Thanks a lot Dave, saved me a trip to the boat repair shop. I ended up putting a little over a half a quart and bled it up through the helm. Steering is like new now. The Marvels went up a little since your video, now its $8 and change.Still a bargin 👍
No intention of disputing Marvel Mystery Oil or the various grades of commercial hydraulic oil as far as which is better for boat steering, I can personally attest to this formula: 3 parts ATF , 1 part #2 diesel. I have used this in two commercial fishing boats with NO seal leakage in 20 years.
Captain Dave I’m sorry for all the haters, I’ve been using MMO since 1992 I run several boats year round doing commercial diving and this stuff is amazing, I get 6-8 seasons before changing seals and one boat went 16 years. Don’t listen to the dildos talking smack. Let them spend the money they don’t have. You are a good dude keep it coming. Take care.
Yeah but Wallys world is on every street corner in America so that was the whole point. dont be like the many, and comment just for the sake of it. I know what the deal is.
Thanks for your tips, Capt Dave. I've used ATF instead of the Sea Star fluid in my boat on the Chesapeake Bay since I retired and living on a fixed income. I'll try the Marvel Mystery since it cheaper yet. It tickles me to read some of the comments below where guys comment with their "theoretical" learning opposing your practical experience.
It's Marvel Mystery Oil, not "Marvel's". I used to go by their facility in Portchester, NY on the '60s-'70s. It was right across the street from a gigantic Life Savers candy factory. Lots of smells! Thanks for your secrets.

You said you don't know how many helm pumps at the tiller you have changed out and how the steering ram seals (glandular wipers) you have replaced on many boats. Have you ever considered that 'Marvel Mystery Oil' is maybe eroding or degrading the rubber components in your steering?
How many years do you get on your seals before they start leaking? With sea star fluid we usually get anywhere between 6 to 7 years before they start leaking. Just curious if MMO gives the seals premature wear or if its about the same.
Good video . I am actually looking at two of the same boats with 115 mercury 4s. The only difference is that one bas Non feedback steering and the other has hydraulic steering. Would the hydraulic steering be the better option?
The coast guard recommends using sea star hydraulic fluid because it isn’t flammable. If your on a charter boat they catch you using atf fluid or something flammable they’ll probably ground you. Sucks it’s 30 bucks a quart but better to be safe then sorry.
Every seals or hoses has its own requirements of chemical it might be safe for seals .hoses or other parts but i would check in to it first before using it. Unless you are willing to pay the price of getting cheap. If you own a boat you better be prepare for right maintenance and expenses. Just saying .
Stainless steel tubs in contact with aluminum boats used in salt water....... now this is a combination for all kinds of dissimuler metal corrosion. Not the best idea
