The Counterstrike community is very conservative and likes to stick to the old classics. I play a lot of Valorant recently and the maps in this game are far more progressive and different to the classical CS:GO maps which is great. The players are also less toxic, more open-minded and you meet a lot of girls playing which you'll never encounter in CS:GO.
hey, thanks for making this video. Anubis is definitely a map i know a lot of people sleep on and while not perfect, it does need to see top level play badly. definitely inspires me to continue working on my own csgo mapping ventures.
my biggest issue with anubis isnt the layout. i love the layout. but i am so sick of deserts. i dont play dust2 much anymore and i really rarely visit mirage. but tuscan caught my eye because of the colors used. i really want to play anubis but with less orange and brown everywhere.
What sticks with me from the first time Anubis was around is how long it takes for T's to get anywhere. For example I remember getting rushed/peaked from B main and sewers a lot, and never being able to get any mid control, with A rushes being less common. And to fix that all they really need to do is make it take a little longer for CTs to get to B/mid. Also for A I agree, it needs a change, I feel like they could have a second entrance for T's that is onto that elevated little bit near A main and use the elevated section in canals as to get to that new entrance.
Been meaning to learn it and now that Valve finally made it active duty I've been playing ranked and it plays amazing. Lot of clipping issues to iron out but the layout is awesome. Loving it. Amazing timing on the video!
As soon as Anubis came back to MM, me and my friend instantly put it into our standard queue of Mirage, Cache, Vertgo and Nuke. Anubis feels great but it can be polished and changed a lot more (mid and A, specifically). I haven’t played Tuscan but I really feel like people are enjoying it more for nostalgia reasons.
I'm glad they took out Dust II, Dust II is designed to small for the year 2023 almost and I think Anubis has potential but I must say I liked Tuscan a little bit more, but maybe it will will come for Mirage in the near year
Ive known Roald, the maker of Anubis since early 2014. Hes just a genuine lad and loves to see any form of project progress. I love Anubis. I really want to see what pros can get out of it. In my ideal world a map or two gets rotated out of the map pool after every single major (followed by a player break right after majors so players have time to learn it). edit: and now they actually added it after a major
I played this map a fair few times during beta testing. Mid changed a lot everytime, while the rest of the map just seemed to work. Originally, mid only had the double door section, but it was always Janky, and unpushable. The addition of the inner mid peak really changed up how mid was played for the better, but i feel that it didn't fix some of the underlying issues of mid, and untimatily, that Ts does not push mid that much makes A see much less play.
I think it was Warowl who made a very good suggestion in for the map Pool. He said that valve should rotate maps through every 3 moths kinda like seasons. Id definitely like to see that

I still can't make the case for Anubis but I can absolutely make the case for Santorini, it goes under a lot of people's radars (except Anomaly, I think he's single-handedly keeping the case for Santorini being competitively viable alive). That map was released with the Wildfire Operation and it is still to this day my favorite competitive map CS has ever seen. The color palette and the style perfectly fits CS's new vibrant aesthetic and for competitive play it's extremely well-designed and thought-out, and what few flaws I find it to have could be patched up with updates like every other CS map in history. PLEASE do a video on Santorini and analyze its greatness, it needs a bigger light shone on it. The one-way drop-down onto B site from Mid is a high-risk high-reward play, the risky tunnel going into A site that can lead down a direct line-of-sight path to the CTs or breaking off into the building on the site for better cover but taking longer to get into site, the always hectic mid peek from both sides reminds me of Mirage's mid plays. It's such a fantastic map and I can't speak highly enough about it, Valve needs to bring it back ASAP I think the community would fall in love with it all over again
I didn't like it too at first, but the more I played it, the more I liked it :D Wish more people played it. Mind doing similar video for Breach? I think it has potential too as it felt good to play for me since the first time, when it was in MapCore hub. Anyway, keep up the good content man 💙
Anubis is currently one of my fave maps to play. I loved it back in 2019 and was really bummed they removed it, but now that its back i only got better at it and now i just am sad that nobody else plays it :(
Anubis looks like a strange map from the outside, with a awkward mid and to big choke points on each site, but the map is designed for you to take opportunities on both sides. Take drop for example, you can’t reliably use it to quickly rotate as CT, or rush as T, because it’s in the open in no man’s land. But you still need to respect it, as if you all rush lower for example, a CT can push up or even behind you. It’s a map with a lot of give and take map control wise, and I feel like given a shot in Active Duty, it could settle into a really interesting meta
love anubis played it a lot in 2020 but with the current community maps in the game atm I actually think that Breach is the best community map added to the game in a long time. just a super fun map that feels fluid and fun to play

THANK YOU! Thank you for shedding light on my favorite map. I've been saying a majority of the same things you said in this video for a long while now, and my friends love it too. This map deserves to be in the active duty map pool more than any other map rn, and I really hope Valve pulls through.
