@@randumo24 Ninety percent of the fandom seem to think she's an unbeatable god, so no I definitely do not think she's "stronger than people give her credit for." She's exactly the opposite of that. She's powerful - enough that M&K have mentioned that Roman, who was probably on part with a first-or-second-year student, was holding her back, which probably puts her somewhere between there and just shy of a veteran Huntsman.

Ever since Ironwood broke it's believed that his semblance Mettle basically took over. It basically makes him able to do everything he thinks is best, and any doubts get discarded, and that combined with his huge fear of Salem is not a good combo. Another thing to think about is when your aura runs out, your semblance stops working. Clover's aura got destroyed, Qrow's was still active, meaning Qrow's semblance kicked in immediately. Clover ran out of luck.

One thing I'm happy about is that we got to actually see Ruby's trauma (the loss of her mother at such a young age) surfacing here. It gives me real hope for future character development for her.
RIP Clover, but he kinda dug his own grave, going after Qrow instead of Tyrian. It highlights one of the biggest weaknesses of strict hierarchical systems, imo. Because only the guy at the very top is making the big ass hard decisions, his underlings only following orders sometimes suck at making decisions in the heat of the moment. It was clear to Qrow, that Tyrian was the bigger threat. After all, Clover and Qrow only wanted to knock out the other one, while Tyrian was going for the kill. Clover completely fucked up his threat assessment here and it got him killed. :/

We've done it, we're one volume away from being completely caught up with RWBY! Before anything else, I just wanna say that this was absolutely insane. Not just the last four chapters, but this whole video. 24 HOURS OF EDITING?! You are a real trooper, gh0xt!! The edits and everything were all fantastic, big props to you dude!! Definitely well worth the wait!!! Now, onto the show... This is why Volume 7 is a fan favorite bro. I mean, do I even need to explain? Not really, this vid says it all.
The Watts vs Ironwood fight is most definitely one of the best fights in all of RWBY, without a doubt! Also, THE MUSIC?!?! Caleb Hyles always delivers, this song is going to blow your mind when the livestream happens, it's sooo good! The 3v1 with Tyrian up against Qrow, Clover AND Robyn, you would think he would retreat, right? Nah fam, this absolute mad lad went for it and he stood his ground! Sure, he lost but man he put up a good fight!
Then, of course, Salem talking with RWBY and company... Summer is the most mysterious character in this show, like really, we NEED more info!! When Salem brought her up, then showing her at her grave with dark clouds with that "nails on a chalkboard" gave me literal chills when I first saw that scene, absolutely terrifying if you ask me! RWBY vs the Ace Ops was so cool, one of my personal favorites!! Again, I gotta mention the music!! Not sure if you noticed while editing this vid, but this song has FOUR DIFFERENT SINGERS!!! Casey Lee Williams (of course lol), Adrienne Cowan (who was the second singer in Nevermore from the Volume 6 OST), Dawn M. Bennett (who is the voice actress for Elm) and Erin Reilly!!
Clover Ebi... I really don't know what to say, I think what you said was all that was needed to be said, just man... When I first watched "that", I literally stared at my screen for minutes with tears, just in complete silence. It really broke my heart, it hurt bro.
Penny is the winter maiden, I can't believe that was a sentence I just typed. I reacted the same way you did, jumped out of my chair and everything!! It was insanely cool to see her eye flames become green instead of blue like how the original winter maiden did, such a cool detail!
I would've talked about some more stuff, but man I already typed too much stuff, like WAY too much lmao. Anyways, what an incredible video and I just it's only going to get better from here on out!!m Keep up with the amazing as always and I'll see you next time at the OST livestream!!!

Ironwood's biggest flaw isn't his fear. It's his denial of his fear. Winter understands that you have to at least recognize and accept the emotions you aren't proud of, but Ironwood can't even get that far. It thinks it makes him strong, but it doesn't, it only causes him to spiral and fuck up further. Ruby and Co. withholding information from him wasn't great (but understandable given their position), but he has no business bringing it up at this very critical juncture. It's his inherent trust issues doing the decision-making for him.
Ironwood's plan is the most defeatist plan possible, and there's no guarantee it would even work either.

    • @stomyn
      @stomyn Рік тому +17

It most certainly would have failed. Unless I'm missing something integral, it seemed like his plan was to raise Atlas into the atmosphere indefinitely, trusting that the atmospheric systems in place would keep them alive and well. The problem with that, is that those systems need Dust, which is a finite resource that they mine out of the earth. Once their supply of Dust ran out, they would have absolutely nothing keeping them alive, as they couldn't access the mines, not to mention any of the other raw materials and resources required to maintain those systems. Ironwood's plan was downright idiotic

    • @adnihilisadnihilis3980
      @adnihilisadnihilis3980 Рік тому +8

@@stomyn Plus, there's an even simpler problem : Dust does not work in space. So at the exact moment Atlas starts going into the atmosphere, all Dust systems shut down completely... And then, everyone will either starve or freeze to death within days. Clearly a great plan like no one else could have ever thought about !

