Hey Koss, I have been trying to buy your masterpieces but unable to do so. Any way I can buy it immediately or any kind of notification when the art goes on etsy?
imagine spending hundreds and thousands of hours perfecting the traditional way of blade making just to see some guy with a grinder make the same thing in half the time.
@@thekalakid The way they make them. They choose only the best grade of iron from thousands possible. Mix it with carbon, heat it up straight for couple of days and then choose again the greatest grade possible. The way they fold the steel into the sword, the way they sharpen them, the way they are hardening them. The way high carbon steel and low carbon steel are evenly distributed over the weapon guarantees flexibiliy, hardness and sharpness. It's just amazing. I'm almost 100% sure knife made with traditional asian(mostly japanese) methods would just cut the knives knifemakers are making in half without too much effort.
@@ugandan216 I love Japan sword making but there are many types of modern steel which can make Japan traditional swords and steel feel like butter. Do not get me wrong but some ways to make a "perfect Japan sword" are obsolete. Japanese sword masters are spending hours and hours with their steel just because it is complete trash full of sand and otehr weird stuff after they make it.
@ugandan - oh no, not the old “magic Japanese traditional sword can cut anything” nonsense. Traditional Japanese swords are forge welded out of many folded layers of steel due to the poor quality tamahagane “bloomery” steel they end up with out of a tatara once smelting is complete. This is because they were making their steel out of poor quality iron sand deposits, so the smiths were literally having to pound all the crap out of the steel during forging the blade. The flexibility you refer to is due to the most common construction ending up with a core of softer iron clad with a harder steel edge, and it’s that differential hardening that forms the curve of a katana blade when it is quenched. Yes, a traditional katana is a beautiful object, and was deadly in combat for its period and against the type of armour worn, but a katana made from a modern high carbon powder metallurgy tool steel would likely trounce a traditional katana in terms of toughness, edge retention and cutting power.
Awesome work. Just one question what is the brush you are using on your disc grinder ? Looking for something like that for ages, but never found something decent.
Excellent grind, especially the tip...Perfect symmetry!! What is the length? Love the simple finish and the scales matched beautifully. Always a pleasure to see how you approach and finish a project with masterful hand work! Thanks Koss!! Please stay safe and healthy! ~PJ
The previous FeCl3 turns the metal completely black, then he puts the blade in a tumbler with small pebbles, and by spinning it, the pebbles worn out some of the black but in a random way so the result is that kind of old blade look.
08:30 Hunh, WD40...? What's he.... 08:40 Ohhhh dang. Lowes is closed. All I need is the pcv and I'm stone washing like you buddy. Nice share! You turned my night into a Christmas eve lol.

I just started watching your videos tonight and they are amazing man it makes me want to start building knives. The only thing I could said to help you out is maybe try to find a way to mask your breathing somehow because it sounds a little weird in fast forward on the videos 😂 it sounds like you’re sprinting at Mach speed 😂 but I really like your videos keep it up. Also do more videos about making knives out of old tools and such those are things other people can try out themselves
I love it. Love tanto blades and this one is really beautiful. Love the colour and the stone wash on it. And the handle is perfect. Just take my money, I want that one !!

At 8:41 you have the knife in a drum with some sort of material and spin it around using a drill. What does this do? I genuinely have no idea.
The previous FeCl3 turns the metal completely black, then he puts the blade in a tumbler with small pebbles, and by spinning it, the pebbles worn out some of the black but in a random way so the result is that kind of old blade look.

Какой от него эффект?
не с углём, а с камнями. создаёт эффект старости или что-то типа того. присмотрись к лезвию до этого барабана и после.
