    Although this microscope is more a novelty item for many of us, I liked the idea of this project, which is to put a low cost microscope into the hands of those who otherwise would have no access to one. In many developing countries, a research optical microscope is as intimidating and expensive (in relative terms) as an electron microscope would be to me. I think Microbehunter even talked about the fear that graduate students might have of doing something wrong and damaging one of these complex machines. I think these little microscopes definitely have a place in the world for educational and even some limited kinds of medical purposes. Buying one defrays the cost of making them more cheaply available to the rest of the world. (Currently, one of the developers, Prakash, has been working on making a low cost and reusable medical mask/shield out of an inexpensive full face snorkeling mask. :-) )

    For $17, I purchased a new Adams compound student microscope with 8x, 20x, and 40x objectives, 10x and 15x eyepieces, a stage moveable with two screws, and a mirror (flat on one side, concave on the other) to direct light up through the stage. No toy is this, but there is a catch. I made the purchase in 1962.

    I love the idea and I understand that it was made for areas where there is no electricity but the price is very high. On ebay you can buy a USB digital microscope that magnifies 1000+ times with less money and free shipping. I just hope that the high price exists to fund a good cause...

      But I understand that the "analog thing", the "real thing" ...gives you another feeling. As its creator said in a video I saw, it feels like seeing the stars through a telescope as opposed to viewing them on a computer screen or a picture. It is different...

      Hi my friend,
      There are official local foldscope distributors in India. You can contact gubbilabs.in/ for future purchases I guess it will cost you much less.
      They have foldscope and also conduct workshops.
      There are currently also live workshops to attend. This is my tweeter @muhamedsci if you wish to contact, feel free.
      Regards.

    Is a short focal length lens,
    Like the glass beads of Lie Wenhuk.
    If you want to reduce the cost as long as a convex lens is ok. This jam is not necessary

    Thanks microbehunter for making this video. I personally own a foldscope and have been using it for a pretty long time now. I want to point out to some of your mistakes that you are doing with this microscope. Firstly, you need to put the slide from top of the lens (holding the flap above the slit) and then putting in a slide AND GLASS SLIDES DO WORK. Make sure the label (if pre-prepared) or specimen is as close to the lens as possible. Secondly , you don not have to use single paper slides. You either stack them up with the one with specimen close to the lens OR

    • @RanjanaSingh-ut2hj
      @RanjanaSingh-ut2hj 4 роки тому

      (continuation) you put a glass slide at the back of the paper slide and the put it in the viewing stage as written above. Make sure you have the specimen paper slide facing to the microscope

    hi
    Is it NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC 40X-640X MICROSCOPE a good microscope ?

    • @MicrobehunterMicroscopy
      @MicrobehunterMicroscopy  4 роки тому +2

      It is a toy microscope. Good for children maybe, not good for more serious amateur microscopy. You can not compare a EUR 40 toy microscope with a microscope that costs EUR 250 or more.
