you know he's a newfoundlander when all you have to say is "hi" and its a two hour answer
I feel for Terry Ryan. This happened to me in my Junior career as well. Just ran into the wrong coaches at the wrong times. You can't help but think his career may have been different with a different coach.
Turn the page bro.
What a great guy Terry is and i agree he deserved to be in the NHL much longer than he was!He had the skill set for a long NHL career.
He seems entertaining at first, but he is the literal definition of a broken record. He lives in the past and has parroted the same stories on every podcast, including his own, for the last 10 years. There is a reason he didn't play longer in the NHL and it's because he is unaware and entirely uncoachable. That works with a high level of skill in junior but nobody has time for it in the pros.
@@moosejaw99 Yes you may be right but I think with the right coach he may have got a few more years, there have been many players with issues that have played a lot more than 8 games in the SHOW and i think Terry deserved more however as i say it would have taken a certain kind of coach!..Hey he did make to the Big Leagues against all odds and that's quite a accomplishment!!!
Don’t forget. Look what Therrien did to him and other players. Mental mind games. I agree with the right coach and setup he would have played more. He had the skill but got caught up with that shitty Cdn era when Houle came in. I mean if they messed up Patrick Roy and he wanted out and did what he did, I think the chips were against him
@@yeltsin6817 Correct but his biggest problem was outside of his control to a degree- he was drafted in that F'd up period in Canadiens history - I think he was drafted by the management team of Serge Savard / Jacques Demers ( he probably would have done fantastic with Demers as a coach ) but of course they got flushed - and taken over by Rejean Houle / Mario Tremblay regime - and they inherited him and had no allegiance to his being successful - that probably contributed more than anything to his short time in NHL . And as near as I can tell - he did not have the capability to handle Therrien and he kind of spiraled out of control .lots of guys have had similar stories - it is why it is so rare the ones who overcome all the odds
@@pjpredhomme7699 agreed. I mean even Roy told them where to go and left. They were a disaster
A two hour podcast and Terry covered 95% of it. Only a Newfoundland could. Lots of laughs, thank you Chris, Terry and Tim. A+
Terry is a great story teller for sure! Keep up the good work boys!!
Terry has the gift of gab. Great with the pen too. I Loved his book “Tale of a first round nothing” too.
Ryan is unbelievable. You feed him a question and sit back for ten minutes and let him go! Love the way he can jump all over the place from Newfoundland history to Nilan's career stats to stories about his own career and here and there and he just keeps it all rolling along and its entertaining as hell.
Another great show .
Really loved this one. Terry Ryan, you are awesome. Houle, Tremblay and Therrien were the worst. They destroyed the Habs.
This was a great interview. Just a reminder for all of us to be honest and humble. I'm a Terry Ryan fan. Really enjoyed it knucks...
Love the podcast
Big fan Chris of your career and what you hv done to get your life back on track.
You and then John kordic were my favourites.
Be nice to get Dan kordic on ur podcast.
Terry is a great storyteller!!!!
Great interview. Very entertaining. I remember watching his father, a star with the OHL Hamilton Red Wings in the early 70s.
This was amazing! I'm 37 years old so I knew Terry's name but not so much about his story. What an interesting guy! Great talk.
Can't say enough about this one....Much respect to you knuckles for refusing the mystery juice injection....great interview!!!!
Thanks Rock, appreciate it!
Absolutely LOVE this guy... and not in a weird way !!!
Terry is always a great interview. Well done
Knuckles you have a great thing going with your Podcast…great stories with great guests. TR is an awesome guest. Best to you in 2024
TR is a Tri City Americans legend, scored the OT winner in game 7 vs Spokane Chiefs to give us our first playoff series win in 1995. We also had future NHLers Brian Boucher and Daymond Langkow on the team. Thanks for the memories TR
The best episode yet....Terrys quite the character...welll done Knucks n hi from winnipeg TIm
Thank you! Hi to you too
Great personality 🔵⚪️🔴
Excellent. Terry is a riot.