    • @stomyn
      @stomyn Рік тому +9

@@adnihilisadnihilis3980 i don't think they were quite going to make it to space. I think they were going to get just against the threshold, since that was also the original plan for Amity. It wouldn't have been enough to save them, but it still would jave worked for a minute

    • @adnihilisadnihilis3980
      @adnihilisadnihilis3980 Рік тому +8

@@stomyn Yeah, it would have worked for a minute, I agree !
But the thing is : if they are too low, Grimms can still fly up there. Ofc, Ironwood does not know of the flying Imps right now, but soon enough, they would have been discovered, so Ironwood would have try to... "outfly" the Grimms. And well...
That would not have ended well x)
So whatever the way we look at this "plan", it had way too many reasons to fail and absolutely no one to succeed

    • @bonjourAshlyn
      @bonjourAshlyn Рік тому +9

Exactly, and Salem wouldn't just let them fly off and leave them alone she would still be after the relics and who knows if they can go far enough to avoid the Grimm since Salem can create Grimm out of nothing and her experiments seem to be getting more powerful. Ironwood mentions supplies would be safe but supplies run out and break down and I don't think Salem would let him land for a bit and restock, she'd probably have a hoard of Grimm waiting for them. Not to mention this decision to leave Mantle to die would irreparably destroy Atlas diplomatically. The other kingdoms are already wary of Atlas after the fall of Beacon imagine when they learn Ironwood left untold numbers to die to save himself, I doubt any kingdom would want to lend him a hand if they knew the second the going gets tough Atlas would abandon them too,I feel like so many people act like Ironwood sacrificing Mantle is some big moral trolley problem but he's always ready to throw Mantle away if it benefits him, and forget reuniting the world and making humanity whole because there will always be a floating reminder that mankind is not united and will turn on each other in hard times.

Episode 10: I love the long take this episode opens with because V3x10 also had a long take through the battle and comparing the two is insane. Crwby has come so far.
Episode 11: While the Ironwood and Watts fight is a definite highlight of this episode (and used the gravity biome which they had wanted to use back in V3 but either didn’t have the time or the animation skill), my favorite segment is the scene in Ironwood’s office. The tension in that scene is palpable and it’s amazing how quickly the tides turn. All it took was one little glass chess piece and Ironwood’s paranoia kicked in full throttle.
I love the juxtaposition of the two scenes of Summer we've had so far. In V6 the sun is shining and the music is hopeful, the camera moves toward Summer as she turns toward Ruby and she’s smiling. Ruby’s envisioning her as a light, a beacon of comfort. Here, the sky is grey and overcast, the music is this eerie screech, Summer is turning from Ruby as the camera moves away from her. She’s no longer that bright light. She’s just a painful memory, a reminder that she’s really gone.
Episode 12: The RWBY vs Ace Ops fight is hype as hell. Absolutely adore the choreo for this one. And War kicking in? Ugh. Masterpiece.
I also just really adore the conversations we get with Winter and Penny. Winter is trying so hard to shove her emotions down while Penny is not ashamed to show hers. I love Cinder’s comment about finding “both of Ironwood’s puppets.”
Episode 13: This is honestly Jessica Nigri’s best performance as Cinder up to this point. I remember really taking note of it the first time I watched.
I also remember people quickly going from worry to “oh damn she hot tho” when Winter’s hair came out of its bun. The immediate shift for the reactors I saw was hilarious.
Salem really heard her ex was in Atlas and decided to put on a bomb new outfit for the occasion. What a petty Queen.

Cinder is good at spotting emotional weaknesses in people, but she's also mostly only good at hammering at them, hence why she's so bad at securing Neo's loyalty.
Watts being pleased with Ironwood's line because he knows what it say about his character, thus hinting at his downfall.

31:28 It's at moments like these that I'm glad I'm not too deep into fandom culture. I've heard that people were pretty split about this.
Let me just say that I agree with Team RWBY. If you can save lives, you should save lives. Otherwise you leave those who fight for humanity to die in vain. I also agree with the fact that getting Amity up is more important than rising Atlas high into the atmosphere. (Who says Salem won't get there anyway?) And my third reason is because Ironwood isn't thinking clearly. He is *terrified* and *paranoid.* Cinder's glass chess piece has tipped the first domino over and now... now he's spiraling. He's betraying everyone he does not deem trustworthy.
I'm not saying his plan is bad. In terms of war, I think it could work, but only if someone with empathy stood at the helm. And I would see it as a last resort. This 'war' hasn't even started yet.

"The single quality that is common across every living creature on this planet... is fear. It's funny then, that as common as fear is... we so easily underestimate its power. Fear of growing close to someone, a subsequent fear of loss, fear of failure. And as more people depend on you, those fears can take on greater power. But fear itself isn't worthy of concern, it is who we become while in its clutches. Will you be proud of that person? Will you forgive them? Will you understand why they felt the need to do the things they did? Will you even recognize them? Or will the person staring back at you be the very thing you should have feared from the start? I suppose we all find out... sooner or later."
This is my absolute favorite monologue in this show.

