Her enthusiasm about art and life gets me back to my studio after months of inactivity. Thanks Tilda.

“Let’s name it - the meanness of right-wing politics across the planet….I do believe in innate goodness…we were all scared little children once… and I don’t know what happened to them to make them this mean…but we have to find a way of reconnecting with that…” Thank you David for this conversation with Tilda Swinton, brilliant artist, thinker and human being.

The opposite of innate goodness is inhumanity. Man's inhumanity to man = Trump and Trump supporters. You cannot be "for" Trump without acknowledging his basic inhumanity. My opinion.

One of my favorite episodes you've done! Tilda is a joy and a treasure. I've noticed that the best interview subjects are the ones who also ask questions. Curiosity is a wonderful attribute.

i’ve been listening to a lot of Ram Dass talks lately -and he touches upon the topic and his many years experience of being with people who are dying. A lot of resonance with the beauty and freedom of being with the experience. For the person who is dying and for the person who is being with and witnessing

Im currently listening, this doesn't feel like an interview, this is a conversation between 2 people , one a famous actress , the other a writer ...both with a similar experience...this is a subject ive thought alot about , not because i have health issues but i think people should have the right to end their life on their own terms...when the United States continues to put profit over healthcare, people not wanting to have debt for themselves or their families , going through treatments , etc ....thank you for this great interview New York Times

I had no idea Tilda was so unrelatable. Eccentric, esoteric background - almost occultist. Great actress.

Interesting discussion on lived experience, politics and especially the host's question about the propaganda potential of art to neutralize political dissent. Makes me think of Sheldon S. Wolen's book on managed democracy in the age of spectacle

The headline is wildly misleading as the subject for this interview.

I don’t know why, but the more happy he was listing to her speak about liberal artsy stuff the more I kinda hoped she was American & just faking the British accent. That would be true art.

I didnt catch the names of the movies, etc... you mentioned... can you put links in the future? I didnt catch who you mentioned, Lenny Ruthenstal? I cant find that film maker googling...not sure if I am hearing it correctly... a little frustrating not to be able to look up the references here... otherwise a fascinating interview that gave me wonderful new ideas, thank you

Leni Riefenstahl. Triumph of the Will and Olympia were propaganda films for the German Nazi party. Admired by Goebbels and his buddy Adolf.

Great interview. Although Tilda is wrong about wearing mask when protesting. It is for their safety as the fascist police have immunity here. They (the police) and MAGA people are a threat to their safety by far.

Re: Meanness in the World... Take Trump for instance, like my son when he was little, I came to a point one day in exasperation, finding myself saying to him, "[Donald]! You spend SO MUCH ENERGY [insert destructive action here], why don't you take that energy and honestly invest it in something good for everyone? You're certainly clever enough to avoid doing this; imagine how you would feel seeing one of your inventions actually helped people. Can you feel the joy in your body seeing the smiles of all the people your invention helped in making their life easier?" My son is no dummy. He did turn around then and has since invented many things that have helped many people and businesses. Trump is a nobody, lacking in imagination, foresight, and heart.

Moving on really is grossly overrated when it can take me, a writer, years to think through even the start of one complexity of life let alone death.

I haven't gone through the whole interview, but can't help responding to the sentiment of this comment by saying "maybe the point is sometimes people just can't think through something, and maybe people need to accept that inability. maybe it's giving up, maybe not, and it's OK." Hope everything goes well for you.