Anubis could honestly be a utility centric map like mirage with fast pace site pushing but also have that aim duel/and quick rotation like dust 2 through middle or canals. The thing that intrigues me the most about Anubis is the endless amount of play and counter play that hasn’t been tapped in to. Like when I’m canals if for some reason you have canal control you could boost to mid for a fast mid to b or mid to a split if you find yourself in a late round situation with a player or two down either side to throw off timings for ct or even t in a retake situations. That’s what excites me is the untapped potential of this map and ways to exploit and push the meta of the map
Always love playing community made maps with my friends, also have lesser chance of vsing someone who know all their utilities. Anubis, Tuscan, basalt and Iris were our personal favourites.
I, as a loyal CS player(been playing since I was 7) love the changes. I am so sick of Mirage and Dust I can't even find the words to describe it, but I have to play it for mm and all, because people don't play other maps that much. Anubis, was like a dream to me, when it got released, I couldn't believe my eyes. I am so in love with Ancient Egypt and everything about it. So this map is amazing for me. The aesthetic is unmatched. The water, double doors, hieroglyphics...Every little detail is beautiful. For the gameplay, I, also am a big fan of B site, it's much more accessible and fun. The mid is, as you mentioned, usually too much work and too risky, with too little reward. I am very indecisive about the pro league though. It's a weird thing to say, I know, but I don't want Anubis to be so mainstream and boring with time. I wanna keep it for myself even haha Additionaly I think that this map might just be one of the very few maps that favor the T side, even if by a tiny tiny bit of percentage. But the CT spawn is much more cooler :) Thank you for the video, I think we are one of the very few people who has good taste in maps ☺️
It would be great to see your look on cs_italy, cs_militia and de_piranesi maps and why they are not there in csgo. They were actualy so interesting maps to play but for some reason completely removed from the game
I'm still new to playing csgo. I loved playing Iris, it felt refreshing and fun. It's layout somewhat interesting to me. Was bumped out when they removed it, but I heard a lot of good things about Anubis (of course Tuscan was a huge topic). First impression it felt so wide yet a bit claustrophobic at some areas. After a few games, I really enjoy T-side Anubis.
I generally don't particularly like any new CSGO maps, but ever since it came out the first time Anubis quickly became one of my favorites, right alongside Mirage and Nuke
I played few (too few tbh, but that's just because people don't want to play it) competitive matches on Anubis and this map just works. Sure, it needs few tweaks like brushes for easier smokes and flashes, but except that it should be part of map pool for sure.
Absolutely agrees on the A entrance issue. I would say this disconnnected entrance made it far too easy for CT to just do single A and play for contact, and probabally stack 3 B, as the middle door is also not very nice to attack. Also, being utility heavy is very likely why people hate it.