Congrats on completely volume 7 and ohhhh myyyy was seeing you FREAK OUT so wonderfully delightful!! XDDD Poor chair, and yes, Ironwood being a stubborn, control freak who thinks he's the hero when he's the one making everything worse is ABSOLUTELY why Glynda ditched Ironwood's ass!
Seriously damn was it cathartic seeing you flip like that, but yeah, last few episodes of v7 are a rollercoaster and now to can see why we were all tails wagging and eager yet ominous grins again.
Now for talking little moments of nuance~
Don't have too much to say about chapter 10 other than Ironwood REALLY should have brought backup to fight Watts (100% a hero complex move; there were other Ace Ops and the fact he's now down another arm when he's the General who's meant to be keeping a clear head in case something goes wrong says enough about that), and holy hell you can really see the difference between 'calm brained Ironwood' taking Watts into custody and 'PTSD and on all the pain/pain medication brained Ironwood' cornering and shooting poor innocent and harmless 14 to 15 year old Oscar who had been trying to help him all volume, but well, more on that probably in the next comment (no way I'm going to be done with just a single comment when gushing about these chapters XDDD).
Episode 11 Gravity is honestly a highlight of the series and is totally worthy of being the fav episode in the series for a huge amount of the fandom (edit: wanna gush about the briliance in the episode title but I'll save that for the OST vid).
Like that opening fight between Ironwood and Watts is just..! Not only is the battle choreography and music amazing but the characterisation as well: We get to see Watts both as a brilliant genius and the petty, spiteful egomaniac he is at his core (though does his 'you chose that fat imbecile over me' line sound like jealous, angry ex talk to you too? -best crack hateship- XD), and Ironwood is relentlessly determined in a way that can so easily be seen as heroic if it weren't for how the only reason he has to make those 'sacrifices' is due to his own over reliance on brute strength (like that thinking he's won and thus getting trapped and forced to sacrifice his arm... Followed by that declaration he'll do whatever it takes to stop Salem and Watts, almost sickly delighted, answering back with "Oh I hope you do James, I hope you do". Horrifically perfect foreshadowing).
Then there's Ironwood's descent... From Cinder knowing all she has to do to set Ironwood off is leave a single black queen chess piece on his desk to trigger his PTSD (which in turn heavily implies that that 'cosmetic choice' to have the computer virus way back in V2 and 3 use the black queen as a visual display was 100% in universe intentionally and likely planned by Salem's lot specifically to break Ironwood), to how he's clearly so terrified of Salem he's back up against the wall trembling, to finally the way Ironwood very deliberately puts down his gun named 'Due Process' to pick up the Black Queen piece (aka 'Cinder/Salem's piece') himself as he's talking about 'changing accordingly'... Just wow~!

It makes sense that when Ironwood tries connecting the dots, he’s looking for an actual super intricate master plan where there just isn’t one and assumes that the single plan HAS to be super complex to explain all the villains actions, when all along the plan is very, very simple: do random mysterious nonsense to provoke his paranoia, isolating him from everyone but his unquestioning loyalists, then defeat his very predictable self

Penny is now the winter maiden! Yay! I often wonder why Ironwood never thought to use Penny as the holder of the powers… her body will never age, nor should it be susceptible to death (unless her piece of Pietro’s soul can expire? Not sure).

    List FINALE EDITION~!
    1. First this a nice bit of RWBY content in the midst of all the crap going on. I will always love this show for the ride its given me. Hopefully we can weather the storm.
    2. I mentioned that my fav Ironwood moment was last session. It was him just saying "No more secrets, I don't think I could take it..." I love it just because of how sincere he is being here I feel. The entire series we've seen his foundation of support being knocked down till finally we are here on its final legs. Love it.
    3. Tyrian being embodiment of chaos is always fun. Gonna miss the VA.
    4. I appreciate the little moment for Clover you did. Sad to see him go.
    5. Lots of good screams this batch of episodes. Cinder in particular just love them.
    6. This volume is definitely still in my top 3 I think. It is a rollercoaster ups and downs and twirly whirly doos.
Another fun session I definitely think the break then this was the right call so good job on that. I look forward to next time as we get closer an closer to my last list for your series. Till next time.

Not sure if anyone covered this, but I'll state the fun fact anyway because its one of my favorite things in the writing of Vol 7 :)
Each Ace Op is obviously based off of aesop's fables. Clover is the fisherman, Marrow is the story of the dog and his reflection in the water, Harriet is the tortoise and the hare, and Elm & Vine are the story of the Elm and the Vine if memory serves.
What's even MORE amazing though, is how each of them loses in their fights against team rwby. They all lost the same way that their counter part fables involved loss/the lessons learned.
Clover, much like the story of the fisherman, couldn't be satisfied with just one. One opponent, one arrest etc. Instead he tried taking all of them all and lost in the end.
Marrow, much like the dog in "the story of the dog and his reflection", let greed overcome and lead to foolish actions in the fight. Marrow attempted to use his semblance on both Weiss and her Knight, and it lead to his loss. Could also be viewed as he attempted to simply arrest her instead of giving it all, due to his desire to subdue and not aim for lethal or harsh fighting.
Harriet, much like the hare from tortoise and the hare, let cockiness and competitive drive control her fighting choices. Harriet in theory would be a better match to fight anyone else in rwby BUT RUBY, but due to the desire to be better than her from day 1 of meeting her, tunnel vision chose to go after her, leading to her loss in the long run.
Elm & Vine, much like in the story of the Elm and the Vine, failed to realize they needed to support each other in their fight to win. Elm and Vine's semblance and fighting styles work well together, similar to Yang and Blake. HOWEVER, Yang and Blake worked together during the fight, where as Elm and Vine argued more than anything, leading to their loss.
I simply admired this writing so much when I discovered it, hats off to the authors and team.
ALSO SMALL FUN FACT. When Ironwood is talking to Oscar, he has a glimmer of light in his eyes art style wise like every other good character or most characters in rwby. But when he makes the decision to shoot Oscar, just before he does, his glimmer isnt there, representing "the light that shines in us all" is fading from his possibly.

