    These instructions were super helpful.
Drain and flush as shown. You will lose all steering control.
    Close both valves.
Purchase hose and connect bottle at steering wheel; cut breather hole to bottle. Do not allow bubbles from bottle to ever go down tube.
Open valve on RIGHT side of boat w/ tube to catch waste; slowly crank steering wheel TO THE LEFT until a solid stream comes out the valve with no air bubbles. Close right side valve.
Repeat above on left side valve open, this time turning to the right (opposites).
Turn steering back and forth to release air bubbles up tube at steering wheel until no air comes out. Remove tube at quick disconnect at steering. Replace plug on steering wheel area.
If filled correct the steering wheel will hit hard stops when fully cranked each direction with no lumpiness.
For a pontoon it took 1 liter to flush and 1 liter to fill.
They say not to mix brands or different fluid types.

So when you remove the fitting and hoses from the steering station to put the cap back on a little air will now be in their when you put the cap on, this is ok?

Thanks for the video! I have air in my lines, do I need to bleed the cylinder or can I just add fluid and pull the air from the steering column?

A mechanic that I know that has been around a long time swears by automatic transmission fluid in the Seastar pumps. He claims that the Seastar brand hydraulic oil will make the pump valves stick. He claims he’s fixed a few of them and he put an automatic transmission fluid in them and never has an issue with them again.🤷‍♂️

how do you bleed a hydraulic tie bar?

  • @eagleclaw1988

Im currently doing this I’ve had very stiff steering so I bleed the system completely out .. The fluid looked like coffee milky brown and watery , I have no leaks visible that I can notice checked all seals .
So even with no fluid in the system when I go to manually push the motor from side to side it’s still hard as hell.
I went ahead and filled the helm with all new fluid yet nothing has changed any ideas ? Maybe the pivot point is shot ir just time for a new sea star.

@@PeedPeeBody eventually figured it out about 2 months ago, yes Grease and more grease..
Ended up buying a torch heating the shaft up until all the old grease melted out and pumped it full of fresh grease good as new!!

@eagleclaw1988 That is a good idea, I did not think of heating it up to make it easier as I bent the grease gun trying to push it all through. I shall remember..

    • @eagleclaw1988

@@PeedPeeBody yes works great just have to be careful with the paint. I have an electric grease gun . I would heat the shaft while having the gun hooked up to the Zerk and push out all the old GOOK.
While hot took like 2 tubes because I didn’t want to pump new grease that’s hot, so I waited for it to cool before doing the final grease.

The seaStar fluid is expensive it’s aviation grade fluid that’s why they use ATF
