First time I have seen an IFR-VFR on top vid. thanks for posting. Really enjoy watching your vids. Have my IFR written scheduled for Saturday and an learning/remembering a lot by watching your flights.

Well I passed! I hate these FAA tests, but I passed so I’m prepping for my checkride oral while I get these next 10 hours XC and 18 hours simulated or true instrument. Keep posting these good videos!👍🏽

Amazing video. Subscribed! Quick question, once you cancel your IFR do you automatically stay with them for Flight Following did you request that earlier? If they did tell you to squawk VFR and change freqs but you wanted to stay on with flight following, you could just call back up and ask, right? Thanks!

Thank you for subscribing and for the great question! When you cancel IFR, you’re typically transitioned to VFR flight following automatically if you’re still in contact with ATC and in radar coverage. If ATC tells you to squawk VFR and change frequencies, it usually means they no longer need to provide services for your flight, but you can always request flight following again if needed. Just check in with them and provide your location and intentions. Safe flying! ✈️

Thanks for simplifying this technique. Curious question- if you have established a destination, why not keep IFR all the way especially if a MOA is enroute?

Great question, Steve! - 2 reasons.
      1. It was a beautiful sunny day, and I personally prefer flying VFR over IFR in beautiful conditions (IFR is very restrictive in nature)
      2. If the MOA is active, ATC will often have you cancel IFR and continue VFR. So flying IFR the entire way would potentially turn into VFR anyway down the line.
Ultimately, I just wanted to punch through the thin cloud layer covering the airport and continue to my destination VFR. I determined that a full blown IFR flight would be overkill on this one. This is why I often refer to these things as “TOOLS” in our pilot toolbox. Even tho the IFR tool is available to me, it’s up to me, the pilot, to determine which tool is most appropriate for the circumstance.

Roger that. As a recent Cirrus owner and IFR cert recipient, I find your content to be extremely helpful. Keep it coming!

You got it! And congrats on both the cirrus and IFR cert

Do you need an IFR certified to do an IFR- VFR on top approach. Please advise

Yes. As you are essentially IFR for that portion (until you cancel)