She's a lot weaker when it comes to the attack, but then she doesn't usually need to attack when she is in a fight, as her enemies are quite willing to come to her, especially in response to one of her silent taunts. And if they don't, well he illusion powers allow her to disengage quite effectively (especially in the face of an unknown assailant).

yo I JUST NOW realized something about the Qrow/Clover/Tyrian battle that makes Clover's decisions make a *little* more sense. Tyrian was still recovering from having his aura fully broken in their last fight, while Qrow was still in relatively good condition. As far as Clover was concerned, Qrow was the *much* bigger threat. I never noticed before, but nobody lands a single solid hit on Tyrian that whole fight, just a few odd punches and stuff, but I think if they had they'd have put him down pretty fast. I think that was what Clover was betting on there: he *needed* to take Qrow out first, because in a 1-on-1 with weakened Tyrian, his Good Luck would be way more meaningful.

Ok, so this is where a lot of people start to hate Ironwood, but I agree with him. His plan was always to help everyone. From the beginning he was trying to save everyone across the globe by establishing satellite communications, a plan that would fail if Salem's group knew about it, so he kept is secret even from others in positions of authority to minimize the risk. He never intended for it to be secret forever, just until it was safe to tell the truth. When he realized that he had to tell the truth, it was because everyone else gave him no other options in order to continue the amity project. At Jacques dinner party, he was told the truth about Salem, after which he was willing to work with the people that lied to him still, even people who openly attacked his reputation. He compromised and accepted their help. He even put the amity project at risk to save Mantle by luring Watts there (I still dont get why team rwby was mad about that, they knew it wasn't completed). He assigned all of his best troops to saving Mantle and evacuating civilians.
It was only when Salem personally showed up in his office, a literal immortal goddess, and said she was personally coming to assault Atlas, that he decided time was no longer on their side. They didn't have time to finish amity, it would take weeks or months worth of work to get it done. They couldnt finish evacuating everyone from Mantle into Atlas, the proximity sensors had been destroyed, so Salem was already on Solitas making her way to Atlas. At that point, it becomes a simple trolly problem. On one rail you have the citizens of Mantle who hadnt been evacuated yet, on the other rail, you have the entire population of Atlas, the Mantle citizens who had already been evacuated onto Atlas, and the rest of the world who still has no idea what they are fighting. If Atlas falls, all knowledge of Salem, and all the work in progress to stop her dies with it. It comes down to 1/2-2/3 of a single city vs an entire city, plus refugees, plus global security. Ironwood made the right call in that moment. He couldn't save everyone, so he chose to save who he could, and the world with it, instead. Team RWBY still wouldn't admit the situation had changed and that the best course of action was no longer available. They had the mindset that "I would rather let everyone die than leave someone behind" and because of this, Ironwood had to detain them, not because they were wrong, but because they were dangerous and wouldn't compromise with the man who had compromised so much for their sake.
Then there is Mettle, which is basically a mental illness; its like the opposite of executive dysfunction. In the best of times, he can push through hardship and come out on top, but in times like this, it hardens him against compromises. He makes a decision and nothing can sway him, and when the security of the world is at stake, he can no longer allow kids who didnt even finish high school to force their ideals on him. Even after it all, in the vault, he shows remorse for having to do the necessary evils to save everyone. He says "I wouldnt trust me either" he knows that what hes doing isn't right, but it's necessary given the terrible circumstances. He let his guard down and let RWBY and ALPN have their way all season, which let Salem in. He even points out the morality argument, which wont matter if everyone is dead. Ending with mettle kicking in, his literal mental illness, and him shooting Oscar to ensure he won't try and stop him (which I agree is when he turns full villain, but up until that point, he was making all the right, terribly hard decisions).
People hate on Ironwood so much, but it really just comes down to optimistic children with a hero complex vs a trained adult who has led a nation for years and knows the horrors of war having to make bad decisions for a few to ensure the good of the majority. After he shoots Oscar though, oh ya, all bets are off, full villain mode.

