I never understood the idea of martial artist learning how to fight another martial artist?or all these silly moves that would never work,I think modern day karate mixed with boxing and jiu jitsu and sum Muay Thai would fit the hood more, all these traditional Shi needs to go,bc almost nobody will attack u like that, that’s one of reasons why blacks LEFT karate and Kung was bc it didn’t work that well, your art must be pressured tested against real life attacks in order for it work.I’m afraid these martial artist in the video or to made for sport, not street application, time to bring the truth to our black youth.not nonsense that dosnt work and that would get us even more killed
Thank you for taking the time to watch and respond. Now, to your points; when I watch something historic (old) I try not to make the mistake of takin’ it out of its historical context. Most of the footage used in the clip is old; some as much as 60 years old. Back then, most brothers that were training martial arts were practicing what they had learned from the Asians (good for them), and some of them became very good at what they’d learned, but the GREAT ONES (as Sijo Muhammad once told me) were the ones that took what they had learned and began change it in ways that made fit themselves and their realities (the streets). But I agree with you on some of what you’ve said; martial arts is about making sure you get home tonight and is not (in it’s nature) a sport. But I don’t like to say that another man’s art is ‘shit’, or ‘silly’ or that it ‘will never work’ because -to do that- is to discount the thousands of people (many of whom are Black) that have used what they learnt from Karate or Kung Fu (or from whatever) to save their own ass, and whatever it is that a man uses to save his ass is sacred (to that man), so I choose not to disrespect (or discount) it. I am not one for traditional/Asian martial arts myself but I have known too many Black men that were able to take that ‘traditional shit’ and become deadly with it, and to be clear, I don’t mean deadly on the mat, I mean deadly on the street and in the prisons. I’ve seen it (and I’ve seen them) all my life. So I find it hard to speak on what works (or what doesn’t work) for somebody else and I find it even harder to tell someone else that what has worked for him does not work at all. “Everyman is his own style” and whatever it is that gets you through the fire is your martial art, I don’t care how you do it or where you got it from, cause if it works for you, then who am I to tell you that you shouldn’t be doing what you do. I mean, there are men -that some would say- don’t know anything and have never been in anybody’s gym or trained in anybody’s dojo, but they work with what they have and what they have is enough to beat back the wolves (the wolves in the street as well as the wolves behind the wall). You mentioned a few arts that you think ‘would fit the hood more’, and all of those arts are cool, but the problem with those arts (as far as your position is concerned) is that those arts all have rules, and in ‘the hood’ there are none. So, like the Ninjas in Japan, we take from what we have and we create from what we don’t in order to come up with what we need. Whatever we (as Black men) get from this life becomes a part of the soup (culture), and we all get the chance to feed from it. So just take what you want, get what you need from it brother ….but don’t kick the pot that has fed so many. Peace and thanks again for your feedback.
@@thinmannventures thanks bro appreciate this a lot,so basically wat your saying is I can’t say let’s say for example….wing chun dosnt work bc there always some one out there with a different mind from the original creator??always someone out there that can make it work?
@@AyeJordan7 Yeah Brother, not only will there be someone that can make it work, there are also elements in it that do (and will) work. Even a lie; in order to tell a good lie there has to be enough truth in it to catch a person's attention. So there is something in all the arts; otherwise so many people -over so many years- wouldn't have spent so much time learning them. Like everything, it depends on what's in you, and that will determine what you do with whatever is in front of you. This is why you have those persons that seem to have nothing, but because of how they are made, they still find a way to make something out of nothing. We been doin' that since the beginning of time.
@@Withlovejim I own a small town martial arts gym in Augusta GA,Downtown, its called pit bull martial arts broI have plenty of martial artist from New York come in that were taught by Moses Powel yet they couldn’t even handle the ppl that didn’t even know martial arts,in order to a effective martial artist your art must train strength training, cardio, indurence, and line it’s principals up with reality, sparring, not make up a punch of”self defense “techniques that would never work, when all u need is basic grappling and basic striking.Any art can work, but u must line it up with reality’s of fighting.I have no doubt these New York masters we’re great but sum of there students that came down here were not as good im afraid.
