Two great non diesel engines vids in a row! I think there are techs who get it and those who pretend to get it. Tone gets it and has no attitude at all. He is willing to share his knowledge with the world. Tone is most definitely the best at what he does. He is an example of how to be a master technician. Excellent job Tone!
Bill you truly are a wonderful human, thank you for the continued support. I made this video because I have made the mistake of taking this a part not knowing about the tools needed because I mean hey it is just a timing cover. I have seen several techs take this a part and put it back together 2 or 3 times until getting it right. Thank you for watching.
On a 'home made' silicone gasket, here is what we do in the aircraft industry. Use a little silicone on the part you want sealed, with a small paintbrush flatten this out to a nice uniform dept, the use a nylon thread and place this all along the inside area( between the bolt holes and dowels) all the way around, let it tack up firm, then install the valve cover, the nylon thread will add a extra bead to the seal, that the oil cannot get through
We use Alldata in the shop but we have commercial use, multi vehicle platform. Message me on Instagram I am partnering with a e manual company and can get that info for you with a discount code.

I am actually not sure, and I am now hurt with an ankle injury. I will not be back in the shop for at least 3 months. it is less then 8 hours I believe. Thanks for watching.
nice video over all. if the cam is locked from rotating and the timing chain is on......is the crank not locked as well? are we holding back up just to keep from damaging the timing components and not necessarily to keep the engine from spinning?
The crank should be up against a pin in the block, this pin only keeps it from turning one direction though. You are keeping the engine in time, because then you have to get balancer on for the crank sensor
@hm…and I need all these tools, and another person to hold the balancer , it’s a lot headache, on the other hand if I don’t do it right, I can junk the engine, so this is a very sensitive operation. Maybe I can find a shop, it’s a lot of headache.
It’s like this: I think I ca do it , it looks kinda difficult, but let me see if anyone else did it, that way I can have an idea, and then a see your video, and I’m like f@4k that , I’m not touching it.
@@NutsandBoltswithTone Dang, too bad you're in Ca, I'm in Florida & I simply DON'T trust getting my car in hock with someone who will want to rip me off
@@NutsandBoltswithTone No unfortunately I'm in North Central Florida, QUICK question, I have around 130,000 miles on mine, bought new, it APPEARS the engine mount bolts INTO the timing cover, is that correct? I had my engine mount replaced maybe 40K latter than it should of been, 1) do you think that vibration of a worn out engine mount could of caused damage TO the timing cover or loosened the mount bolts to the block? 2) OR the installer did damage TO the cover installing the engine mount that would cause the leak? 3) Worse case scenario do you think I should buy a factory timing cover IN ADVANCE of having the leak repaired in case I need a new one? 4) Have you ever seen a issue where the cover would need to be repaired?
@@dok2304 he helped me a lot! I couldn’t have made it through without him. As long as you don’t turn the engine before doing all the alignment stuff it should be fine. Which requires reinstalling the pulley THEN turning the engine until you are at TDC and your cams are lined up to accept the tool. Amazingly I was literally at TDC just by chance.
@ if I don’t seal it properly it will leak( lot of places to seal, around the holes, and around the cover..), if I don’t torque it properly then it will leak, if I don’t torque the balancer the way he said, and it moves, then I will mess up something and get check engine . I’m sure it help you , but it scares the crap out of me to touch it .

So if I pulled off the crank pulley without timing it am I screwed?

You just have to buy the kit, remove valve cover and time the engine
Is it possible to loosen chain with cover on? Need to adjust camashaft timing 😅
I do not think so