I remember when episode 11 came out and people were instantly saying "best episode in all of RWBY". It hits all the notes. And Ironwood is one of the best written characters at this point. From his very first appearances, everything was laid out for us. This is a guy who gives trust very unwillingly and who leans on control and power to compensate for fear. We saw it when he brought his whole air fleet with him for the Vital Festival in season 2. And since then the pressure has just been piling on, and stakes have been consistently upped. So when people claim he's written ooc in these seasons or that he "went crazy for no reason", like bro you just weren't paying attention.
Also, as understandable as the situation is, I'm going to miss having Josh Grelle as Tyrian in the future. :(

Harriet: "We're the best huntsmen in Atlas."
Ruby: "You were. Then you trained us."
Ah, Ruby has grown up so much. 1st volume, she was nervous, willing to do whatever was asked of her, and asking for autographs from huntsmen. Now, she's smack-talking with the best, experienced huntsmen. lol 😏😎
When it comes to Clover's death, my thing always was, with all of their technology, they couldn't figure out who's fingerprints are on the weapon? After all, the last person to touch the weapon would be the clearest fingerprints. So, you see a convicted serial killer's fingerprints on the weapon, Qrow says that Tyrian used his weapon to kill Clover after he got a hold of it after the crash, and that should be the end of it. After all, which is more likely, a well respected huntsman killing a high ranking, very capable officer, or a serial killer killing the said officer? Yeah, anyone would, or should, come to the conclusion that the serial killer was the killer of Clover. So, there shouldn't have been any reason why Qrow would be charged for his death. Sure, he'd be locked up because that's what Ironwood illegally asked for, but nobody should blame him for Clover's death at least.
Don't forget, Neo vs Raven right after Neo vs Yang. Neo "noped" that one. And, the Cinder vs Neo, Neo lost that one. Yes, it took Cinder using her Maiden powers, but she still lost. Yes, Neo is probably the best fighter in the series, when not up against powerful semblances. If she were to face off against Weiss, I think she'd have difficulty. After all, Ruby, with Crescent Rose, was able to do pretty good in the battle with her. Since Ruby's weapon is a long-reach weapon as well, Neo's umbrella had a bit more difficulty. Long-reach weapons seem to be the best against Neo. In the Cinder fight, Cinder didn't use her regular semblance, her glass swords, in the fight. Had she used them, I think the fight wouldn't have been as easy for Neo.
Ok, that was very poor leadership on Jaune's part, again. HE LEFT OSCAR BEHIND!!! Who does that?! Who doesn't make sure that everyone is together when fleeing from a powerful enemy? You know that you run only as fast as your slowest person, and Oscar had been fighting with Neo since before you knew what was happening, so of course he'd be more tired than the rest of you. Even if it wasn't just Oscar as a teammate being left behind, HE LEFT THE RELIC BEHIND with Oscar! Are you kidding me? You're a good leader? Nope. You're too self-centered. Again, I really don't like Jaune.
Yep. Cinder isn't very good. She has lost every 1-on-1 fight against another experienced Maiden that she's been in. Every one. lol For thinking herself so powerful, she's pretty sad.
Again, RIP chair. Someone call Chair Care Services on Gh0xt. Poor thing. 😜
Penny's clothes must be made out of something much stronger than Winter's, otherwise she'd be naked. lol Winter's glove's fingertips were blown off, yet Penny's clothes are just fine.
Penny, best, "purest" girl. Though, I still think Weiss is best girl. Her development throughout the series is bar-none above the others.
The look in Ironwood's eyes. Yep, Cinder pushed him off the deep end. Remember, even Piedro said that Ironwood's paranoia was getting the better of him. Cinder finished it's getting a solid control of him.
BANG!!! RIP Chair, again. How it's survived so long in this finale, I don't know. It's definitely resilient, at least.
Just remember what the voice acting was like in V1. Look how far they've come. I really do hope that we get to hear these voice actors and actresses in other anime series' dubs. They started as amateurs who had never even thought about voice acting. Now they're exceptional VAs. RT, way to go training such good VAs. And hats off to the VAs who have learned so much and practiced so much to make it so that we can immerse ourselves in the story and our emotions can follow right along. I know Oscar's voice actor is well-known in the anime universe, but many of the VAs were amateurs and are now professionals. Funimation, there's your next great VAs. Start working with them ASAP. I think that a lot of the anime dubs could use them to make them better.
    Again, Casey killing it.
Too many horrific things have occurred on the "just following orders" excuse. That's why, in the U.S. military, if a military leader gives an illegal/immoral order, it is the legal responsibility of the soldiers to not follow that order. If they do follow the order then they're complicit with the one giving the order and will be punished accordingly.
When you decided to start watching the series, did you ever think that you'd get so invested in it that you'd end up losing your voice because of how emotional it got you?
I have to give RT major props and especially give my greatest respect to Monty for creating such a good story. Their animation started rough, but their story and world-building is top-notch. It's good enough that Japan animators and anime production companies, people who don't have the same history and lore that the U.S. does and is the basis of the story, appreciate the story and world so much that they created their own spin-off. You don't see other cultures take your stories and adapt them for their own culture. When that happens, you know you've created something special. I wonder how popular and how many seasons the RWBY: Ice Queendom spin-off series will have. Hopefully many.
Can anyone else think of an American based series that has had anime adaptations as well? This is the first one I can think of. It's probably why it's considered the first anime exported to Japan.
Amazing edits. Just don't overdo it so that you burn yourself out. We love the edits, but we want you to have fun too. Oh, and congrats on getting popular RWBY reactors to take notice of your reactions, like Murderofbirds. You're definitely one of, if not my favorite RWBY reactor. You go all-out for us and we appreciate it. Can't wait for V8's reactions.