I could listen to Terry Ryan over and over again!
Best interview I have ever seen on any podcast. So glad to hear the Terry Ryan story. The Habs truly mishandled this kid.
That doesn't explain anything.
Ryan was doing well in the ahl and then suddenly he wasn't. This was before the ankle injury.
The only explanation is that he got run out of the league for disrespecting the canadiens jersey while with lunatic Therrien. Then nobody including the Toronto Maple leafs would offer him a pro contract. Then he realized his career was basically over and stopped performing.
Then the "injury excuse" became a cover for the fact he threw the jersey on the floor and walked over it being the real reason he didn't have a pro career.
Terry Ryan was kicked out of the league for the ultimate insult. Throwing the canadiens jersey on the floor and walking on it in front of everyone. Therefore he wasn't a bust.
Look at this interview. He basically tells you the real reason he didnt have a pro career and then brings up the "ankle injury" excuse and then Nilan drops hockey altogether.
Thank you so much for the awesome feedback! Means a lot
Houle, Tremblay, Perron, Therrien.....now that boys and girls is what a shitshow looks like!
Thanks for the ❤️ guys... I had to watch this episode again... Mr. RYAN... you're absolutely awesome... I played with Mel Bragg in Houston B.C. he is from Newfoundland... and honestly... he was not good, but he was a glue guy and a very good friend. Give him 3 beers...and you couldn't understand one word he was saying... I love that guy... and again... not in a weird way...
TR is a massive legend man!! I lost it with laughter multiple times during this Pod. Thanks fellas this was great.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for taking the time to share your comments
Excellent
great interview! cheers boys!
Great sit down👍
Terry is the easiest guy to interview. You ask one question and it goes on and on! Loll
Unreal!
Another excellent podcast guys.
What an interesting interview. I love Newfoundlander’s and hope to visit again. Friendliest people in Canada. Glad Terry is doing alright post hockey.
I love your show. Nothing like real story.
This was fascinating. I remember the name, but I don't remember him playing for the Habs. I will have to hunt for clips online.
this podcast lasted longer than his time playing for the habs
great talk show, terry ryan bounced back very well, and of course knuckles and tim your going to great in the future
Holy shit! A trip down memory lane! Thank you for this. I used to live in Quesnel for a short time, super tough town! We used to watch the millionaires, and let me tell you, there was no tougher team than them! I remember going to the 4x4 track for parties, everyone used to get laid there in the woods. I also remember, sometimes if you came in there with your high beams on, your lights got smashed…. I know from experience…… lolol…. You drink hard and you play hard! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This was so awesome!
I played in Quesnel as well... for the 'Roos'... we won the Western Canadians (senior hockey).. and flew to Moncton for the Canadian Championship... it was an excellent trip except for the hockey part... we got beat Sooo bad... outscored 24 to 4 in three games...
@@bradleyearp9903 I used to watch the Kangaroos too! It was great hockey!
Thanks Peter, Really appreciate the comments and the support!
yeah I played there 88-89 89-90 not the best years in Millionaire's history.
319 pims though
Terry, what's black and blue and floating in St. John's harbour? I'm safe. I'm a Townie. lol. Chris, we met years ago at a Toe Blake golf tourney and it was a real pleasure. Really enjoy your shows.
WOW what a great podcast!
Thanks for listening
I Did Play by Play for Terry Ryan and the Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni in NewFoundland. With Wendel Clark and knuckles in company. Great Group
Great interview!! New subscriber here.
HES A COOL GUY
Awesome interview and I pick raw knuckles too lol
Shout out to Uncle Willys! Still in Burnaby. Corner of Metrotown
Chris… respect your stance of standing up to the B.S
Geeeeeez, Knucks, Terry didn't let you talk
Top shelf content guys! Big fan of all of you guys but Stapes, you're the fuckin' berries!
