Ramsgate beach 'cliff top' to 'sea front' lift (elevator)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 вер 2008
- This traction lift travels from the cliff top to the sea front. Motor room is on the ground floor (see end of movie).
Lucky I filmed this when I did, as the next day it was out of service!
Filmed whilst on holiday at the beach. When I noticed this lift, I had to check it out! Looks like quite a landmark.
I love this. still!
You are right about the telephones, but the alarm button is normally linked to a phone line. Press the alarm button and it will dial either a national helpline (like Kone) or it will dial security in the building. Most lifts you can see a dotted grid cut into the Car Op.Panel which contains a speaker and microphone, so you'll not see an actual telephone.
This still looks really nice even though the logic was sadly replaced with lester controls and those buttons were probably replacements as well
There were once 3 in Ramsgate, one past the harbour - it still exists but isn't operating, the other which looked a lot like this one, was demolished with the Marina pool below the Granville theatre/cinema. Then there were the two of the steepest funiculars in the UK at Margate and Broadstairs - of which we're trying to save from further neglect or demolition
Lovely to see them back working as they were derelict for years.
It is an unusual sound, and I don't hear this sound very often. But this is definately a traction lift.
If you like a trip to Margate in the UK then check it out!
@misshhorchid Just a normal one, but the traction motor is on the ground floor
You can see the speaker grid very briefly at 1:13 between alarm button and floor indicator
It is an unusual one! Thanks for the comment.
I actually think this is a bottom drive traction because since this lift/elevator was built in the 1910s this was made before hydraulic systems were avalible so this could very well be a bottom drive traction system
To find it, type "elizabeth road, ramsgate, uk" into Google earth. This is a road that is just north of the lift, so scroll down until you see the beach. Just above beach you can see a turning circle with cars parked around it. The lift is in the 11 o'clock position from the middle of the turning circle. All you can see is a small stone coloured domed roof. Doesn't look much, you can see the long shadow to the right.
Coordinates to find it exactly are:
51' 19'57.37"N
1' 25'25.70"E
watch?v=ZeJIUCfPQ0Q
You can see it at 3:16. In the second photo it's still there.
Can't see why they would want to remove it, would be difficult to do so anyway as the lift shaft is built into the shops below.
Should be still there.
Video was taken in the summer last year (2008)
There was a sign on the bottom floor above the call button was that those signs saying not to use it during a fire or was it something else
You can see the car turning circle at 2 seconds, and almost the lift roof at 5 seconds.
Cool!
motor sounds like the wadsworth one on my video
Really, where did you see this video? (watch?v= _____ ).
We are going back there in a couple of months, so I will check it out.
the motor makes a weird sound....i have never heard a so loud traction elevator...
wait a second... anyone see Chay in this video?? i cant.
Good point, I remember that me and Chay went back here and this time I filmed it with him. Forgot all about it, wonder if I still have the footage?
What year was it installed
+Cazkumali Sorry not sure. I would guess originally installed in 70s/80s, and probably modernised in the 2000's.
mrmattandmrchay no, this lift was originally installed in 1910 and then replace in the 70s with a Wadsworth
So is this one: =gT-9oAcV-M4
It's called an 'inclinator'.
what kind of elevator is this?
I wonder when it was installed?
1920's
@@Ribena59p It's been modernised since then.
Is a bottom traction?
+Yang Johnson Yep, the motor room is right next to the lift on the lower level.
this is a buttom drive traction
lol
This is a hydraulic elevator.
+Yang Johnson Hi. Nope! It's definitely a traction. Someone else has since filmed the motor room and I've seen it.
that fucking lift is always out of service.
