I am 100% convinced a white lid gets you seen much better, and they don't get so hot in the summer. Retired my X4 this year after 5 years and many many thousands of miles but held off getting another one due to the fact it was a swine to get on, something I understand Arai have addressed with the new X5 by tweaking the shell shape a little (yes, I have big ears).
I am happy with your review, I agree with its strengths and weaknesses. I've been wearing the x4 for a year, and find it to be the best adventure helmet around. I will wait a few more months before treating myself to this new model.
I love the smell of Arai in the morning ! 😂 My x4 is almost 5 years old so looking forward to the x5. Love everything about the x4 other than the damn pin lock.
Will be interesting to see how it performs long term Rich. Tried one on at the NEC, very nice!! Looking forward to seeing the custom paint too. Thank you👍
Got my first aria in spring and yes by far most comfy lid I’ve ever had Remember you right saying you could sleep in it, I would defo agree Great informative vid. Thank you
Richy I was very impressed with your new lid and Arai and good leathers saved my life when I had an accident. I thought that my lid was good but it was great and when I looked at it when I came out of hospital you wouldn't even know that it was been in an accident.
@@RichyVida I'm doing OK thanks, I'll never get back onto a motorbike now, although I sat on my husband's motorbike on it's stand in our garage but my balance is not good and I walk with a stick, I had my accident in 2008 going to the next village to get my horse in and feed her, my surgeon told my husband I should never had lived though the roadside accident, the ambulance journey to the hospital and the 9 hrs operation, but I am a fighter and him upstairs said that it wasn't my turn yet. Hey up Rich, was chatting on instagram to you about my X4 so I thought I’d come have a look. I love the review on this mate, great work and love the honesty. As I said touch wood I’ve had no issues with my pinlock…so far! Just made a school boy error and checked the price of my X4, it’s now £400! I paid £600 for the break orange model.
Cracking review mate, you cant go far wrong with Arai quality helmets I've owned a few over the years although i do have a Shoei and HJC carbon at the moment,it already looks nice in plain white but bet it will look epic once its custom sprayed, looking forward to the reveal 👍🏻
As the TourX 5 isn't for sale to the public till January 2024, at the earliest, you are probably totally correct in being possibly the first normal person to get one. I spent ages at the Arai stall at the bike show. The guy (name forgotten i'm sorry) was super nice and accommodating. The Helmet felt perfect when I tried it on. I am coming from the X4. I did buy the Cardo Edge at the show, for when I get the new X5 , but relented and fitted it to the X4. You totally right in all you mentioned about the X4 visor issues and changes the Arai have made. I'm pleased the cheek vents have gone .. Never felt they did anything for me. I'm totally jealous.🤫 I'm writing this message as I watch your vid .. Hopefully your impressed with the new massive chin vent.
Interesting review. As far as graphics or a white helme II always wear a white helmet as I think it makes me more visible. Enjoy your Arai X5 regardless of the colour.
Nice lids them. Similar price point to the shoei helmets at the moment. My neotec 3 is a £670 helmet with graphics. Glad I ordered at the nec. Got it a lot cheaper! Just waiting for it to arrive still! Good video 👍
I love my x4 but hate the visor 👎 ive had to have my missus lean over from the back before to hold the visor up when caught out with a dark visor qt night just so we can keep a hustle on 🤣 look forward to trying yhe x5 👍🏼 good review Rich.. cheers
I have only had Arai helmets. I have the X4. I just purchased the X5. It feels great, but I've not ridden in it yet. Much deeper speaker pockets than the X4 are obvious. Fitting comms will be much easier as there is a deliberate flat spot on the shell to accommodate this. Also, the curtain is designed to run wires through. Well thought out. 👍
yea not sure if its just coz its solid white or angle of camera but peak looks very high and off the helmet unlike the x4 as much but they do make cracking helmets i am looking to swap to the stlye as getting an ADV hopfully
I love my XD-4 as well. It’s 4 years old so I’ll need a replacement by next year. Can’t wait to see your custom paint job, I’ve thought about doing that on a helmet before.
I've had my X4 for a while now and the only down side was that there was no internal sun visor... such a shame they didn't think to add this in to the new 5.
@@Sharpey76. ... In their opinion maybe but still believe it is a little short sighted of them seeing as how a lot of riders would prefer one over a helmet that doesn't. Anyway, other than that it has been the best helmet I have ever had both in terms of comfort and looks. Ride safe.
Thank you for this review, very helpful. About the 4 version, I run this one since 2017, you are totally Right about the pinlock. Nightmare...but me I use and other kind of lense, from Arai ( Noth America) ...XD-4 Shield, Fog-Resistant, Clear XD-4 Shield with laminated fog-resistant film. Clear with Brow Vents. Will resit fogging under most circumstances, but in extreme conditions or during extended use it can become saturated with moisture and begin to fog or bead with excess moisture. Proper care and maintenance will help performance and extend the serviceable life. *Not for use on XD-3 and previous XD models And this one are WOWWWW.... no pinlock. .. no problem, and no fog
The biggest issue I have with my X4 is the innards constantly moving and falling out once i fitted an intercom. Having spoken with other owners, they have had a similar problem. Would stop me from buying another Arai. With the cost of the helmet you would expect something so basic to not be an issue.
Yes that would drive me insane, but, I too have all that stuff inside and never had anything move? It’s a there maybe a wire in the way of one of the press studs? 🤷♂️
@RichyVida same for me , never had a problem with internal falling out of an Arai Ever! More li,Ely user error when putting the coms equipment in and rebuilding it .
what is it like for noise? the first helmet I ever bought was an Arai Quantum F and was extremely noisy, so never went back to the brand, my last 4 helmets have been Schuberth which are also hand made and are particularly quiet, obviously and X5 Tour is completely different from an early Quantum F so would be interesting to know how noisy it is, especially with having a peak that adds to the noise
I was recommended this style of helmet in favour over the traditional full face as I find the helmets sits to close to the face, causing pinlock moisture issues like I'm breathing directly onto the pinlock... whereas these x- tour type sits abit further away thus lessing moisture fatigue of the pinlock.
Hi rich, I just bought an x5 , what a beautiful comfy lid , if you've fitted the gopro on the chin by now , how did you do it , i cant find anyone who makes a fitting for the x5. I also have the x4 and everything you mentioned is so true, but the x5 is better by far
Yes totally agreed. X4 and s lovely, but has niggle, X5 is absolutely spot on! Yep. I’ve made my own mount like I did to the X4. Check out my most recent vid. The Cup of Tea one 👍
Great review m8 but got to say looking at the visor while you were out on the ride, it looks like they've taken a rear wing off an F1 car & stuck it on your head! Maybe it was just the camera angle, but definitely looks a little odd!
so I am thinking of one of these helmets, currently I have 2 helmets the Ruroc track ( my current fav ) and the Carburg driod. what is the purpose of the visor as its quite high, not like a baseball cap etc
It’s no bigger than the X4. But I agree it looks it on the pics - I thought the same before seeing it in the flesh. No, no drag, not at breast on the bike I was riding (had a tall screen).
Tried the helmet, and it fits perfectly. But I noticed that the visor does not go all the way up and that the bottom of the visor comes into one's field of vision, something you have reflected on?
No, not at all? I think the visor mech is perfect. What brand are you used to? Can’t say I’ve ever noticed it not going all the way up or that it remains in view whilst up?
Aah! Well I made mine (as I did with the X4). A flat GoPro mount, removed the 3M sticky, cut and shaved the mount so it fits nice, then used some mouldable SuGru to fix it. Makes a way better job than any mount that sticks on.
