Nice. There have been some cool advancements made since I last watched Outer Wilds speedruns. The whole beginning geyser skip to the suit and triggering the statue at the ship I've never seen. Also I've never seen Chert's drums be gathered from so far away.
Every time there's a scripted event that goes at it's normal speed I'm just imagining the Hatchling just VIBRATING like really wanting to move possibly yelling at it like GET A MOVE ON LET'S GO COME ON
I picture it as them slowing down for a moment in their frantic pursuit to pause and appreciate how wonderful something is! Before darting off to break reality some more

I love that the dev's advice from the speedrun reaction video actually became the legitimate strat: jump into the new universe from below because the cutscene is triggered by your head.
The approach to the Ash Twin warp looks like it takes SO much practice, not even getting into the testing it required to get that timing right. Stresses me out thinking about the pressure on the runner at that point
Cool speedrun, though I don't get one thing, can someone explain why would you go for the launch codes and the statue if you can get to the ship and suit thanks to the geyser? Is it because u can't sleep without statue or something?
You can't sleep without the statue being active, and also the sand on the hourglass twins won't drain until the statue is activated, preventing you from accessing the ATP.
The statue is what makes the events in the game happen mechanically and lore-wise. It literally makes the game start. I think I heard the loading that happens after the statue activating is actually loading up the main game and starts the 20 minute timer with the sun exploding. The statue is also lore dependent because I think it starts the 20 minute loop defined in the actual lore of the game to keep the solar system from being permanently destroyed.
@@xxxxixi6073 *spoilers* technically ash twin project starts the loop when the sun naturally goes supernova, and its been cycling for I think 9 billion loops or something before. Linking with the statue just starts your character stpeing memories.

Our character walks past the museum statue right after that happens, coupling their memories with the system. Suddenly their memories are no longer reset each loop but stored and the player starts to wonder wtf is happening and how to stop it.
Huh the 'devs react' to the other speedrun they specifically said they capped the sleep speed so it wouldn't be hardware dependent past a threshold, is it common for hardware to be below that threshold?
i really wanna know what the trick is to line up with the hidden seed in dark bramble! i watched a few times and couldnt figure out what they were using as a guide, nor why they were using free look there
@@Yggdrasil42 oh, I was wondering aloud if there was a visual way to orient yourself towards the vessel seed reliably, since it seems easy to end up flying in the wrong or slightly wrong direction in the fog. (And if I recall correctly, the way you're rotated upon entering the red seed isn't consistent)
@@rrc3035 I'm pretty sure the orientation when you pass through the seed is based on which entrance you took. So if you go in the same one everytime, it's just a matter of muscle memory at that point!
@@rrc3035 Late answer but it's not as hard as it looks, the main visual cue we use is the triangle formed by the lights you can see at 4:04, the seed will be just below it, you can also use the last fish position since it should be below you. Then at 4:13 when you get out of the fog the branch in front of the seed is pretty recognizable. Altogether it''s really consistent
The sun station isnt involved in beating the game. The high energy lab isnt connected to the Ash Twin Project, its genuinely just a lab. The only thing needed to beat the game is to take the warp core from the ATP, pop it in the Vessel, plug in the coordinates, and engage the warp.
The solar station is non-functional. It is exclusively there to hold the information that the sun is going to explode bc it is old. The high energy lab is activated when you reroute power from the sunken city to the lab and shows you how the black holes warp time. Neither are required for the ending, although the information they hold is vital for understanding it.
The first two don't aggro because they don't boost long enough to alert them. They then boost diagonally past the last one, which is just about fast enough to get past

Out of curiosity, why do all outer wilds speedrunners pause the time while sleeping?
It's because the speed at which the sleep time goes is hardware dependent. This way people don't have a disadvantage if they have worse hardware.

@@gregbernstein9126 its based on console vs pc, and lower pcs might speed up slower. console is capped at 5x speed and pc is 10x speed
7:20 the building opens up top so maybe a little time saved if you go in through the top?
it only opens up to the second floor so to reach the instrument you need to go through the wall
When you realise you have infinite time loops to practice for the one real attempt so you make the most of it
Within cannon, you couldn't really practice anything after getting to the ship. And dying after powering down the Ash Twins is "real".

What hidden seed? It's in the same spot each time. Go through the red seed then in the memorized direction to the Vessel seed.

I finished the game yesterday, how were you able to warp to the solar station? Is it not necessary to activate the stuff in the high energy lab?
