@@breakingames7772 Nope they don't care, they prefer the prisoners drugged up. We had huge issues in my country where an entire state's prison network couldn't get enough Methadone.
An investigation revealed that guards and doctors working in the prison's falsified records to give inmates way higher then recommended doses, so they were drowsy it also made it hard for them to sleep so prisoners were constantly exhausted.
An insider revealed that they would give out the methadone early in the morning so that it's delayed reaction would kick in the middle of the day. He described the yard as walking in a field of zombies.

Spent 14 years in Missouri max joints. I made a vow to fight for better healthcare for inmates due to some things I witnessed inside. After I got out though, life happened and I forgot the vow I made myself. Today I’m a respected member of my community, own businesses and homes. Seeing your videos made me remember what I need to do. Would love to get connected with ways to reform prisons. I never stole or fought or bothered anyone except where drugs were involved. I had a good upbringing, great folks and was pretty well rounded growing up. I just got hooked on dope and got myself in some fights that got charged as assaults, got caught with dope and then robbed a store. Once I got clean I started a family and my son made it very easy to focus on positive stuff. I couldn’t let him down. It seems like I did an amazing thing and in ways kicking dope is but in all reality all I did was grow up and finally admit I couldn’t handle drugs. Anyways thanks for asking snd recognizing.

Watched quite a few of your videos. I'm a retired LEO. Spent 2/3 of my career doing investigations - child molest, rapes and murders. But I started as a deputy working a county jail for two years. This video could not be more right on the money. There are always good and bad people, inmates or cops. I followed the very old adages - hate the sin not the sinner. Treat everyone with respect. Be very careful around those guys, especially if you don't know them. Anyway, I truly appreciate your perspective and your ability to share your story in a very balanced way. You do tell it like it is - whether some folks can handle or not, that's their tough shit. You're speaking wisdom unfortunately for you learned the hard way. Stay safe. Stay free.

I’ve been in a few jails and prison, and yeah it sucks and the whole system needs to be reformed, at the same time I can think of only a handful of people that were genuinely good people. The vast majority of them are people you wouldn’t trust to be near your family, and they deserve the absolute bare minimum. I’ve also met plenty of them that didn’t even deserve the .31 cent meals they were given.

Hey Larry! I'm from Australia, been watching your videos and it is quite shocking the conditions in US prisons, deprivation of liberty is the punishment, pretty much everything else you have described is torture. You must be one of the lucky few who actually managed to reform in such places, which is a credit to you and not the justice system that seemingly worked against you for all those years. Well done mate! I hope you achieve change in the system, only one part of which is punishment, the focus should be reform.

That's pretty much the standard belief, but ignore who deserves it or not, government just shouldn't have that power. It's so much simpler to just know your government isn't torturing, and murdering people. Nobody trusts government, why let them make those decisions? Constantly reading about innocent getting done wrong, got miles of rows of inmates suffering because they tried to self medicate. If you want your government to torture people, draft a bill approving waterboarding or something, don't just let them run prisons like their own little experiments.

Our prison system is so messed up. And I will never see the inside of a jail cell or anything I just stumbled across this channel. But I’m all for prison reform and guys and gals getting the best they can. I remember watching on TV segment about this one gentleman who got out of prison.
He had been in since like the 1960s or something crazy like that. He had no idea what escalators were, he had no idea what a sliding glass door was if you walked into like a Walmart. Not a cell phone not anything. And it broke my heart I was crying for the guy. Because he’s an old man now and just wants help. Thankfully, this family took him in and was taking care of him properly. Now that, warmed my heart.
You made a comment, that inmates are treated worse than animals. As a blind person with a seeing eye dog, you are right on that. My dog is so well taken care of. She sleeps beside me on her bed on the floor. And everywhere we go she is loved and adored.

The commissioner in the video has the right idea. When I talk to folks in casual conversation and plead my case on prison reform the argument that usually gets them is "most of the folks in prison are getting out, they could be your neighbor, at your workplace, or pass you on the street. When you meet up face to face with that ex-con wouldn't you rather have had them serve in a prison focused on rehabilitation and making better people rather than punishment that turns them more desperate, hopeless and bitter?"

At (15:58) you mention a thirty year sentence for a drug offence. This is insane laws like this belong in the Salem Witch panic.
I was recently called up for jury service. The defendant was on trial for drug offences ("possession of more than two grams of controlled substance").
I approached His Honour and told him I would not be able to serve on such a case -- in short I would return a "not guilty" verdict.
The judge kicked me out there and then, warning me I could be in contempt. I will NEVER take away somebody''s freedom for what is a mental health issue, period.

A lot of your points make sense. What we are doing is not rehabilitating anyone. What is working is these people are warehoused which keeps the rest of society safe from them. Yeah, someday they are getting out again. So the only way left to keep society safe is to warehouse them even longer. This does not make our world a better place, but it helps it to be a safer place for those who choose not to be criminals. So, if we need an alternative to what we have now, what IS that alternative? This is the question I never see addressed.

Hi Larry I'm a new sub I just watched all your videos God bless you for helping people to turn their life around all day today I watched all the old and new riders documentary. I understand they wanna close riders down is there anyway you can talk to commission in newyork to show them ways they can make rikers better for it not too close. So many things go thru my mind how they can make it better .I wish they can put a school in there a wood shop some kind of job like to give them something to strive for and they should give them a window in their cell so the can see a view outside more bigger change the toilets and beds give them books inside each cell and let them come outside their cell more to be outside to not keep them locked up all the time .I believe they wouldn't be so angry if they made it more better for them .🙏🙏💯

I saw that documentary and it's very sad what happens to the inmate at rhe end (role model). He really goes downhill. I forget exactly what he got caught up in but It broke me up. A guy doing so well for himself and being such a role model that he was to other inmates just goes to show you how things can change at the flip of a switch.

I cant believe the how different Australian Prisons are to US- cant speak for every prison over here obviously but compared to how US inmates are not only housed by treated by screws ( what we call COs ) is worlds apart-

Good video. Also, if everyone were mandated/drafted to work in a maximum security prison for not a year, but 1 week, correctional officers would receive the respect and pay they deserve.

The toilet complaint isn't a good one because if you ever worked construction you know that prison toilet is way cleaner than any Johnny blue on a construction site

There is someone in my family that was a prison guard and quit because he didn’t want to see the other guards torture the inmates and it pissed him off that they do that

Some of these criminals in Rikers have it easy as compared to my father that weighed 90lbs when released as a POW from starvation as well as the brutal punishment.

I get a “time out” is needed for problem inmates, but abusing them with long term solitary is inmate abuse.
I also like that older inmates are ones trying to mentor younger ones to NOT COME BACK.
