Really glad I found your channel! I drove a CRV today and tomorrow I'm looking at a CX-5, but after watching this, will be paying attention to the CX-50. The fact that the CX-5 is built in Japan really appealed to me but sounds like the quality in this vehicle is top notch as well.
Bought a 2015 Mazda3 new and then passed it down to out daughter in 2020 and bought a Subaru Forester. Today we traded the Subaru for a 2024 CX50 which was much better looking and handled much better similar to the Mazda3. I had no problem with the Subaru but it was not as enjoyable to drive and some of the infotainment features were annoying. My daughter is still driving the 3 with 145,000 on it. Maxda makes a good car.
I have the preferred plus and it’s a smooth ride, but the rims are 17 inch. I won’t lie, I got this one over the premium because I hate piano black. I love this cx50 and agree with everything you said about the drive. I’m also a former sports car owner so this cx59 fits me great. I love the steering as well. I’m pretty much the same kind of consumer as you.
Great review. I agree with many of your comments. I have the same TPP trim, going on 18,000 miles now, bought in May 2022. It handles so amazing for its class, feels like luxury after driving around my NB Miata. There is a setting somewhere related to the XM System settings that will let you turn off the annoying weather alerts. I randomly found it one day, so it’s possible.
Wow! Im new to the channel and was checking out Mazdas, Subarus, Toyotas as my future car! I also saw you are in the medical field and I’m currently in nursing school!🎉
I agree with most of your comments. My wife has a cx50 turbo premium and she loves the looks of it inside out. She also loves the turbo engine. The only complain she has is that there isn’t a lot of space like cubbies in the interior compared to its competitors. For me the suspension is fine but the steering is too heavy in parking situation. Once the car gets moving then the steering is great, but the only reason I wouldn’t get one for myself is the seats. Maybe is my body type, but to me the seats need more cushioning. They are on the hard side, so for long distance driving I would not take this. I am a former corvette owner and my wife had a Lexus IS350 which I think it rode harder than this in certain road conditions. Overall, my wife loves the car as she has no complaints about the seats.
Love that you focus so much on the steering, especially these days because everything has moved away from a hydraulic rack. Please keep doing so! And yes, I subscribed :) Going to buy this car over a Subaru.
I am enjoying your videos. I am considering buying a cx-50 and find the information you provide to be very helpful. Now I am torn between the cx-50 and cx 70. Too many options.
@@gailenrique2804 It's great. I'm coming from a 2011 Subaru Legacy. The Mazda is a lot more luxurious and doesn't drive like a truck or SUV. My only complaint is the small fuel tank. 15.9 gallons, the Legacy had an 18.5 gallon tank.
@xpavar that 18.5 on the legacy might be about 14.1 usable as the rest is for reserve when you are low on fuel. I remember that because I used to have a '05 Toyota Camry it had that size of a tank.
I'm a proud owner of an ND Miata but it's just not practical for me anymore since I have a wife and daughter. This is super compelling to me as someone who doesn't want to give up a nice driving experience
Nice Review - we too found the 6 speed transmission satisfactory with the turbo engine. Drove the Honda 2.0t w/ 10speed transmission for comparison; for me there were just too many (unnecessary?) gear shifts w/ the 10 speed. Much preferred the Mazda 6 speed. Also, when in a gear, the Mazda is less apt to downshift which I preferred over the 10 speed. Both my wife and I preferred the seating position over the CX50 and felt since driving around town was our regular usage, we went with the CX5.
The somewhat inconsistent throttle and braking response is a hallmark of Mazdas. I own a 2023 Mazda 3, and I can confirm I felt this way to. That's actually due to how the transmission works, due to its lockup clutch setup. If you want to kind of avoid it, the manual shift mode fixes it IMO. However, if you do get the pedal to kickdown mode, the throttle is 100% and feels normal.
Bought my CX-50 tpp 3 months ago. Love it! Although my wife and i were driving back from NYC and we got into an accident with it. Anywho its in the body shop and its been there for 4 weeks so hopefully ill get it back this week.
I got 245/45R-20 PIRELLI P7 AS PLUS 3 SL - game changer for ride quality and comfort. I would say minor difference in handling but its a better trade off and also lightens up the steering. Mazda should make these the stock tires! I also have the TPP
@@RealKevGotEm I don't notice the torsion beam unless you are turning over a big bump. The tires on such a big rim definitely help soak up the vibration coming through. The springs seem quite tight and responsive but makes it a much sportier ride than one would expect from a grocery getter that can have some fun in the twisty canyons and occasional camping trip.
Interesting about the wireless charger. Mine works perfectly fine. Although my car is a 2024. Yay. So far love everything about the car. Except for the new monthly payment 😂😂
Did you consider the current RDX A-spec for its handling and car-like feel on the road? I think it gives really sporty characteristics by pushing all that power the outside rear wheel in turns.
If I could I would skip the moonroof altogether. It seves no function. If I could I would get smaaler wheels bigger tires (eg 17"). Finally I woul like better mileage.

This is an awesome review. I test-drove a Meridian Edition, loved the steering and overall driving experience on both road and gravel. I have the same sports-car biases. I'm cross-shopping the CS-50 Meridian vs the Subaru Outback Wilderness vs the Audi A4 allroad. Have you driven either of the other crossover / offroad "estates"? (easiest way to drop the weird wagon stigma is use the european term for the body style :D)
I went w the meridian after having a subaru wrx mt for 18 years. Wanted the subaru wilderness bad but infotainment system and cvt trashmission were a deal breaker. The meridian has smaller rims and more tire so softer ride. I did research as for all the unnecessary tech stuff and mazda is the least intrusive.
@@AK-bw8xk I drove an Outback Wilderness on the weekend, including both road and empty dirt lot full of mild hills. It was a surprisingly fun drive in both cases, despite being a bit of a bloated vehicle. The infotainment was surprisingly bad, not only is the UI/UX terrible, but the screen tech itself is as well. Easiest way to spot a terrible screen is wear polarized lenses. A good screen works. The Subie's didn't. I also drove a CX-50 GT Turbo (fun, simple-yet-engaging tech, well-designed... but jarring on rough roads with the 20" wheels), an A4 (sedan, allroad this evening), and the tech and control interfaces in the subaru (where are my damn buttons?!) takes it out of the running despite how it drives.
Great CX-50 reviews! It's on my list. Question: What made you buy the CX-50 over other CUV's? I'm looking to buy my wife a new one to replace her 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
