In 1929, the Royal Gorge Bridge was built in just six months and remained one of the world's tallest suspension bridges for 72 years. Have you ever taken a stroll across its wooden walkway?

+Smithsonian Channel I did when I was a kid and we were headed to California from Arkansas.. :)
Going to the Gorge tomorrow, haven't been since I was a teen. I've lived here in Denver my whole life. I love this state and always will.
Me too i went a week ago AMAZING
Been here when I was in the springs circa 1997. Did everything possible living there. 7 falls, garden of the gods, royal gorge, pikes peak, Denver, hiking, long road trips, just an amazing state. Moving back this year....
@TheOriginalBleachX That's pretty much just in Denver. Most of Colorado is still nice.
Was just there last week. Incredible views from the bridge and tram. The cable cars are all new for this year as well.
Live 3 hours from it. I was just here last month. Lol love it. Scary to walk across. Very nerve racking haha.
I went here when I was 13 and I had a lot of fun
Miss Royal Gorge. Was there in 2001-03. Beautiful.
I am a NY native but have lived in CO since 06. I walked across that in 09 when I was pregnant with my daughter. Looking at it I cant believe I walked across it as I am deathly afraid of heights. My daughter isn't, she gets excited about thrill rides,we couldn't be more different. Crazy kid!
It's also a favorite for the suicidal.
Arizona river is a new one one me. Clearly the scriptwriters used the abbreviation "AR," and the guy read it as Arizona.
Have lived in CO two different times and love the country
miss living in Colorado so much
Never zipped lined across but I hear it's a blast. I know one of the people that run the line and assures me it's safe and an experience you will never forget.
Made one day but not today lol
The Arkansas River, runs trough the Royal Gorge.
i was wondering if anyone else picked up on that!
I've been there! 😮
I was there in May 2018. Walking across the bridge was a buzz. You could see right through the gaps in the wooden roadway through to river 1,000 feet below. It really shook and rattled when the ranger drove past in his truck.
I've been there and it was the best!
OMG I have been to the top of pikes peak...the altitude made me sick...I love colorado though My mom was born there...In Pueblo:)
I was born in Loveland CO
We were there in 2003 and I want to come again. Hopefully in future and soon.
Was there in 1970-station at Lowry AFB, Denver, Col
I went in 94 as a child can’t wait to take my family
lucky me i live really close to there and my grandparents live even closer
Too bad it's so expensive or I would go back. I went with my parents on vacation and it cost about $60-$70 per person. It's so scary! The wood pops up when the car drives across, and you can see the bottom through the panels. Loved it!
That's not expensive at all though. There's a 150 ft bungee jump near me and it costs the same price :P
oh, hell no
It's the Arkansas river, not Arizona.
Linda Johnson He said Arkansas river
0:15 "Arizona River Canyon" 1:05 "Arkansas River" - I heard him call it by Two different names .
“...Arizona river...” thanks Smithsonian
Arizona, Arkansas, whatever. Both are state names that begin with "A" and have four syllables. Close enough for most Americans. They did get it correct after that.
Splendid, though I'm a bit thrown by the differing boardwalk / pavement surfaces. There are not two bridges, are there?
Is it better to go there during spring or fall?
If you want even bigger thrills come rafting with us instead of watching the action on the train or bridge.
One thing I want to do bit haven't YET!
Was there back in 1970
OH MH GOD IT WAS ON THE SMITHSONIAN CHANNEL WOW
I’m there right now swear
Did the narrator mess up he did call it an Arizona River canyon did he mean to say Arkansas River canyon?
Wonderful documentary, save the incorrect pronunciation of "Arkansas River" during the intro.
@TheOriginalBleachX Yeah, he did call it an Arizona river canyon. If it weren't in Colorado, there might be ambiguity in his statement, but I can see none here.
isn't it the Arkansas river, and not the Arizona?
I noticed that same error at the start. No Arizona river near Royal Gorge!
I’ve been there
It’s the Arkansas River
Sadly most of this park burn down with the fires is 2013. I think is mostly back up and open just recently.
Arizona River? Not to many times you hear the narrator obviously mess up lol
Yeah, he should get his info correct
You would think the Smithsonian would get the name of the river correct..smh
was thinking of going this Saturday March 18 2017 who wants to join?
Nope I'm a wimp and going to stay that way. Oh Hell No! LOL 😂
