I frequently encounter with some sentences having "took to" while reading newspapers. " he took to twitter after winning the match". " donald trump took to twitter after the successful treaty with india". I dont know whether it is collocation or phrasal verb but it intrigues me every time i encounter with .
Here's some other collocations I could remember: "take a chance", "take care of", "take part", "take advantage", "take a breath" and "have a blast", :) Love this channel!
I love this channel and as a non native ESL teacher, I can´t thank you enough for your professional videos. My students and I enjoy every single lesson! ABRAZOS from Spain!
I try to take time to watch your video because the knowledge i have learned from these lessons make my E improve and also make me want to learn more and more. Thanks a million, Mr. Wes.
Hello Mr. Wes how are you? I still remember when we met in Berkeley, Ca. I studied at TLC. But I didn’t spent whole program there. I had to get back to Brazil. Because I had to finish my graduation. I was in California in a vacation trip. You were teaching at level 9. I was in level 3. Milla was my teacher. I really miss that wonderful time that I’ve spent in California.
Thank you so much for TAKING the time to MAKE this lesson. Practicing is one of the best steps on/in ? the lesson for/to? me. I HAVE to memorize the whole sentence to write it down in the comments, to me that is an excellent practice. As you can see I have doubts about what word to use. I like that because it is like learning from my mistakes.
I just watched one of your videos and I really can;t sop watching the rest of your videos.Keep going teacher on your amazing teaching, wish I can speak like natives one day.
Thanks for being so interactive in presenting the topic in a lucid manner . Collocation is seldom discussed but it is one of the most important aspects of the language esp. for non- native speakers . You could have included the verb to get to make the topic more informative . Your way of expression is fascinating ...! Thanks A lot..!
Thank you sir ,I m from India .Ur teaching way is very interesting. I have watched many videos on UA-cam to improve English but ur way of teaching is very interesting and interactive
Hi Amandeep. I'm glad that you like our style of teaching. In the future, we'll do more lessons on collocations because it's a great way to build one's vocabulary. Hope all is well and have a wonderful Tuesday. 😃🎉
Hi Wes. I have no problems to understand you and for this reason I strongly recommend to watch your lovely videos. It also takes some minutes. By the way, are you having a good weather? Take care.
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad our lessons are easy to follow & understand. Right now, we're traveling in France. The weather is a little cool, but I kind of like it. Have a great day! 😃
Thanks a lot for this useful tool! Thank you guy! When I have just took a look at this video I've had a wonderful time. I'll take more time to have new collocation lessons from you. Congrats on doing good work!!!
Thanks. It's worth watching. Maybe I should take more lesson to perfect it. I think we use have when we form a present participle sentence. For example -Having finished her work, she went for a ride. Maybe you can tell more about this. This is just an answer to your question.
Thanks so much for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson. If you're interested, here's a lesson we did on the present & past perfect. 😃👍 How to Use the Present Perfect: ua-cam.com/video/IQ190KHbgPQ/v-deo.html How to Use the Past Perfect: ua-cam.com/video/Jnw9SYABhJU/v-deo.html

Hey... Teacher..... First of all u r rock. I just love your lesson. Farther more m an ordinary English Lerner from Bangladesh. I've been learning English for six months of course from you tube videos. I don't know my level most probably intermediate . I just wanna mention all of yours vdos help me a lot. Thank you. One more thing I wanna speak like you for that try to imitate you if u upload some imitate lesson for accent improving that would be great. Thanks again. Sushmita. 😊
Thank you very much for your help! You are great! I have just taken the opportunity to learn something new and very important. - have an interview; - have a dream; - have a nightmare; - have a dance; - have a doubt; - have a birthday; - have a party; - have a backache; - have something in common. - take notes; - take a test; - take an exam; - take a break. - have/take a seat; - have/take a shower; - have/take a look; - have/take a chance; - have/take an opportunity. I think that have or take a shower means the same thing and it's a difference between British and American English. I'm not sure about it. Have an opportunity or a chance maybe doesn't mean the same. I had the chance to watch your lesson and I took it. Someone else could have had the same opportunity without taking it. Am I right? Collocatios like the last five I wrote make me confused!!! 😰😰😰
Thanks so much for commenting & sharing with us. You're right. With some words you can use either HAVE or TAKE. Sometimes they have the same/similar meaning and other times they don't. You can HAVE/TAKE a shower and it means the same. I think most use TAKE in American English. And you're correct about having an opportunity or having the chance to (do something). They similar, except "opportunity" implies a real benefit. 😃👍
Thanks for your comment Marzi. I'm glad you liked the lesson. We'll make some more collocations lessons in the future because it's a great way to build vocabulary. Have a great day! 😃👍

Thnks for this video it's very good can help me to know about english language more but I want to ask about take and have , so how about take care it's situation or time or problems?
Hi Nina. Thanks for commenting & checking out the lesson. That's another great collocation (take care). Depending on the context, it could refer to a problem (take care of something) or even a situation (take care of someone). 😉👍

Hello Teacher Wes. Are you and your family having a wonderful day? I hope so. I enjoyed your lesson so early this morning. Now it is time for taking a hot chocolate with one Mexican torta. Would you like to have one?
Thanks for commenting Isabel. Hmm...that sounds like a science term. I guess it depends on the context in which the words are used. I can think of anything other than the known existence of the atmosphere, which might make it tangible. Sorry, can't give you an accurate definition off the top of my head. 🤔
Interactive English thanks- it was simply because I heard it in the BBC news referring to the crowds waiting outside Winsor castle whilst they were waiting for the royal wedding to commence.
Mayada swelam Yeah my girl! I'm not Wes, but I'll answer it for ya hehehe There are some possible reasons: his American accent or that "t" is a silent letter, whose sound we can't hear, alright?? Let's wait for his confirmation! Cheers, my friend!!
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson. And that's a great question. I think you probably heard it correctly and I said it as a muted T sound. I'm not the rule (possibly even an exception) but some Americans will mute Ts, or even say a very faint /d/ sound, when the letter T is in the middle of some words. For the most part, Americans use a Flap T (/d/ sound) when the letter is found in the middle of a word like "water" or "metal." But words that end in -tage (advantage/percentage/shortage), I'll mostly say a very soft /d/ sound. Also, I tend to must the T sound in words like "adjective" as well. This is mostly a Wes-thing. You may be able to listen for it in some of the other lessons. 😃👍
