Blessing in disguise, imagine if back then they had just replaced the door. The wonderful paneled door would have been lost forever.
Excellent inspiration for our new place where literally every internal door is different. That spray gun looks like a game changer..
Another master class. Totally worth spending the time to strip the doors ‘Mechanically’ rather than dip…. Lost 17 doors to a professional dip service - shrinkage snd loss of glue in the joints destroyed them. Patience pays off 😎👍✅
Fantastic! My fiance and I just moved into a 200+ year home. We're going to have to learn about restoration- my fiance has more repair experience than I do, so that's a plus. As it stands, I have endeavored to do some of the doors, to start. I think this would be within my capabilities! Many thanks:)
Nice job - the sprayer worked very well and I like the appearance of the door knobs after a few months.
Like your home, the doors and many other original features in my Edwardian house were clad and painted with gloss so it was a lovely surprise when the cladding was removed. It is definitely worth the effort of hand stripping the doors as you advise. I made the mistake of getting my Edwardian doors dipped and they were ruined as they came back warped. Thank you for your inspirational UA-cam channel.
it's worth restoring them Tim love it.
hi guys im new to the channel and wanted to say love every video. Fantastic job, can't wait to see what property you'll get next!
Love the reuse and restore, takes more effort but worth it and cheaper than replacing with equivalent replacement.
Not to mention way more environmentally friendly :)
Wonderful! Now I know how to do with my 170 years old doors.
We've got 4 upstairs doors in identical condition to how yours started. It's on my list of jobs to strip them back
If you had to redrill the holes for the latches, how would you do it? Smallest size latch I’ve found is around 23mm and the door is 27mm thick. I’ve used a spade bit but you have to get it absolutely Bob straight or else it will pop out on the side of the door.
I’ve got the exact same doors as you and copied the colour and I love it so thank you!
Awesome
Great work on the doors, and the speed and finish achieved with the sprayer is very appealing. I’m painting our internal doors with Brouns & co linseed oil paint (after watching you use it, and we are very impressed with it) do you think it would be possible to apply this paint with a sprayer? (the slow drying times would not be an issue for us)
****Loved watching your youngest having off with your hammer at **7:34** :) ****
Diamond Eggshell is around £90 for 5L. Be interested to know your costs? I’ve used it on some walls.
My favourite paint for doors is Johnstone’s Aqua Satin. Lovely stuff, high quality finish. Covers really well. Cheers
where can I get the flexible "workbench" thingy, that you used under the doors while stripping them?
Could you let me know the make and model of your sprayer please as I heard you say airless but would really appreciate getting exact details, many thanks
love this ... where did u get ur handles and hinges from ?
What was the table type thing you put the door on at the beginning
Question about the method of removing the old paint. I assume the paint is old, and so has lead in it. No danger in removing it like this?. Isn't a paint stripper better option? - Would be happy for your thoughts here.
Where did you get the Graco sprayer?
What paint gun did you use? I want to buy one but not sure which brand is good. Thanks.
What colour did you paint them? Looks like clunch from farrow and ball . Please tell me as would love to paint mine that colour.
Wher in Somerset are you from I am from somerton if you know where that is love watching your videos great tips keep up the good work
Great video I really like the adjustable work stand you used for holding the doors while stripping. Where did you source it ? Would you recommend one ? Keep up the good work.
Lidl's 👍
It’s a Bora centipede. There is a video on it a month or two back. 👍
Little miss mischief running away with a hammer when your back’s turned!!! 😂
Hi, how long does it take to restore a door. Thanks.
heat gun or blow lamp is the only way to strip paint nowadays when i was a apprentice using them just after the formula was changed it took 6-7 coats of stripper just to strip one door and frame must have got through about £60 worth if you don't like making money use paint stripper. the best way to prime those doors would be to use aluminium primer it permanently block the knots
What filller do you use to repair dents and holes in old doors?
Ronseal wood filler he used.
Nice brown coat
Hello, just wondering what RAL colour your doors are? Beautiful colour
7044
Great T-Shirt. Can you do the Banana Splits? :-)
Did you use the hot air gun while scrapping of the door paint
Yes
I would love to know how he powers the sprayer as I noticed it’s a American plug
It’s three pin 240v model. 👍
@@TheRestorationCouple where did you source it from I can only find American online
Spray direct I think.
@@TheRestorationCouple thank you very much brilliant job on the restoration
Nice job....heat gun only way to go
I thought you were going to restore this door? You cleaned it up and painted it rather.
Painting over that wood is just a shame. It went from shit to shit.
Too much effort. Just buy another for £50-100 and call it a day.
ahh yes a channel called the restoration couple is just gonna throw all the original doors away.
Can you Bob a link in for period doors in the same quality as the originals for £50-100 as I’d love some, cheers 😂👍
@@gerrym4377 I'll do you one better. Pop into B&Q or Screwfix or any timber merchants and you can get a 4 or 6 panel solid door for about £65. You can go fancier and get a solid oak door for just under a £100. Unless there's something truly unique about an interior door, it's not worth the bother trying to restore one. The doors worth restoring are usually the front doors of 1930s, art deco, victorian, edwardian etc Definitely not these bog standard internal doors like in this video.
@@AJ-ds5gf ah. Well as someone who lives in a 1920s home and has a mixture of original doors and some as you describe installed by a previous owner I can say they just don’t compare in quality, the new ones look like cheap reproductions. Each to their own though 😊
@AJ Ever wonder about the state of the planet? Why spend some time restoring perfectly good stuff when you can just buy some new stuff and throw it away!? 🙄😒