Actually, Cinder is probably the second-greatest fighter in the entire series in terms of skill, surpassed only by Ozpin himself (if Neo tried to take on Ozpin, she’d get absolutely wrecked).
Even when comparing her to Pyrrha Nikos, the world-renowned top fighter of Beacon Academy, Mercury remained certain that Cinder (even before becoming the Fall Maiden) would *_“be able to take her no problem.”_* And she did.
As for why Cinder lost to Raven in Volume 5, that was mainly due to Raven’s superior knowledge and experience with the Maiden powers, having about a decade longer than Cinder with which she used to master them, whilst Cinder only had a few months at most. It is also important to acknowledge Cinder’s disadvantages during this and her other battles. Firstly, her Grimm arm (its official name being “Shadow Hand”), whilst enabling her to siphon Aura and/or magic like the Maiden powers into herself, also serves as a crippling weakness, and not just to the Silver Eyes. Because Aura does not protect Cinder’s Shadow Hand, we see it getting impaled by a shard of her own sword at the beginning of this fight, not to mention the however many tonnes of rock that collapsed on her later. Despite enduring the pain of what would be equivalent to grievous and debilitating (and even fatal) injuries on most people, Cinder is still able to fight on, which speaks to her sheer strength and willpower, to the point where her Aura level was about the same as Raven’s by the end.
Additionally, we mustn’t forget about the other scars and burnt flesh and tissue all over Cinder’s body; those ought to contribute to lessening her full potential in some regard. Furthermore, Cinder is missing an eye, which diminishes one’s ability to judge distance and harms their overall fighting ability. Therefore, Cinder can fight her enemies even with poor vision and other physical defects. So Cinder is technically a superior fighter to Raven in terms of skill but was just overcome by her older opponent’s greater experience with the Maiden powers, as well as her own physical disabilities (namely the loss of her eye, heavy scarring, and an entire arm that can’t be protected by Aura). Had Cinder been in her peak physical form like she was when she defeated and killed Ozpin himself in Volume 3, Raven might not have fared so well against the Dark Maiden here.
These same disadvantages are carried by Cinder throughout her other battles, including here, as the final boss of Volume 7. And yet, Cinder was able to easily outmatch and physically overpower both Winter Schnee and a fully-powered and upgraded Penny Polendina single-handedly.
Winter has been shown to have a skill level comparable to Qrow, Tyrian and Clover (and superior to the rest of the Ace-Ops), and according to Watts, Winter is above their level. Interestingly, because Raven Branwen has been both explicitly stated and shown to be evenly matched with Qrow in terms of skill, this would also mean that Cinder is, in fact, a superior fighter to Raven in terms of pure skill as a warrior.
Additionally, Penny, who was also fighting Cinder at the time, was a super-powered living android with unnatural amounts of speed, strength, etc., not to mention her numerous mechanical weapons and significant resistance to injury (both fatal and otherwise). I think it’s safe to say that even without the Maiden powers, Penny can defeat most of the characters in RWBY. This being, who was strong enough to stop a high-speed incoming truck with her bare hands easily and shatter the ground in the process in Volume 2, charged and punched at Cinder with that same strength... and Cinder just caught the punch with her bare hand like it was nothing, before proceeding to throw the Protector of Mantle around like a rag doll.
Cinder was able to outmatch these skilled warriors separately and simultaneously... and that was without even using any of her Maiden powers! This is an important detail to point out about Cinder: outside of Maiden battles, Cinder makes very little, if not _no_ use of her Maiden powers when combating her opponents - only really using them to summon her weapons if necessary - relying instead on her natural skills to beat her enemies. For example, when Cinder fought Glynda Goodwitch in the very first episode of the series, NONE of the attacks Cinder utilised were of Maiden power - it was all Cinder’s Semblance: Scorching Caress. Cinder caught Penny’s superhuman punch without using her Maiden powers; Cinder outperformed both Penny and Winter in sword and hand-to-hand combat *_without_* the use of her Maiden powers. And with her usual confident smile. Therefore, Cinder proved to be more skilled than many of the world’s greatest fighters by using her own raw talent and prowess.
Given all of this, it should be easy to see that even fighters as skilled as Neo are no great challenge for Cinder. Even without the Maiden powers, Cinder is a far more skilled fighter than even Neo (Cinder was skilled enough to defeat and kill Ozpin himself in single combat, after all). Notice how in their fight in Volume 6, Cinder didn’t even bother to bring out her weapons for most of the battle and just fought bare-handed, and only when Neo refuses to listen does she start getting more serious and brings out her swords. She tries again with reason, but when Neo still doesn’t listen, Cinder immediately ends the fight by showcasing just a tiny fraction of her true power. Despite Neo having gotten stronger since Volume 3 and fighting her hardest trying to kill Cinder, Cinder was able to keep up with her and get some solid hits in, even though Cinder wasn’t even trying. If Cinder wanted to kill Neo, she could have done so quite easily, even without the Maiden powers. Still, Cinder wasn’t trying to defeat Neo so much as focusing on re-recruiting her into her cause, despite Neo’s betrayal and attempted assassination of Cinder.
Overall, Cinder is the second most skilled fighter in all of RWBY. No one but Ozpin has been shown to possess greater fighting ability than her without using magic (though Ozpin did use his magic when fighting Cinder in the Volume 3 finale). Also, Cinder and Fria never actually fought, so don't count her alongside Raven as having beaten her.

