I did this and instead of putting the tiny pins/nails into the back I hot glued all around it. No possibilitiy of accidently breaking the glass.

For the "leading" lines, you can buy liquid lead in small squeeze bottles to use instead of drawing lines. Drys quickly. It also offers the depth and prevents any color run over

I did a massive faux stained glass nativity scene a few years back. Similar techniques,
with different materials. I love the crystal clear color that you achieved using inks to color the clear glue. I filled an ice cube tray with clear glue instead of many cups. Then added tiny amounts of acrylic paint (with tip of a toothpick kind of tiny!) until I achieved colors I wanted. It came out beautiful, but was a lot more time consuming and IMO not as crystal clear as you’ve achieved here with inks in no time at all.

I was thinking that you could use white glue and inks to create milk glass kinds of areas that are translucent rather than transparent , and also using plain glue, dripping in and then swirling ink into the glue for glass that has a more swirled texture to it. Oh, and you could also apply the glue mixture and then use different things like bubble wrap, sponge ,etc to create textured glass sections. I can't wait to try this out.

This is wonderful! My home has some stained glass that’s a mix of clear and semi-opaque, and since I wanted to try that, I did a little experimenting. You can add a tiny bit of cornstarch or chalk dust to make them kind of opaque like a Tiffany work. Also, paint in place of ink makes it very opaque so if you fill an area with a little regularly coloured clear glue, you can swirl in some paint-glue with a brush handle or toothpick or even a small enough brush for a really fun marbled effect

I have seen some people apply rice paper to a window for complete privacy, but you would not be able to look outside... (I think they just wet the paper and/or window and smoothed the paper on, then it would be easy to simply peel off) unless you left a diamond shape in the center or some other type of peep hole.

Wish I was still teaching teenagers, this would be a great art project for them. I can’t remember even one of them that wasn’t into graphic novels and drawing their versions of favorite characters. Many of them drew their own original designs and since the traditional nature of that style is outlined, it would be a great fit. My youngest daughter has a degree in animation and game design. I might have to secretly “borrow” one of her original plates & try my hand at this faux stained glass. I think it would be a great birthday present for her. tfs this idea!

It will be easier to keep clean and when packing away, nothing will cause the artwork to stick to anything touching it and pulling it off the ornament! They also make some nicer glass hinged ornaments, as well.

Us crafters are ‘messy’ or ‘hoarders’ (I’m not talking about worrysome extremes here) by necessity. My own place is tidy by most standards, my floors are clear but I keep a good stash of many different supplies at hand. Who wants having to run to the store for lack of supplies? What if our brain fancies starting one more project to add to the current list of UFOs (unfinished objects)? Aaahhh.... the pitfalls of having a creative and maybe scattered mind....

Thank you. Real stained glass will always be better..but I love how easy this is, beautiful, and I can change it any time I get tired if the design.

I would suggest you remove the cardboard backing before you start painting the colors on the glass. This would allow the colors to stand out more on the white table background. The brown color of the cardboard muddies the colors in your video.

Cute. Maybe I’ll try on a window frame with sections. Like do 4 seasons.
