  • Showing some upgraded features on the new panels in contrast to the older 100w 4 panel set and the older 45w 3 panel set. Also checking the voltage output of the new 100w panels and connecting the 2 in series to increase voltage. (Sorry about the abrupt ending. The cameraman kept sneaking cameos, and then he bumped the power button)

    I want to run some vent fans with a 12v battery and these solar panel.
    If I want to charge a battery what would I need to do with these? Just hook them to the battery? Or would I need something else?

    • @GBear
      @GBear  6 місяців тому +1

      Welcome aboard! You would need a solar charge controller for 12v. A 100w panel puts out about 27 volts on its own, and would damage the battery. The charge controller limits that voltage to around 14.2 volts.

      @@GBear I got some ancient ones that took a beating in a Hurricane,not sure how to test them properly,thank you for the video !
      Here's one for you, build a water catchment just for washing the dust off, perhaps a large tank high off the ground for good pressure, an aquarium pump to pump it up hill .
      efficiency by watering them with a squeegee wipe down when you drop 2% from dust cover.
      Perhaps grow some veggies under them in the shade from the water run off the panels ????
      Peace, from Florida!!

      @@joestalin2375 I'll have to do another video on how to test solar panels properly. As far as cleaning them, I use captured rain water to clean them now. I have a pressure pump in the garden house to help the cleaning process, but to grow anything under them would be a waste of time. I tried growing in the open when I first got out here, plants and trees were gone within a week, the critters out here got to them. My garden house is completely encased in aviary wire with 1/2 inch openings, so insects can get in, but critters can't.

    Impressive 100-watt panels you have there Mr. GBear, and they are all from Harbor Freight. I do like the old controller. I'm in the market for solar panels, with your help you can coach me through this quest on solar installation?

    • @GBear

      Sure I can. Give me a little more info on what you're planning to run on solar, and I'll help you piece a system together.

      @@GBearI've got a huge 12-volt sealed acid rechargeable battery bank. The panels i want are 8-100-watt panels from Harbor freight, and a 12-volt controller to divert. The distance between the panels and battery bank is 15' feet. I've got a lot of planning to do with plenty of time

    • @GBear
      @GBear  6 місяців тому +1

      @eugeneremmelsjr.2978 so, you're only planning on running some lights and maybe a TV?
      For more efficiency, you can connect the batteries in series parallel for 24v, and connect the panels in series to increase the voltage input, while lowering the amps, so 10 gauge stranded PV wire should work, and allow for adding more panels later.

    • @GBear

      @eugeneremmelsjr.2978 OK, the microwave is a high energy unit, and depending on your computer, it could also be high consumption. My desktop uses a 950 watt power supply, my microwave uses 1800 watts. You will need a larger solar array, and probably battery bank.
      You didn't say how many batteries and what their amp-hour ratings are.

    Today I was getting 21.8v out of one of these. All the others was 20.5. That 21 threw me off. Thought it was kind of odd. I have 4 of them.

    You are just romping in power, cuzzin! (I would say 'swimming in', but water and elec aren't the best of friends, so decided 'romping in' works better) Soak it up, my friend! My helper quit, so I'm having to scale back my focus to try to manage self-preservation tasks only. But sometimes it be's that way. Loving your sun!

      @@ellafields9424 welcome aboard! Solar panels should be purchased after deciding what you plan on running from them. The battery bank is just as important, since it will do the work when the sun doesn't shine. I'll be doing a video soon on how to determine your needs.