I thought this interview could not get any better, then Terry said “either or” about the blondes and brunettes. 😂 best fuckin interview I’ve ever heard
I like Terry
Great story teller. Much respect from Fredericton NB. Used to watch you play at the Aitken Centre for a couple years in the 90s. Loved the way you played.
Great story about Michelle Therienne.
Born in 77 as well. I have Terry's rookie card autographed. My sister got it for me.
I'm from grand falls Windsor. Wow.
great fucken podcast. great. thanks
Thanks Blaine!
Chris - I don't think I missed it (don't recall it during the Claude Lemieux episode) - How about the "full story" on the Paul Boutilier sucker punch at the Boston Garden and the near riot you started.
As a Caper and a HUGE Bruins fan, I have to say I love this Podcast. Thank you all. Awesome. PS. I am watching this in Medellin Colombia. Oh and raped raped me with the vaccine because i needed to travel to work.
Awesome thanks so much for listening!Make sure you Subscribe & Follow! And tell your friends
In regards to your question about why so many New England sports fans in NFLD/maritime, the American cable feeds from NBC, CBS, CBS came from New England cities. So you get New England news as well the local games which would be bruins, patriots Red Sox. That was before there were a million sports channels.
Can’t put the teeth in for the interview. Lol
Stapes feeling really good about his career after this interview. Even Coach/Dr. Igor Creekinov thinks Michel Therrien is a awful coach.
I love Terry. He's such an engaging speaker, and his stories keep you on the edge of your seat.
Another great show gentleman. This dudes a beauty. Tim just have to say I love to see you get emotional it was great. ( Keane must have been a douche ) I feel bad for this guy. Such a waste of such a talented kid. As a father who coached these are the stories that would scare the hell out of me. This guys an actor like me catch Gotham Blue on Amazon prime ( yea yea it’s a pitch )
He would of been great in New Jersey back in those days. Could of blended into the system and been a solid fourth liner. The Devils always had a way of developing fourth liners.
Michel Therien sounds like the conduter in the movie Whiplash (2014)
Terry is a master recantor
Have him on again ask him bout Frank Bialowas story
I love watching this podcast..."NOW" ...I love it even more knowing Chris didn't get the Bio-weapon vaccine...Chris you are a "Fucking Hero" in my eyes....Thank You!!!
Thanks Dave, appreciate the support!
Great interview and good for you for making your own decisions 👍
The Habs really wanted to draft Shane Doan that year but he was taken just before their pick
He’s from mount pearl and family from grand falls that’s not the bay lol
Lol
1:38:36 Does Terry fire up a J ? lol
Blondes or brunettes either, or? "Either or, for sure" 😂😂😂😂
He seems like a “hat-backwards” kind of guy
Wait ,they wanted him to be another Chris Nilan . So they picked him # 1 ? It all makes sense now .
only 22 likes?
8th overall = 6-7 yrs of 1 way contracts. Who is to blame 🤔? Agent should have set Terry up better financially,
"...and suffering a career-ending ankle injury in 2001"
"... in 2003 he led the Orlando Seals with playoff goals (8) to help them win the league championship."
No one has ever reconciled how a career ending ankle injury in 2001 actually did not end his career because he was playing competitive hockey in 2002 and 2003. Ball hockey, then senior hockey,,,I mean with a serious ankle injury?????
Aaron Asham had like 800 games in the nhl and did nothing more in his first 7 games in Montreal than Ryan.
I don't know. Something doesn't add up here.
Terry. Stop smoking.Unless its pot.
I think the real story haven’t been told why a short nhl career
I could never stand Therrien . This solidif's it . The only reason Mtl. brought him back is 'cause he was french- what a joke
Quesnel Millionaires ?
Terry's Dad was a coach.
Terry Ryan should have played like a first-round pick and not a 5th rounder. He should have played the game and grind.
Terry Ryan was a punching bag8 , willing but not a good fighter.
Can't believe the Habs hired Therrien twice, One of the worst coaches i have ever seen.
He Didnt Make It..
Terry has the mind of a sixth grader
Terry is hilarious
