    Incredible how this level of high speed travel on such a nice train, even if it is not the newest model, is so cheap! From just 29 Euros for such a long trip is a steal! As a UK resident I am a bit jealous. We would pay about three times that much for a journey of similar length on a much slower and less luxurious train.

    • @NonstopEurotrip
      @NonstopEurotrip  2 роки тому

      Agreed, these are cracking trains. They can get expensive if you book last minute though 🙂

    • @johannesschiele1513
      @johannesschiele1513 Рік тому

      to put it in perspective:
      If you book your tickets longer in advance (up to 6 months max.) you can get pretty cheap tickets, even in first class. But if you decide on the day or you have to take the train last minute it can get quite expensive. But I guess that relates to most means of fast transportation.
      Just as an example I booked a train ticket for my summer vacation from Würzburg to Munich and back for 17€ each in first class, so 34€ in total. It should be a ride about 2,5 hours and that's nearly unbeatable for my personal taste.
      Greetings from across the sea =)

What was called Berlin Hbf from 1987 to 1998 is now the Berlin Ostbahnhof. It was originally the main train station for East Berlin in the Communist era. If you noticed, this train actually went on to the Ostbahnhof, since there is no place to store out-of service trains at the Hbf.

    For a 5 hour trip I would consider 1 st class with its amenities essential ( I have a four level fusion in my lumbar spine). Looks like a fun trip. I was impressed with the cleanliness and everything being fully stocked.To show how advanced some countries are in China we travelled Shanghai to Huibai in 4 hours which is just over 1200 kms. Germany has some faster routes - for example the newly improved Munich-Berlin relation. Stuttgart-Cologne in 2h is also a good deal for over 350km. Nowhere near 1200km of course. Germanys geography and population density makes faster trains not very economically feasible. The first IC-Experimental went well over 400KpH back in the day in testing, though, so its not a lack of technical ability 😁

With a little planning you can get decent prices for first class and enjoy the ride even more. Haven't visited him since they started running ICE4s on this line. Pandemic and stuff... :)

Despite the fat I was travelling 2nd class before, I went straight for the seat in a 1st class compartment. As some of my co-,passengers went for a local train instead of waiting for replacment, and the train I was originally on was much shorter,I got the whole compartment for myself. If this train can travel well over 200km/h, then I'm confused about the reason that it takes seven hours to complete the 700km journey! It averages to 100km/h which is not all that high speed for a high speed train. Perhaps, because this is not an express train and it takes plenty of time with the stops in between? And it doesn't hit those high speeds because there is no need with this particular run? Price is really good.

    • @NonstopEurotrip
      @NonstopEurotrip  2 роки тому +2

      Yes the express part of the ICE names is very much subjective lol. Also I made a slight mistake, 695km is the straight line distance, 883km is the 'rail mileage' 🙏🏻

      @@wkaemena Yes, it comes to around 130km/h average speed. I guess that is good when we consider the train has to stop in between. If there are 20 stops in between and each stop takes 6 minutes, then it comes to 2 hours. Obviously the train does hit high speeds well over 250km/h during the journey, but have to slow down for each stop, curves, etc.

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 2 роки тому +1

      @@ddandrews6472 on many runs the ICE doesn't serve the shortest route. Thus e.g. I remember going from Hamburg Central to Regensburg Central few years ago; I was ready a few hours earlier and simply hopped onto the next ICE heading south, but although it left an hour earlier than the ICE I originally planned to take, it would have arrived more than an hour later for going throughout the entire Ruhr metro area instead of going the shorter and quicker route further east.
      As you pointed out the number of stops in between play quite a role as well. Also depends on if the train runs on seperate high speed tracks or mixed service tracks; If they're unlucky to have a slower category train ahead which they might not be able to overtake it will go the same speed for quite a while

    I miss the compartments of the new(er) ICE versions, If I have the chance I still pick a seat in a compartment rather than in open space. I never had a bad experience in them and enjoy the privacy and it is usually more quiet as well (in my experience at least). I understand that they take up a lot of space in the train and that the DB and everyone else makes more money with getting as much people as possible into the trains, but I still miss compartments. Maybe it's my age and me being an introvert, but I always liked the compartments. Be it on the old regional trains in Germany or later in the ICE 1 and later areas, I also prefered the original seats in the old models. Anyway times change, but as someone who grew up in a small town and used trains every day to get to work in the next bigger city and in a family without car, public transport was always used, I just miss the old compartment trains and old ICE design and layout.

      @@NonstopEurotrip The problem that both CEOs and the government are more focused on cars than on trains. The genius that is Ronald Pofalla (former CEO of the DB company) decided to make the DB more profitable so he REMOVED MORE THAN 1000 TRACK SWITCHES. That is not a joke. He removed thousands of kilometers of bypass rail lines, and fired thousands of staff which are still missing today. You are not living in Germany if you don‘t get ads to work at Deutsche Bahn atleast twice a week. The most genius idea he had though was what he called „Pofalla-Wende“ translating to „Pofalla-Turn“. This happens when a train is severely delayed. The train will just stop at the next station, the train will be assigned another route, all passengers have to disembark because of a fake Technical Failure or something, and at stations the train was supposed to stop the same made up excuse will play over the announcements. Another thing DB likes to do is wait to repair technical damage. There is a law that the government has to pay for the repair something if is is broken to a certain point, meaning DB just waits until it is damaged enough for them not needing to pay the cost of fixing it. Also, we always had Transport Ministers that had something to do with the automobile industry, so they always got more money and funds. Thankfully this is going to change (hopefully) with a new government of the Social Democrat party, the Liberal-Democratic party and the Green Party, meaning that the Conservative party isn‘t governing right now.
