Even by today's standards, over 53 years later, this would be a great programme, showing great football with great commentary and great analysis.
I was a few days past my fourth birthday when that match was played but there is something about 1970 that draws me: a new decade, colour television in its infancy, legal LSD in everyone's pockets, narrow lapels, simple smart round-neck team shirts and transitional hairstyles!
Thank you so much for these uploads. Much appreciated.
Two kits that were the "Dog's Bollocks" of kits in the 1970s. In particular that West Ham away kit.
Best subbuteo kits too! And man City away.
That hammers top is my favourite one.
Thank you for this. Great football times great players
Chilling feeling watching the Scottish League Cup Final coverage and realising this was only a couple of months before the Old Firm Match that became the Ibrox Disaster. 😢
I remember the headlines-a more sobering thought is that (certainly in England and most likely in Scotland) it was seen as "Just one of those things" and seriously dangerous grounds were allowed to carry on until the 90's-it taking more disasters for the penny to finally drop. Have to say 100% admired Rangers (not a club I'm a fan of btw) for rebuilding Ibrox after the disaster with the simple safety remit that it would never happen again. Football wise-Jock Stein's legendry Celtic and a hugely talented Rangers (who won the CWC the next season) were actually the ENVY of most English football fans !
How much more faster & intense the game was back then. Jimmy Greaves immaculate passing even on the lash were sublime.
Thanks for posting ⚒
One of the surprises from the Palace v West Ham game was seeing Jimmy Greaves taking so many corners ! And it was great to see the ball being placed actually IN the quadrant, unlike nowadays where players try to pinch every last millimetre - and more most of the time ! 🤬
Wow, brilliant goal by the great Tony Brown, but what was wrong with the first Utd goal?? (Apart from Denis Law mysteriously being 10 yards offside of course.)
Blimey, that ref had it in for Palace. Great football, cheers.
The kits were so much better without all the flair.
Got the T-shirt, McCormick and Blyth were a rock in the centre of defense. This was when it was a contact sport and you were allowed to tackle.
To this day the sight of Trevor Brooking just gliding across the field leaving players in his wake is a thing of sporting beauty.
Pity he didn't play in this match.

Great to see Rangers beat Celtic in the Scottish League Cup Final!
Can't beat the70s ,great players great football.
What a difference it was then, no screaming women commentators, no Gary " jug ears" Lineker just good old Brian Moore, wish those days could return
Best Palace strip ever and best Irons' strip ever .
I ❤ watching a Good London Derby 😎👊🏽
The intro music reminds me of a 70s game show...Dave from Dagenham,Marj from Manchester and Andrew from Aberdeen. 😂
The weight of the ball made for better football.
Good point 👍
Steins shot was over the line….!!🤷♂️
That Ref was a Hammers fan
most of the population are hammers fans, Why? cos we're massive 😁
@@hairyhandsharry5991 I do have a soft spot for the Irons. How hairy are your hands harry?
Asa Hartford wore white boots, same type as Alan Ball.
So in 1971 Scottish Television were actually still covering matches using a single 16mm film camera? And they used to slag off Tyne Tees for being behind the times...
There was so much potential in that 1970 United team - 5 or 6 great players. Then they lost John Fitzpatrick to injury, a largely forgotten disaster now I think, and of course failed to buy the players they needed to compete at the top again.
Why did Palace have the numbers so high on the back of their shirts?
Doe's it really matter, who cares
Because they couldn't place them any lower.
£78000.. outrageous cost; where will it end !!

Dirty Palace.
Dic*head comment.
The standard of football is horrendous and Steve kimber kicked me out of palace
West Ham tried to get into the Palace end on the day and took the biggest hiding they've ever had.
The only hiding you did was hiding from all other supporters ; )
Rangers !