Yeah Basalt and Austria were sick, imo more fun than Anubis but I'd still rather see a shakeup with Anubis or any map replacing Mirage. Hell I wouldn't mind Ancient getting swapped out too, god I hate Ancient it's like a Valorant map, so blocky and boxy. If Valve don't force a change in the map pool we'll never see it, the players are extremely against change even though there are so many fantastic community maps out there. Hopefully we get more maps in CS Source 2 but I doubt it, we'll be watching pros play Mirage and Dust 2 for the rest of our lives.
@@dank3k It being so boxy is a big problem, you have 2 corners to clear on both sides of every entrance as a result, so it's currently the most CT sided map.
I've played so many different operation maps that i'd rather have than anubis or ancient, the fact that we got BOTH at launch instead of a cache or train just makes the map pool feel stale. Everyone bans inferno/mirage and are then forced to ban anubis and ancient and play nuke/vert/overpass until you puke blood. These new maps have so many angles, so many spots that are badly balanced especially on anoobis, timings are super weird, rotating sometimes feels like you have to cross the entire map through far ass spawn, etc. It just feels like these maps were made by people who really liked playing Valorant. "We need to evolve when it is necessary" That is such a zoomer take, coming in 10 years late and trying to shapeshift it into something else when you admit yourself that the lack of change has been key to the success of CS.
"We need to take A site - and PUSH IT, somewhere else!" In all seriousness A site can be cut-pasted closer to T-spawn, adjust CT spawn, and refitting mid to work with that is the opportunity to shake up those awkward angles.
Hi Mr. Penguin good to see someone who loves and wants new maps. Saddens me when every new map is met with "too many angles" and thrown in the bin by the community. Since I started playing in operation Phoenix I have spent as much time as possible playing custom maps because they are almost always only available for a limited time. Are there any older custom maps that you think didn't get the recognition they deserved? For me it's Black Gold, Mist, Empire and Royal, not that they were necessarily the best maps ever, but they were excellent in casual play at the very least and just seemed to go under the radar.
I have only played Anubis once on a shitty laptop without a mousepad and slightly tipsy. I got 25 kills but didn't really like the experience. You just convinced me to give it a proper go.
There's something about Anubis' visuals that feels bad, maybe its just it being another sandy map. Also you guys know when you're at a zoo or something and there are those fake sculpted rocks, the entire map feels like that to me.
When I first playing cs in 2019 anubis was my favorite map. Everyone told me it sucked so I ended up agreeing with the masses but looking back, that fresh view of being a new player had me making a decision on my favorite map based on no precomposed ideas or nostalgia. Instead just based on what I liked playing, which was anubis.
One thing I wish was changed about Anubis is the art style. I feel it suffers from the same issue as ancient in that it’s very well detailed and such, but it’s also one Color all the way through, meaning that any detail is lost in the noise. Other than it’s a great map
Personally, I think A Site is much better than the credit it is given. I think it integrates pretty well with Mid despite the other failings of mid. I also find the push from A Site into CT very interesting with potential to catch mid players rotating to B site.
I like anubis, but I still disagree with the site names. A should be called B and B should be called A. A site on anubis reminds me a lot more of B on other maps than A, I've called the wrong site multiple times because it's so unintuitive.
I hope we get both Anubis and Tuscan. I also really want to see a de_contra remake. There is a CSGO port and it was one of the best maps in the competitive pool for CS:Source.

Like when I’m canals if for some reason you have canal control you could boost to mid for a fast mid to b or mid to a split if you find yourself in a late round situation with a player or two down either side to throw off timings for ct or even t in a retake situations. That’s what excites me is the untapped potential of this map and ways to exploit and push the meta of the map
aged like fine wine my friend
what happened
Anubis is awesome. First time i played it, it had a charm that made it feel like it could have alot of depth as people play it more
Its like Valve team was cooperating with you and the pros lately
Always love playing community made maps with my friends, also have lesser chance of vsing someone who know all their utilities. Anubis, Tuscan, basalt and Iris were our personal favourites.
