Everything about this lens is deceiving! (In a good way)

- I was completely shocked with every aspect of this lens. From its size and weight to the quality optics, this was a very pleasant surprise. I highly recommend the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.8 Lens

As always, John, your "real life review" was exactly what the gear heads should be focused on - quality images that satisfy either the client and/or yourself. And the model is incredibly beautiful and natural. Thanks!
She does make me look good 😂
What a great lens and a fabulous series of images. Your model is gorgeous. I really liked the close up portraits, especially the one at 2:19 - outstanding!
She is stunning and a blast to work with. And thank you very much.
Lens, model, etc is just wonderful ❤
She does make me look good. 😂😂
Love the one light setup, so simple but very flattering.
I do love one light setups!
Beautiful images!
Thank you.
You always have so much fun! You have my dream job! ❤😂
I really love what I do.
This model is beautiful!!! I hope you shoot with her again soon. Wow! Thanks for sharing...Peace
She is great to work with
Great shots- looks like a great lens. Love the shoot and comentry style of presentation. Her skin looks really good / flawless John...what are you doing in post production?
Phenomenal images! I really appreciate your presentation style... video with voice over showing the shoot with resulting images is incredibly helpful for me since I don't shoot portraits. Knowing you shoot predominantly manual, I'd love to know what the settings were.
The 75 mm is a fantastic lens and perhaps one of the best of any manufacturer . The Sigma 60mm2.8 is the poor man’s alternative and is priceless for MFT portraits.
Wow, I literally bought this lens "used" for a great price. Can't wait to receive it in a few days ! Thanks for a great video ✌🏼
I bought this one used as well, it is so worth it
Gorgeously good images John and great compositions. I especially love the tall grass image. Call me an old fashioned, but I’m wondering if I really would want portrait images of ladies this sharp!! I think I would want a softer perhaps slightly more angelic effect. I think it would be perfect for hard edged subjects eg diamond ring close-ups or monochrome portraits of wizen-faced old men! No offence meant here John, it’s horses for courses; you can’t please everyone! Thanks for explaining that crop sensor lenses don’t compress by their crop factor. I suppose I should have worked this out for myself since it’s the same as a digital crop on a FF sensor. Thanks for the video I really enjoyed it. Keep ‘em coming.
Absolutely no offense taken. Completely understand where you are coming from.
Cool videos always , of topic what's the brand of your scrim jim ?
I believe it’s at Adorama’s brand
@@kaskoPhoto Thanks
Rumor is Sigma made that lens for Olympus. I remember reading about it I think on M43 rumors and Sigma owns the copyright pattern on it.
Well whoever made it- wow.
Beautiful work and review. This is the first two lenses I got when I moved to MFT 6 years ago. I am curious whether you are using Auto WB or customized it with the OM1.2. Glad someone doing portraits, event type of shooting as talented as you decided to give MFT a try.
I was using auto - really wanted to see how it did. I’m impressed.
Great video. She is gorgeous!
She has that face!
@@kaskoPhoto agreed!
I am usually not an "Um, actually ..." guy, but I have to nitpick about your idea that the 75 mm "has a 75 mm compression". Compression is not dependent on the focal length but on the distance. And you would need to use the same distance with a 150 mm lens on a FF camera as with the 75 mm on the OM-1. So ... what are you saying exactly? Could you demonstrate the difference you are seeing?
Another thing, regarding 4:17: It is an open secret that this lens is patented and manufactured by Sigma. Which explains the great performance.
Anyway - thanks for taking us along in the shoot. The stunning results und your verdict definitely renewed my interest. Especially in the silver version.
Thank you for sharing, I appreciate the information.
I was literally just thinking the same thing about compression and then I read your comment.
Ooooow I bought the silver version of this lens (used) for my E-PL8 and agree, it is one fine lens!
I intended to sell the camera and lenses (I’m not into mft) but this lens makes me reconsider. In fact, now I consider replacing the camera with a better model 😄
Well, I can honestly tell you that the OM System OM1 is worth a look
Agree, absolutely gem that lens
It really is a gym, there is absolutely nothing. I don’t like about this lens.
I'm coming from the M11 Monochrome.
As a (mostly) street shooter, with everything in front of me happening so quickly, I find that my composition suffers if I concentrate on getting the moment. If I try to compose properly, I miss the moment. This happens because focusing is done with the rangefinder, which is terrible for composing. n the end, it becomes distracting.
Anyway, it happens often enough that the M43 universe is slowly pulling me in, and I'm starting to invest in more and more lenses for it.
Great video, your enthusiasm for the new lightweight camera is clearly evident!
I really do love this system.
Smashing eye candy is the result, whatever is happening, IMO. If you already have the system, for whatever reason, that lens looks like a gem.
