Nicholas Meyer wasn't a Star Trek fan. During his research, he figured out what the fans found appealing and how to appeal to non-fans. He was respectful of the source material and the audience. You know, a professional.

The same did Tony Gilroy a non SW fan that went to SW experts and asked them advice about the lore cause he had a idea about telling how the rebellion started and how the rebels stole the Deathstar's blueprints.
And this non SW fan made the best movie and best TV series about SW made under Disney control of Lucasfilm

When I looked at the trailer, a couple of minutes after it launched, it had a little over 4000 views, over 250,000 likes and around 2500 dislikes.
Disney paid UA-cam for a quarter million likes.
This whole situation sums up Disney Star Wars. They are congratulating themselves on "record views" while the trailer is getting mocked and memed all over the internet 🤣
That “there’s no good or evil” bit from both the trailer and cast interviews serves as prime example that they absolutely do not fundamentally understand Star Wars. It’s like they’re trying to pretend they’re on the level of Karen Traviss’s Republic Commando books or Drew Karpyshyn’s Darth Bane books, except Traviss and Karpyshyn actually wrote characters you actually liked even despite doing different things with the universe without breaking it, or even pretending they’re making something like Mobile Suit Gundam with the “grey morality” except DOING IT WRONG. And really I don’t know how anyone can still support Disney Wars as a universe when it ultimately ends with our heroes dead, their children dead, and the overall state of the galaxy as more flatlined than the country of Libya, Lord knows Lucas himself doesn’t seem to care either so why should we. Star Wars is dead, the dream is dead, time to burn the pyre where it stands whilst remembering the actual good entries from the only 6 films and EU stories and to build up something else in its place.

Someone never read Darth Bane or Darth Plagueis. Clearly stories about the Sith and their point of view was written before. You snowflakes didn’t complain before.

Major problem with Star Wars fans. They are mostly older white males who grew up with Star Wars from the 70's. No attempt has been made to really engage any newer generations. As a result the fan base is declining due to a lack of interest by the older white male fan base exacerbated by them inconveniently dying off. At this point it is unlikely anyone will be able to connect newer/younger fans with Star Wars since the best products of the property are over 40 years old. It will continue to decline in fan interest and value. Maybe, 10 years or so from now with KK, Bobby Iger and Harvey's PA have died of old age a new crop of film producers will resurrect the franchise but I doubt it.
I think Lucas "signed off" on what Disney is doing because he wants it to die. He visibly hated the first 2 sequels, and he didn't even attend the premiere for Rise Of Skywalker.
Star Wars consists of Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi...everything else is just a weird fever dream!!!

I'm 60. I wear rose coloured glasses all the time, and I love the look of it. Yes they messed up the writing on the last 3 main movies, and Boba could have been much better and dark. I'm still going to watch it with my nostalgia glasses one.

When you start thinking of all the new Star Wars, Marvel and Disney stuff as just crappy fan fiction, it all actually makes sense. The writing, SFX, acting, casting of self-inserts etc etc.

One of the things I’ve noticed, is that even my friends that have no knowledge of the source material can even tell that these movies are just pandering the shows too. Obi-Wan was abysmal, but I had no idea that they were going to keep regurgitating this kind of crap even after being mocked by everybody. And I’m flabbergasted that they just keep attacking the fans.

As always, and this has been a consistent view that you've shared, it's not about the culture war, it's about the writing. It's horrible. Far too many people, on both sides of the culture war, make this about being "woke." That's not the problem. They only make things worse by insisting that the problem is "the message." This whole misdiagnosis of the problem has not only given Disney an alibi for its bad and lazy writing it has also produced ardent defenders of Disney. I personally could care less what race or gender anyone is in star wars, it's all fantasy and aliens anyway. But the problem isn't necessarily the trailer, the dislikes I think come from people who know about the director and writer issues as well as the stuff the actors have said about the show, how the best thing about star wars is there is no good or evil and such. The problem is we know WHY Disney is doing the diversity stuff and we know that it's put above good story telling or anything. They get these people who know nothing about the IP and who haven't had projects this big to make these ambitious stories. It's like asking someone who knows nothing about WW2 to make a WW2 movie
It’s not nostalgia bating. They could do setups for things that just appeared in the Star Wars movies. They could go through the struggles of the Jedi mastering The Force, their struggles with powerful Sith and their Rule of Two, creation of first light sabers and early failures, how they found Jedi candidates, their struggles with political powers before they were so powerful, learning to avoid The Dark Side, was there more a bunch of Force users instead of The Light and The Dark, and another thousand things that are part of Star Wars.
What do you mean struggling with Sith and the Rule of Two? They're not supposed to know they still exist, everything else you mentioned happened thousands of years ago

The writer, who never saw Star Wars, is how we ended up with what's causing them to get ripped all over the internet. Ki-Adi's exclamation in TPM about the Sith having "been extinct for a millennium," is completely ruined with the addition of a Sith in The Acolyte. This story takes place only a century before TPM, so Yoda will have certainly been aware of what's going to happen with this story. That's just one of the many things that is helping to destroy the brand.

I hate what Disney has been doing to Star Wars since it bought it but I still pay for Disney+ because it has some good stuff like The Bear, Only Murders in the Building and Shogun. You just wonder why they cannot find writers like that for their Marvel- and Star Wars- movies and -shows.
I have a certain problem with everything that has come out of Star Wars on TV and film after the prequel trilogy, I am more of an EU fan than shows like The Clone Wars (I didn't like it, it seemed very "childish" to me most of the time, and not for been animated, a like animation but not the one in this and not the plot), so I always expected them to do something related to the EU, perhaps a series about the old republic, ideal in Revan's time, but it never happened, they decided to exploit as much as possible the period between Episode 2 and 4, telling increasingly more far-fetched stories that no longer felt so similar to the EU lore, which is much more similar to that of the original trilogy, especially Empire Strikes Back, and also somewhat darker and similar to that of the prequels.
But when Disney took the reins everything went to hell and nothing feels like Star Wars, I have to say that I have seen it all (at least the live-action, I was not captivated by the 3D designs of the series or with how softened and forced the plot felt, so Clone Wars was my limit, I didn't watch Rebels and the others), and every time I watch a new series I find new levels of disappointment XD, I think Andor was the best in terms of series, but still so it didn't feel part of the original canon that included the EU and that ended up taking me even more away from Disney's Star Wars, so the truth is that I have 0 expectations for The Acolyte and I think I will not continue with Star Wars as long as Disney is the owner of the IP.
Congratulations Disney, you have already destroyed the hopes of another fan.

I am the old white guy that somehow is at fault for everything. I loved Ripley in Aliens. I love Michonne in TWD. I think Lynda Carter and Gal Gaddot were the perfect Wonder Women. Jay I would have to say that Disney has had no clue what to do with Star Wars since the day they bought it and showed the lack of creativity when they released The Force Awakens which was nothing more then a New Hope Version 2.0...Putting aside all the other things...Looking at this trailer can you honestly say to me that you know what is going on it in and an idea of what the story is about.? I have no idea and all i got from this trailer is MEH...To which I also down voted it..This show will be dead on arrival not only cause there is no story but it will also be going up against House of the Dragon which will premiere in June as well...Also if I am correct the fact the Acolyte takes place roughly 100 years before Phantom Menace contradicts the Line from the movie were the Jedi Council states "The Sith have been extinct for over a Millennia "....I have said it before and I will say it again...Disney Star Wars is nothing but bad fan fiction..
