    If you like The National Anthem you have to watch the live performance on SNL. Context is very important, you have to realize this was the album right after OKC and everyone was expecting them to keep being "the saviors of rock and roll" like the press was saying. This album is usually considered the greatest left turn for a band ever. I'm sure a lot of people didn't hear anything from Kid A yet and it probably was a real shock to them. They didn't release any singles from this album and only short snippets of a few songs with cool animation so no one knew what to expect. They came out and kicked ass on SNL, Kid A is so much better than I imagined live and people were really surprised by it.

  • @dbaileyosu
    @dbaileyosu День тому +5

    Aphex Twin is fine but people saying this album is IDM have lost the plot. If it is IDM, it’s the only one to debut or reach number one on Billboard, but it’s much more than that.

  • @dbaileyosu
    @dbaileyosu День тому +5

    Kid A is an A+, perfect record for me. If you loved the horns on The National Anthem, you will very much enjoy Life in a Glasshouse off Amnesiac, it’s essentially free jazz. The bass line off National Anthem was written by Thom when he was 16. Ed actually was the one who made Treefingers, but it does feel like Jonny.
    Jonny did all of Idioteque on a computer program out of scratch, except the Tristan chord sound and that little sound right at the end of intro are sampled from two late 20th century classical composers. You should look up Jonny doing it live, it is one of the more remarkable things I’ve seen.
    You saying specter a few times is funny since they wrote an unused theme song for the Bond film Spectre, and Jonny has collaborated with PT Anderson on most or all of his film scores since at least There Will Be Blood. If you really dig atmospheric music, there are two albums by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós named Ágætis byrjun and ( ). They were both realeased around the same time as Kid A and are just as atmospheric as anything else I’ve heard.

    • @JerryBees
      @JerryBees  День тому +1

      I was going to mention Sigur Ros! Didn't because I can never remember how to pronounce their name hahaha. But yes Agætis bytjun is a lovely record.

      + on Life in a Glasshouse, I have it added to a Blues playlist of mine (yes its probably more Jazz but fuck it). The horns in the National Anthem always remind me of the theme tune of Oz. Pretty sure there was a jazz intro version Way Down in the Hole for one of the seasons of The Wire that reminded me of it as well.

      @@JerryBees if you’ve never listened to ( ), you absolutely need to ASAP. The last song on that album might be my favorite closer to any record ever. Probably tied with Street Spirit off The Bends. Also, you should use iTunes or apple music to listen to it, because Apple has Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio and that fucking album is Dolby and sounds fucking AMAZING. Apple sounds better, is cheaper, has hi-res lossless, and pays the artists more. Atmos really makes a huge difference, and as someone who really appreciates the mixing and production process, you’re missing out.

Good headphones no distractions just completely got lost in it. Now it has become my favorite album ever. It just grows and grows and doesn't stop. Every time it just gets better. Atleast that's my experience.
    Also.. I'm not saying this only because I'm a huge Björk fan but Kid A is really inspired by her album Homogenic.. Unravel is one of Thom's all time favorite songs (Radiohead performed it live many times)

    That was a great reaction - I love when someone takes us along for their journey and can provide peronal clarity and new innovative responses. I thought it was great! Going back to 'The Bends' is a great move, to see the more raw 3 guitar attach that originated the band and never really left regardless of what new directions they go on every album - just to witness The Bends, OK Computer, and Kid A - the 3 releases they did in 5 years after the pressure debut album in 1993 with "Creep," will add to your feel for the band. Oh, and also, 'The Bends' is a sick album! But the other plan you mentioned, is the best of all....."In Rainbows: From the Basement." Just the same 5 guys who met in High School, are stil together as those same 5 guys - and YES, it is amazing to watch how they re-create their soundscapes and sonic wizardry live with no tricks - that concert - If I have to guess, will give you a newfound appreciation of 'In Rainbows' - plus there are a handful or more tracks they play that aren't on that album that are badass. If it isn't the absolute Apex moment in band history, that concert is in the top few foe sure. Also, it has been reacted to several times and 100% of those reactions made it up on YT without any pauses or need to cut out anything, so you can just sit back and enjoy one of the most legendary live videos in music history and offer up more of the honest incites - great, good, bad or indifferent, as you did here, Sorry long comment PoPo are knocking, I am out! Peace/