She does catch an eye or two. It is a great lens
Beautiful, stunning.
Now I am curious what you would think of the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 APS-C
Which again would have that 75mm compression, albeit with 1.5x instead of 2x crop factor.
The Viltrox comes in various mounts, mine is Fujifilm X mount.
Again, just curious, because this is a relatively affordable yet impressive lens you might like.
That Olympus 75mm lens is a system seller!
…but the model is beautiful and the camera rendition is excellent.
I tried the 75 1.2 on a friends Fuji camera and thought it was really nice. Very manageable focal length with the 1.5 crop factor
I got this lens recently but I use it on a GH5 for photos and I agree that it has a great balance of compression and focal length for the MFT system. It's sharp and has good colors. And I got it on sale so overall I am very happy with it. I also got the Rokinon 135mm f2 at the same time and wow is that a sharp lens! Two high value lenses for sure.
Thank you for the Rokinon 135 tip. I may need to try it
You were so far away from the model John, that wouldn't work for me. However, I'm glad you are happy, that's all that matters.
You are def a good distance away. But I can see this lens being used for many situations where that would not be an issue. Otherwise I will be on the 50mm as usual.
There you go again! I miss my OM and the 75mm!!!
Seriously- this is one hell of a setup. That lens is ridiculous
@@kaskoPhoto My mainstay lenses at that time were the 12-40 f2.8, the 45mm f1.8 and 75mm f1.8. I have tried to duplicate that setup many times in the past but no avail. The big issues were either price or size... the OM system just can't be beat.
Great shoot! 75mm is typically considered a "specialty" lens on m4/3. But because it is so sharp and bright it is actually pretty versatile. Do you use the face/subject detection?
I do use that on this camera, it’s amazing
@@kaskoPhotoyes it is. I recently acquired the OM1 MII and love it for portraits. It just nails focus on the face and eyes. No having to think about it. No focus and recompose.
I want that 75mm. I have the Sigma 56/1.4 for my Lumix cameras and it is also phenomenal for portraits.
I would like to try that sigma someday soon.
My absolute favourite is the 45 F1.8. A lens so small and cheap has no right to be so good, ie: outperforming leses at 5 times its retail price.
I am not listening to you 😂
Agree! Such a bargain for what it is! It was my main lens when shooting m43 for a long time.
Agreed. The 45/1.8 is a spectacular lens. If I didn’t have the 45/1.2, I’d for sure use it all day long and twice on Sunday. The only real downside to that lens is it’s another plastic fantastic. Similarly to canon’s nifty fifty.
@@joshuagutierrez8407 It is for sure made of plastic, but it feels solid. Also, I feel that it suits the ethos of the MFT cameras more so than Olympus Pro lenses which although are absolutely top class in performance and construction, are rather large and heavy for the size of the camera. I just love carrying my EM5 MKII and the 17mm F1.8. There is some real synegry about this combination, very much like a Leica M6 and the 35 F2 Summicron.
How far back did you have to stand? Might be great for outdoor shoots but in studio?
As I showed in the studio shots at the end, I have a small studio but was able to get 3/4 shots with the lens.
Always a Treat to watch You, n See what You Get :) :) :)
Lens is in my bag:-))
Well get it out of your bag and on your camera 😂😂 But seriously, this is pocket sized 150mm which is still mind boggling to me
@@kaskoPhoto Just something to think about…Olympus, during their 4/3rd’s hey day, has some absolutely spectacular glass that can be adapted to micro four-thirds. Look up their 35-100/F2 or their 14-35/F2. Now, you want to talk about fantastic and earth shattering lenses…that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
I know this is a digital lens , but wondering if it covers a full frame 24x35mm sensor? This lens seems to possess every quality that gets people excited about a non-zooming prime lens. Also focus seemed spot on shot after shot. Model must have been Helen of Troy in her past life.
I don’t believe this would cover a full frame sensor.
Telephoto lenses do not compress places. What compression are you talcing about?
My mistake. No arguments here
The look looks like the G Master 70-200 2.8 II. Outdoor. Something about the layout of the lens/elements must be the same.
It really does render beautifully
My friends who shoot sigma art glass on their Nikons will even point out that the rendering, of the 75/1.8, is nearly identical to their images. Lo and behold, it’s a sigma design as is the 25/1.8.
It doesn't hold a candle to the massive subject isolation and stunning resolution I get with my Nikon 105 F1.4 (on my D810)... but for the munchkin sensor in that Olympus... it ain't too bad
I know you really like the lens, but with the exception of a couple of outdoor images they all seemed kind of soft to me. I'm not sure if it's just the processing, etc. But I didn't see the sharpness you talked about throughout the video.
It’s sharp - I have a little experience with lenses
