Sup dudes! Great testimony. I grew a yeard, tweard and was well into the theard when my mom got cancer. Decided to shave so she could see her baby faced son before leaving God's green earth. Fast forward and I am now 4 months into growing it again. I'm more impatient this time cause I know what lies ahead, but as you said...it's a "growing" experience and some days are harder then others. This video made me feel so much better about myself. I've been growing a beard for three months now, and during that time, I felt I grew much more than just facial hair... (Profile photo is very outdated) One of the most beneficial things I learned is patience. I've always been that guy that changes his look very often. People would always, always, tell me you look different. Whether it's clothes, hair style, attitude, etc, all of it. Now that I'm growing a beard, I feel much more relaxed and stable. Every time I touch it, it reminds me to be patient. I know what I want to be. Bob said "I wanted to be myself; not what others want me to be." and that made me even much more confident in what I want to be: MYSELF. I guess this is what Bob referred to as "Knowledge that you didn't know you'll gain."! I'd like to add one more thing... I started to learn more about others. It's funny because by changing something in myself, I've changed something in others. You can tell if a person accepts other opinions by getting a feeling about what he/she says about the beard. Very often people ask me why grow the beard, and most of the time say "Why not?". Doesn't feel like a complete answer to me. However, now I saw this video, confidently I will say: Because I want to be myself. Life is a journey. A beard is a bridge. Thank you. Both of you. THANKS A LOT!!!

I ve had my beard since it started to grow. My daughter says I look like a king and If I didn t have it she imagines me totally different, someone I am not. I feel I am not domesticated and when younger many people told me nasty things like I was hidding something but I didn t care at all. Those opinions made me stronger and sure of myself,a real man, the way our Creator made me.

Used to shave the beard in the summer and leave the moustache then grow it all back in the fall. Then I came to my senses. Fully bearded for longer than I can remember. Currently "medium" length, some may say long. Hope to do terminal length at least once in my life.
My beard is much like Bob's at this point. Maybe a bit longer, and I asked myself all these questions and then stopped shaving about 8 months ago. People always say "you're growing a beard". I rather think nope, I'm not intentionally doing anything. It just grows. It's supposed to be there. Now, the people who shave are the ones intentionally doing something to effect the way they look. They make and effort at it. Me? Just living life.

I grow a beard in the winter to keep the wind off my face, it really helps in sub zero temps, but I shave it off come spring, and stay clean shaved in summer and fall .
There's no such thing as "growing" a beard. You just stop shaving... shaving is something you do, growing a beard as your default setting is something you don't do!
Working outside in the elements a beard is very beneficial. Try working outside in winter with a beard...then shave it off and try it again. You will almost immediately regret it.

I can't really relate to the "self discovery" part, but that's probably because I've had my beard since I was a junior in High School and I never went through a period of being face-scraped - other than briefly as an adolescent while it was still coming in.
When I grew out my beard, I learned it mostly looks like it died from radiation sickness. So I only grow out the good parts, which is the circle beard.
I don't agree with the "how I'm supposed to look like naturally" argument. I mean, this would also mean letting your fingernails, your eyebrows, your nosehair and your earhair grow wildly. As it is human nature to tame these things (ultimately because women like groomed, clean men), it can be argued that this logic applies just as well to taming facial hair.
