- I purchased a MotorGuide Wireless Foot Pedal for my Xi3 Motor. In my first season with the Xi3 I used the hand remote to control the motor and just disliked using it because I had a cable steer motor in the past which I liked using and prefer to have my hands free. In this video I unbox, connect and test the foot pedal. What are my thoughts?
Lots of people are hating on these pedals, 99% of the time, it's because of their own simple mistakes, or thinking they are buying a pedal that will work like a cable-steer. This is actually not a control pedal like that, it is really a foot-operated fob controlling a motor-steered head. Swapping the springs out to 360's will make them much easier to use too!! It's a great product, but folks need to do the research before linking up amd just heading to the lake. Lots of folks have wound up going home wet because of these issues.
I absolutely agree! It's definitely not like cable steer. But what it does is gets your hands free. That was my sole purpose for buying it. Hated using the remote all the time when I'm trying to fish. Thanks for your comment.

I have the same unit and foot pedal. My foot pedal is not sensitive at all. When I try to make micro adjustments, the motor will make full swings to the left or right. I absolutely hate this foot pedal. Don't know if you have this issue or if I have a faulty pedal. Great video. Keep up the good work
Hey Bryan! Thanks for your comments. I honestly haven't had the foot pedal long enough to make a true assessment on it. Out of the gate it seems pretty good. Honestly I'm not a fan of the wireless tech with this stuff. I inherited the motor with the boat. I prefer cable steer motors. Wanted my hands free so it seems this was a good option. My concern also was with battery life and at what point does it start to affect response times (like what's going on with you) and if it killed batteries quickly. Was your pedal acting like that right from the start?
You have to keep in mind you aren't using a cable steer, where you turn as much as you tilt your ankle. Here, you works with a series of "taps", as with any motor-steered head like Minn Kota Powerdrive. Basically, you rest your foot on the pedal with pressure on the button to go, but you shortly "tap/lean" left or right in increments, adjusting your angle of turn. It's a piece of cake when you get used to it.
i have that foot pedal sitting on my amazon list. last tournament i was in, i missed setting the hook because i was messing with the remote
Someone who can relate! I feel for ya man. Nothing more annoying than missing fish because you're messin with the remote. Especially in a tournament! That hand remote pissed me off so much I was ready to throw it in the water lol. The pedal has its pros and cons. The pros definitely come out on top. If you buy it make sure to carry extra batteries with you just in case. Thanks for watching and Tight lines!

@@TacoOperator Look up Motor guide reviews, it's a common complaint, everything else is great. If you think it's going to move like the old cable type you will be disappointed.
How is it working so far after 7 months? I actually bought and XI5 that came with one and had never used it. I’ve been thinking about starting to use it now.
Hey Abner! I don't have the boat anymore but I can tell you that it was the best purchase I made for the motor. I disliked the wireless remote because I seemed to always have it in my hands. The foot pedal is a must if you prefer a hands free approach. Worked well for me. My only suggestion is to keep extra batteries on board for the pedal just in case. Never know when they might die. Hey Dan! Sold the boat so I have no long term review on it. For the time I had it I liked it because my hands were free. In my honest opinion...I was never a fan of the wireless technology with it and could see that being an issue. I'm back to a cable steer with the new boat I have. Sorry to hear you're not a fan of it. What's the issue with it?
@@X2OOutdoors The springs in the pedal are too stiff, and it's not a natural feel at all. Someone said it's better to think of it as a foot operated remote
@@danhufferdoutdoors I agree with you on the stiffness part. I found it that way as well. Sometimes even a small lag in the motor engaging (a delay). Worked well enough to keep me happy. How did you find the battery life?
Battery life is good, best with matched batteries

Did you have to put a wire to your GPS or is it Bluetooth?
Hey Tony. The foot pedal runs on wireless signal (bluetooth) so when you spot lock it works pretty good.
On a side note I have the motor itself connected direct to my Humminbird Helix 7 which has GPS.
I use the transducer that's built into the motor which I had to buy a special cord for. The cord that's on it is only compatible with Lowrance.