@@TheGreater-ScopeVillain Sorry, but you're wrong. Cinder already had half of the Maiden's powers when Mercury said that she should be able to take Pyrrha. We also know that Mercury isn't one to think that the enemy is stronger than he is. Look at the end of V5. By the end, all of Cinder's team were winded and finished, while Ruby's friends were ready to continue the fight. He was plenty haughty at the beginning of that fight, by the end, he wasn't ready to try continuing on. If he was as good as he thought himself to be, there wouldn't have been a need to run away.
Cinder had to use her Maiden's powers to defeat Pyrrha. As we saw, Pyrrha had the upper hand in at least a couple of places, especially when she had Cinder trapped under all of that steel. Cinder had to use her Maiden's powers to beat Pyrrha.
Sure, she beat Ozpin, but Oz even told the others later that his powers have been dwindling and the Maiden's powers come from both him and Salem. The powers being from their kids makes way more sense than Ozpin "giving" the powers to them. After all, Ozpin lies constantly, regarding just about everything. Especially when it comes to his personal life. If you don't think he started that whole "old man giving the powers to girls" fairy tale to cover where they really came from, then you haven't been paying much attention to Ozpin's personality.
We've seen that stopping a truck isn't that big of a feat in RWBY. Just look at when Elm stopped the huge charging Elephant/Mammoth grimm, right in it's tracks, without much trouble. That had a LOT more momentum and was a lot heavier than that truck was. The reason she didn't tear up the road is because, unlike Penny, she's not ridged and she spread out the impact over a larger surface area than the small feet Penny has. All of the impact was on those 2 small feet which broke through the road. Once that happens, it's easy for the rest to break up. Remember, Ruby mentions that she grew up on a small island, so when she's wondering how she did that, it's because of her limited experience, not because it was unusual.
Cinder only defeated the Maiden, where she got half of her powers, because, as Qrow even mentioned as the reason for the Maiden's loss, Autumn/Amber was inexperienced, as well as she was facing 2 experienced fighters and another one being able to manipulate the mind. After all, when Qrow showed up, they ran instead of fighting him and getting the rest of the powers then and there. The look on Mercury's face when he saw Qrow shows that he was afraid of him and Cinder said she wasn't worried, only because of the fact that he hadn't seen their faces. Clearly, she knew Qrow was a better fighter than all of them combined.
When trying to recruit Adam, if she was such a good fighter, she could have challenged Adam right then and there, with Mercury and Emerald covering her back from any other White Fang who tried to interfere. They could have easily handled any that came at them. Yet, she retreated until after she got the Maiden's powers to finish the recruitment. That shows that she wasn't even as strong as Adam.
Next, Raven clearly had the upper hand in that fight. Raven didn't even look winded, while Cinder was having a hard time getting up. Honestly, even without Vernal's help, Raven would have taken her in the end. Raven's experience in fighting kept her from shock when Cinder tried taking her powers away. She just stayed calm and took back the initiative. We've seen where, when Cinder realizes she's losing, she loses control and screams and fights crazily, instead of looking for a different solution than fighting her way through. (I was a bit surprised that Raven didn't just cut that arm off to stop the transfer and weaken Cinder until it grew back, rather than freezing her feet.)
When facing Neo, Cinder was on the losing end of the fight, which is why she pulled out the Maiden trump card to stop Neo and winning the battle. . She didn't even lay a finger on Neo while she was being pushed back multiple times. It's not until she started using her Maiden's powers that she actually pose a threat to Neo. You can tell by the look on Neo that she didn't know about those powers. Had she known, she probably would have fought differently. Even after the fight, you can see that Neo isn't the least bit intimidated by Cinder, even after knowing about her powers.
When she tried to take the powers from the previous Winter Maiden, it wasn't even a challenge for her to stop Cinder in her tracks. She just grabbed her arm and took care of Cinder, throwing her back easily. Cinder could only sit there in awe of her, knowing there was nothing she could do. Then, later, Winter was good enough, even with Cinder fighting harder because of her rage at her arm being cut off, which you know that when she's that mad she's not going to hold back, Winter was able to keep her busy long enough that Penny was able to get the powers.
Yes, Winter and Penny were losing, but Cinder was using her Maiden's powers, clearly. Do you really think she can fly without them? Not a chance. Her flying through the air has been shown time and again to be from the maiden's powers, such as in the fight with Raven and...
      HUGE SPOILER ALERT:
...when she fights Penny. In that battle, Cinder proves how she's out of her league when it comes to fighting another Maiden. Penny hadn't even had her powers for more than a couple of days and she wiped the floor with Cinder. And she didn't need Winter's help to do it. To even put up a decent fight, Cinder had to go back after the tower and Penny's friend and father. Even with Penny trying to protect the tower, Maria, and especially her father, she still won. If it wasn't for Emerald saving her, she could have been killed right then and there and the powers would have gone on to someone else. But, had she been, it would have been the end of one of the series biggest baddies. (That was kind of dumb on RT's part since we've seen ones block gunshots throughout the series, yet Penny wasn't supposed to be able to protect 1 target from 1 person's bullets? It's not like they would be coming from multiple directions or at multiple targets with multiple guns. We've even seen her fend off 2 air-ships' guns at the end of V1. It was just 1 gun from 1 target. How hard would that be after all we've seen her do? It was definitely just put into the story to keep Cinder alive.)
At the end of V8, unlike when she was fighting in the sky, Penny couldn't go all out because of all of the people around trying to get through the gates. She had to worry about protecting them while fighting Cinder. Cinder couldn't care less about those people, so she had no problem going all out. On top of that, having a real body for the first time, for not even an hour, changed all of her sensations and all of her ways of fighting and caused her to actually feel pain. That would be a HUGE detriment to her fighting capabilities. Those are the only reasons why Penny lost that fight.
Even without them having Maiden's powers, and with Cinder clearly using hers, they were able to keep her busy until Penny could give Winter those powers. When Winter does get the powers, even after just getting them and not knowing how to actually use them, she starts throwing Cinder around until everyone can get out. This proves that Winter was the better fighter than Cinder. Again, Cinder fails against a fellow Maiden.
      END OF SPOILER
Clearly, Cinder isn't the best fighter in the series. She just uses underhanded tricks, such as going after innocents and ganging up on the inexperienced, to fight. Raven, Qrow, Penny, Winter, and the previous Winter Maiden have beaten her. As much as she thinks she's all that, she's really not.

