  • I may have forgotten to put the picture of the book up. Sorry about that. These are the things I got out of this book the most.

Great video! I actually have this book. My godmother gave it to me 5 years ago before I left for my first year of college since Mortimer J. Adler was a professor at my school (the University of Chicago). I still haven't gotten around to reading it yet... but this video definitely makes me want to pick it up sometime soon.

+The Adventuring Bookworm That's cool. I wish I would have read this book before I went to college, especially grad school. I would have had a much easier time in grad school if I learned how to "properly" read a non-fiction book.

Many great points to take home. It is interesting thing to look at differences in my reading when i read non-fictional book for pleasure or for class. I should try to read more deeply even when i read it for no reason. These tips articulate many things i do or attempt to do but there are some that are new for me.

+lukunurkka It's always nice to be reminded to do something that should be done once in awhile because sometimes I fall into bad habits of not doing things I know I should do. Glad you liked the video and you got something out of it. =)

I really want to start marking up my books. Especially underlining in non fiction. This was great, I am so interested in reading books like this!!

+time to read! Yah, I really like books like this too. What I am most looking for is some book that talks about an author's writing style and how to describe it properly. I haven't really run across anything like that yet though.

Hmmm...have you tried On Writing by Stephen King? I haven't read it but I have heard a bunch of people on here talking about it. Not sure if that is what it is like though..

I read On Writing last year and it was amazing. I loved it. Not quite what I'm thinking of but there are some nuggets in there of what I am.

+tarabyt3 Yah, I either try to be one of the first people to read a book or I wait awhile to read it. I have Uprooted as well and I want some of the ideas from the videos I've watched to disappear some before I read it. I also stop listening to reviews after about 2-3 videos of the same book so I don't overwhelm myself with the ideas that other people have on that book.

Same. It generally works well. :D
