Your Dad gets it, cuz, that's how it's done! I did the same thing in helping raise my Niece. Thing is, by not talking about or sheltering your kids from the "bad things" of the world you ill-equip them for how to properly identify and deal with those things.
A good story teller is like a great author: you get into this intense "zone" with the speaker, it's hypnotic, euphoric even. Larry gets us there! Larry, time you made a real movie, TV series even.

Any time I've heard about being in "the hole" I pictured solitary confinement. Being constrained for most of that time in a small cell all by yourself, maybe a tiny up high barred window to the outside and one on your door for feeding, taken to get a shower maybe once a day and that's it. Never pictured it being shared with another inmate, showering with other inmates, etc. Being an introvert, I always thought the hole was exactly where I'd want to be if I ever got sent to prison. Maybe not...
Very few people are actually introverts. Most of them may not like group events or parties or clubs. However, they do interact with people online, some will even come to social events, and typically would like some interactions regularly. The hole is 0 interaction. No Reddit, discord or anything.

I consider myself very much an introvert, I am absolutely fine without human interaction by any means for an extended period of time. However, my girlfriend has me beat by a long shot! She makes me look like an extrovert! When I say she wants no dealings with other people, she wants NONE, EVER! If everyone disappeared she’d be happier off, 10-fold. I can’t go as far as saying all that about myself. But I most certainly am not an extrovert. I get energized from spending time alone and get drained very quickly spending time with others.

I have an unbelievable amount of respect for you Larry. You've been an inspiration for me to better myself. I was doing alot of stupid things before I found out your channel. Maybe it was small stuff but who knows what it could have turned into. Your videos gave me perspective and made me better myself. Can't wait for the future of your channel Larry. I was usually in a cell on my own for the 9 months I was incarcerated, but I also had a few cell mates come and go until I requested to be alone because I can't stand other people being dirty and stinking, coming off drugs and shitting themselves. Or just being annoying as hell. But even if I was alone, I would always keep flushing the toilet until I was sure I was done taking a number 2. One flush is never good enough to cover the smell. so my advise is to just flush constantly until you're done. I kept my cell spotless and I would wash my clothes in my sink with great smelling shampoo to make myself and my cell smell amazing. When they wash your clothes in the jail washer and dryer, they come out stinking and not even clean.
After WW2 Germany became one of the most open countries in the sense that it gives a ton of leeway for everything pretty much there’s a ton of freedom and liberty and the government helps a ton of refugees and everyone pretty much
German prisons may be pretty cool, but those in Norway are even better. I heard Breivik (mass murderer) even though he lives in what looks like a nice contryside hotel, still sued Norwegian government for feeling isolated with not enough human contact, he also complained about getting cold coffee, old game console model, and poor views out the window. Crazy shit, right ?
It’s part of a larger unfortunate theme. Most criminals are just very damaged people. Some countries recognize this and focus on rehabilitating them. In America, we already have so little regard for people that even law abiding citizens are considered disposable if they’re not “useful”. Run afoul of the law, and you’re basically perceived as garbage, and treated accordingly.

Larry, I appreciate you talking about the hole. I spent 49 days straight in addition to my sentence (doesn't seem like much) in the hole at Wayne Brown in Nevada County. Lights on 24/7, no check ins, food was even worse than state, no cell mates, no books, etc. You can go crazy with that. People don't realize it though. I saw a guy jump face first off the top tier during his shower time. He broke his skull. The orderlies had to mop it up. This is NOT how a jail/prison should be run. That county is so corrupt. Just like most of the others.

My brother took going to jail really badly. He refused all offers of food and drink, spat and swore at anyone who came near him, and smeared the walls with his own feces. After that, we never played Monopoly with him again.
Hey Larry, I've been watching your videos for a while and I've been really enjoying them. There's this map in a game about zombies called "mob of the dead" where 4 mobsters are sent to alcatraz to serve death sentences but they end up in a endless cycle in a hellish version of the prison where they keep dying and coming back to life. I believe my Uncle spent over a year in the hole back when he was in prison and he was in prison from the time I was maybe 1 years old to 14 years old and he told me stories about it through letters and in person when he got out and it sounded very awful even to me, and I definitely realized I didn't want to go to prison from a young age. Then I discovered Larry and that only made me even more interested in the topic, and seeing how it actually is and also making me way more interested in not getting arrested lol
Just came across your content recently, Larry. I’m no fan of criminal behaviour but I’m also no fan of the state essentially torturing people in order to gain compliance and behaviour modification. I’m sorry that was your experience and I wish you all the best.
You, Sir, had some rough time in your life, which I didn't experience myself and I don't wish it on anyone (but I can understand why serial killers and people, who harm children are being incarcerated). Whatching your videos I learned that life can get tough and stay tough for a period of time, but it will get better evetually. Your commitment to your family, your friends, your goal to make things better nationwide and your ability to stay honest and thruthful inspires me to be a better person, to appreciate my rights and stand up to them. You, Sir, had some rough time in your life, which I didn't experience myself and I don't wish it on anyone (but I can understand why serial killers and people, who harm children are being incarcerated).