Congrats on finishing Volume 7! One Volume away from being caught up! What a crazy set of events, from Ironwood's heel turn, to Penny becoming the Winter Maiden, RWBY vs. Ace Ops, Clover's death, Ironwood shooting Oscar which is actually foreshadowed in the opening with him firing off a shot to the screen, and capping off the Volume with the arrival of Salem on her giant whale Grimm, named Monstra after Monstro from Pinocchio, it's one wild finale. I actually just got done with your soundtrack reaction which was a ton of fun!
What's great about the song War is that it has 4 singers, 2 of them being the VAs for Elm and Harriet. It's also been determined that Fear is from Oscar's POV, since it has his motif that played in the first he appeared in in Volume 4. We also hear Ironwood's motif in Hero which has been following him since Vol. 2.
There's definitely a double meaning behind the title of Gravity, there's the fight with Watts and Ironwood, which is actually fought on a biome that was originally intended to play into the Volume 3 tournament fights but was cut and reintroduced in Volume 7, you can actually see the biome in the background of one episode of Volume 3, during Penny's fight alongside Ciel Soleil, but it went unused. Then there's the second meaning, which is the gravity of the situation, Salem on her way to Atlus and RWBY fending off the Ace Ops. While on the subject of that scene, the moment when Salem brings up Summer is so chilling, and gives us a very horrifying hint into what happened to her, not to mention how that moment effected sweet little Ruby, those shots of Summer are so twisted when you think of the implications. You really have to wonder, what did Summer go through at the hands of Salem to the point that Salem would remember her specifically out of all the lives she's taken.
Ironwood's turn really feels like a inevitability when you look back at how he's operated, from bringing his army with him to Vale and Beacon in the concern that a threat could even be possible of being present, to closing off the borders and recalling all his troops to prioritize defending Atlus above all else, to the Dust Embargo, he's always operated in a reactionary backfooted way controlled by fear. It's no wonder he would eventually go off the deep end when pushed to his limits, and Salem played him like a fiddle to push him to that extreme. In my opinion, Team RWBY was in the right to withhold information from Ironwood given how paranoid he was coming off from the outset, as they really need to know if they could trust him, it just unfortunate that it played a factor into his turn. It's my belief he would have eventually gone down this path no matter what time he was told the truth, he would still be played by Salem to give in to his fear. It's apparent that Mantle was always low on his priority list, whenever he talked about his plan, most of the time, Mantle didn't come into the equation at all, even his plan to make the Amity Communiations Tower took away from supplies that should have gone to Mantle, that hole in Mantle's outer wall is emblematic of the neglect Ironwood shows to Mantle. Whatever he did, the "bigger picture" didn't include the lower city of little people it would effect.
Fear has been a consistent theme throughout the series, from Professor Lionheart being submissive to Salem's demands out of fear, to Raven so afraid that she would rather be on the run constantly with her bandit tribe and try not to get on Salem's radar despite being a Maiden, and now Ironwood who's gone down his own antagonistic route, it all comes back to fear, and the person you could become when in it's clutches, or maybe it even brings out who you really are deep down.
