  • Hey Friends... Since we boondock when we stay at the Mountain to work on the mini-cabin, we decided to pick up the Harbor Freight solar panel kit to connect to the camper. We go through from unboxing to hooking it up, with the pretty easy step-by-step instructions. We hope you find it helpful and as always, Be Safe!!

    Good video man. One thing to note is that the charge controller that comes with the kit is a 100 watt charge controller, if you buy the hub and add more panels you will need to get the 500 watt charge controller.

    I have 2 100 watt kits. I run 3 109 amp hour batteries and a 2000 watt inverter. Furnace at night in my trailer is all that runs maybe radio and a light for maybe an hour. I don't like AC so not using that. Charge phone and laptop through the day. May add some USB ports and a 12v socket. I like mine!

    5:40 Youre measing the voltage, not the watts. Watts are volts multiplied with the current the panels are putting out. 22ish volts open circuit is spot on for a "12V" panel.
    7:30 Btw you might want to use fuses as close to the battery as possible to avoid your RV burning down, when theres a short in the cables down the line.
    Thank you for the honest review, sir.

      Would you say splicing into the battery cable? What kind of fuse?

      @@samanosukeakechi4388 I’m thinking the cord coming from the panels, but since it isn’t my comment not sure exactly what they meant. They make inline fuses, 30 amp or so that you could use. Hope that helps. Be Safe and God Bless..

    I have the same panels. They have been great here in Florida. I am Considering getting the folding 100w panel Thunderbolt. Regardless, the glass panels definitely perform better. Great review

    they are decent starter kits we have had two for years and they still work ok but if you want to run AC you will need tons of battery and tons of panels to recharge it lol.....seems like the CC was sensing the battery close to full so it was float charging thats why you may not have seen the battery meter scrolling. either way good luck!

      Thanx for checking us out and for the comment. Agree 100% if we want to run the A/C we have to get more batteries. Will probably just wait until the mini cabin is finished or closer to finished to buy some big ones. Be safe!!

    Its not a bad setup. You can get additional panels and a another 400 watt connector. With that you could add more panels and batteries. I would prolly go with something a little better, but if you are running a few lights and a small load it might not be too bad

    My question is, will this setup run a fridge or any bigger appliances?

    • @watavuemountain481
      @watavuemountain481  11 місяців тому

      I don’t think it will. Maybe charge some small electronics or run a fan. You’d have to have it charging a battery bank for that. God Bless!!

    Good Job Cuz, it will work fine to charge the battery. It will take more batteries and panels to power the mini cabin and the cabin when you get there. Happy Veterans Day...

    A single 100 watt panel would be less that half the size of those four panels.

      Very true, however, with the charge controller it would be a bit more expensive and for this application we weren’t worried about the space. Thanx for the comment. Be Safe and God Bless!!
