prepped for playing I saw her standing there. I know they're pros but the timing and arrangement was incredible.

      Paul told billy what song he wanted to do. Billy’s band had all day to talk it over.

    I wonder what would that OG hofner bass that PM played in Shae in the '60 be worth now

      @apexerman1 2 роки тому

      When Paul passes away, that Hofner bass will be quite likely the most valuable instrument in the world.

    The only way to tune a Hofner base is with a butter knife (see instructions).

    How someone can tune his bass with a butterknife? Can someone explain me!?

      Simple. Be Paul McCartney :)

      Usually a bass’s tuning pegs will have a slot in the top sort of like a flathead screw. If your tuning key snaps off or doesn’t work well because it’s old which is likely with Paul’s, it’d probably be possible to turn the machine head with a knife in the slot like a screwdriver turning it without the torque from the key itself and risking snapping it

      I think it’s embellished story or at best not tuning it per se but tightening an errant screw

    I believe Paul said his original Hofner bass was ripped off in the mid-sixties....

    • @patrickrang2076
      @patrickrang2076 8 років тому +7

      Actually his original Hamburg Cavern bass was ripped off during the Let it Be sessions..the one played with Billy Joel was the one he used during the Ed Sullivan shows and the Shea Stadium concert in 65.

      Patrick Rang- Then Paul has had his original Hofner for more than 50 years. I believe it has paid for itself a few times over.....

      Johnny Botts Paul actually had 2 Hoffners. You are right, one was stolen

    • @lynnturman8157
      @lynnturman8157 7 років тому +1

      And why was he tuning it with a butter knife? Did it not have tuning pegs or what?

      Hafner Bass? 🙄 You'd think a guy who's played music his entire life (piano player or not) would know what the bass is called: Hofner or getting real specific, Höfner. The tuning with a butter knife line is complete horseshit. McCartney has played that bass (His second Hofner, a 1962 with pickups in the neck & bridge positions; his first Hofner was stolen from Twickenham Studios during the Let It Be rehearsals, it has pickups in the neck & middle positions) since the 1989 World Tour with Mandolin Bros in NY doing a complete overhaul to keep it intonated & in tune. Those rugby tuners on his bass are extremely efficient and no one would ever screw with it with a butter knife of all things.
