    Matthew is a walking miracle for sure. I’m so grateful that everyone involved worked so carefully and fastidiously for him.

      ER medicine is a young person’s game. It’s a brutal environment so by the time staff gets older they tend to gravitate elsewhere.

    That absolutely convinces me not to have a home bee hive. Been thinking about it. We have a wonderful bee place here that sells all the cute outfits and special modern hives so it’s tempting. I have loads of bee flowers and loads of bees buzzing around, so I think I’ll leave it at that. Just put a cute little fountain near their spot so they can get a wee drink if they need it. Love bees 🐝

    Mathew! Wow! I have worked on so many patients that have had massive heart failures and no matter we do they die and while you are working on them their heart and brain is fighting you to die. This is truly amazing to come back from this

    How do they know what type of blood to give?

    • @lucyhall9929
      @lucyhall9929 Рік тому +4

      I work in blood transfusion. In an emergency we can give blood and blood components that are 'universal donors' which means they can be given to any blood type. Once the patients blood type is known after testing we can then give more specific blood to match the patient which reduces the risk of complications.

    Can someone explain why they don’t give a painkiller or numbing agent when they put in a chest tube? I realize on the patient here, it didn’t matter as he was already unconscious, but I’ve seen them do it on patients that are awake.

    • @MABchevy
      @MABchevy Рік тому +1

      It’s a lifesaving procedure. More times than not by the time the patient gets a numbing agent or anesthesia they can be dead

      @@kylieknight2365 thank you for the explanation! I have another question but no obligation to answer i am just curious!! If cardiac arrest occurs due to blood loss would rapid transfusion be an option to attempt to raise the blood volume for a resuscitation and maybe effective ROSC? Or if a PT arrests due to massive blood loss it's already too late? (Cause of cause of bleeding, likely down time etc) sorry to ask just very curious!

      It’s something that Australians say.
      If I was to call an ambulance I’d also say “yeah I’m happy to go with them”.
      It means everyone is in agreement. Not that they’re happy about the situation.

      No it's not strange. WHen he said that the poor man had already gone as they had been going 20 mins. Even if you were revived after 20 the lack of oxygen has already caused potential brain damage within 2 minutes. So he calls it as in Time Of Death. It's tragic though.

      I'm no medical professional but she wasn't dealing with any open wounds or infectious sites that would spread any bacteria around. It's not the same as the OR where you have to have a sterile environment. If you think about the stretchers rolling in and out, all the people that aren't Dr's or nurses around, patients own clothing and personal hygiene etc there's so much contamination in an ER naturally anyway.