I love this map, im glad its getting some attention
0:12 "New masterpieces", and you show Vertigo for a second... I was about to have a heart attack :D
They should add a heaven entry towards A by just extending the existing one! And as you said, maybe a little bit changes in Ct mid
And they should add Austria again, cause it feels like a snow Anubis 😅
Wow, congratulations! I hope you're happy now :)
I'll certainly take my time to learn the map, you made a convincing case for it
that was so nicely predicted
They were actualy so interesting maps to play but for some reason completely removed from the game
italy and militia still exist in casual mode 👋
I'm still new to playing csgo. I loved playing Iris, it felt refreshing and fun. It's layout somewhat interesting to me. Was bumped out when they removed it, but I heard a lot of good things about Anubis (of course Tuscan was a huge topic). First impression it felt so wide yet a bit claustrophobic at some areas. After a few games, I really enjoy T-side Anubis.
I like Anubis, but I want Tuscan, and Cobblestone being added too!
Also, being utility heavy is very likely why people hate it.
basalt is still legitimately my favorite map that got removed after a short period of 6 months
@@cheesypoohalo Ancient's the modern version of mirage, only better. Fight me :P
@@dank3k I hate both fight me
@@dank3k It being so boxy is a big problem, you have 2 corners to clear on both sides of every entrance as a result, so it's currently the most CT sided map.
@@sterlingdriggs8806 I don't think it is, any stats?
0:57 A lineups (welp the A heaven smoke has changed)
2:15 B lineups
This aged extremely well and since I started playing CS on Anubis, I ain't complaining.
i came back after they added anubis to the map pool, and damn u were right all along
would love to see competitive teams strategize and deploy their tactics upon this map
Anubis now in the Active Duty, congratz :)
"We need to take A site - and PUSH IT, somewhere else!"
In all seriousness A site can be cut-pasted closer to T-spawn, adjust CT spawn, and refitting mid to work with that is the opportunity to shake up those awkward angles.
I found the Tuscan remake from the update a lotta fun too
You got your wish.
Also you guys know when you're at a zoo or something and there are those fake sculpted rocks, the entire map feels like that to me.
it's all beige except for sewers and ct spawn ._.
As of now, Anubis is a part of the active duty map pool, so congratulations!
When I first playing cs in 2019 anubis was my favorite map. Everyone told me it sucked so I ended up agreeing with the masses but looking back, that fresh view of being a new player had me making a decision on my favorite map based on no precomposed ideas or nostalgia. Instead just based on what I liked playing, which was anubis.
your content is chill, nice to watch, has stuff that I like, such as cs and maps, and your voice is smooth, +sub bro
One thing I wish was changed about Anubis is the art style. I feel it suffers from the same issue as ancient in that it’s very well detailed and such, but it’s also one Color all the way through, meaning that any detail is lost in the noise. Other than it’s a great map
It may be interesting to see in pro play, since they will actually know utility. But as you mentionned, middle and A need some rework.
Great video i've loved Anubis since it came out in 2020 also its one of my favourite maps along with inferno and cache
Im really glad somebody else out there loves this map just as much as I do
fair play
The best thing about the map is that is reminds me of the exotic maps that were in 1.6 way back
Personally, I think A Site is much better than the credit it is given.
He opened a case after this 😪
Kudos to being a CS community member who isn't dogmatically against new maps whilst barely having tried them out.
well this one aged well...
Revisiting this video because you nailed it!
I hope we get both Anubis and Tuscan. I also really want to see a de_contra remake. There is a CSGO port and it was one of the best maps in the competitive pool for CS:Source.
Anubis players are all crazy cool and open minded and have an unwavering passion for the game and all that
I don’t CS that much but the few times I played Anubis it was really fun everyone was a blast
So happy to see someone else also loves this map.
you should make a map, i dont care if its good or bad I just want to watch mapping videos and noooo one is making mapping videos on youtube
