I think this is a great subject to cover in a set of tutorials. It is one of those areas of video production that is often misunderstood or neglected. I'm genuinely delighted you set about producing the set of tutorials. Timecode is incredibly useful and a great asset to utilise in even the most basic of production setups. It may be a bit of a slow burn take-up if you do finish the tutorials and put them on sale, but I feel it would be of great benefit to many producing programmes involving dialogue, Multicam and using varying video devices that can accept timecode. I particularly like how the Tentacle Timebar app can sync a GoPro via a QR code with the Track E and Sync E units. I would urge you to continue with completing the set of tutorials, and can say I would definitely purchase it once finished. Go for it!
You guys have a knack for teaching me the coolest things ever that I never realized I needed or wanted until your work showed up! This is super cool. I do use my iPhone 13 Pro in my fledgling podcasting work and one day I will upgrade that to a 15, 16, or maybe I'll wait for 17, but I still believe an online course on the Black Magic Cam App done by you would be something that would be highly valuable to me.
The 15 Pro Max is the first non-DSLR I've used for serious work. I've bounced between the Blackmagic and CinemaP3 apps, capturing using Apple Log, editing with FCP. Both BM and CP3 are flexible and capable, but I'm leaning toward BM. App basics are already well-covered in other YT vids. I'd buy your course more for production flow and tips. Thanks for your years of helpful vids and plug-ins..
I intend to go in more serious production this summer with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I am sure I’ll buy your course, there always unexpected stuff to learn watching them !
This would be something that interest me. I often shoot with 2 cameras, and an audio recorder. So a time code sync would be a great help. As long As the audio recorder has the time code as well. I am currently syncing with audio in FCPX Multicam .
My specific question would be whether a specific device would retain its sync for some period of time after being disconnected from the Tentacle. In other words, can you “jam sync” multiple devices using just one (or one set) of Tentacles. Also, how exactly does the Tentacle work with the Movie Slate app. Generally, if your tutorial is a comprehensive “how-to” in;coding coverage of various popular cameras, including iPhone, the yep, I’m there. And, as someone said, if it covers the new Final Cut Camera app and the Multicam iPad app, that would be a bonus. Thanks for all you do, Ripple!
I would love to see how you import and synchronize to Davinci Resolve. I have problems in getting it to work also after seeing the different youtube videos about the topic.
HI Steve ! Thanks for your request for feedback ( help ) in the Ripple mailing. A fabulous start and great work. I understand that your consider abandoning the completion of this specialised tutorial if there is not enough demand. Personally, I'm a time-code beginner and would love to use it in my multi-cam settings, but need this tutorial to be "wide sweeping", ie. covering stuff "for dummies" ! ; ) Question; would this technique also work with a iPhone 12 and Sony A7-III ? I also find the tutorial fast paced... a little "pause" here and there to "digest" the information and a PDF "fact sheet" might be pedagogically good and "nice to have". Best wishes, Mike
Shame Final Cut can’t use the timecode you need the tentacle app on desktop. It’s why I’m moving to resolve. Of course using ripple training course to learn it
Very interesting and useful! One question, though: the camera HAS to be a Blackmagic, or can I use my Canon XA-35, for example? All the best to the Ripple Training team!
Yes to your question, I would love to learn from your iPhone Camera tutorial. Yes I will buy the Ripple tutorial. It is remarkable what the release of the Blackmagice Camera app has done for the iPhone 15, There is so much to learn and I look forward to your training! /mbrown.
Hello Steve, seems to me you made a great tutorial that will help a large group of videographers. I myself don't use multiple camera although I do have the possibility as I make movies with my Sony FDR AX53, my Sony A6400 and my mobile phone a Samsung A52S. And as I understood the Tentacle Sync E Mk2 works on almost any system. I am curious what it can mean for me. Thanks Steve.
Very interesting! How do you like that Blackmagic 6K? I've been considering one but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Can it record ProRes or is it limited to The Blackmagic codec?
It isn't clear to me in what scenario this would be helpful. A camera without audio? If all cameras are recording video and audio, there isn't a need. Am I missing something?
So how is the Black magic pulling in the TC via mic jack, but not recording it to audio? Do you just have the mic jack audio recording disabled in the BMCC menu ?
When you are matching the 24fps framerate across devices, how do you get the iPhone to be a fixed 24? I thought I understood that even with apps like Filmic Pro that allow you to "target" a fixed framerate they are still ultimately VFR. Are you having to convert the iPhone video files to fixed frame rate in post and does the VFR affect the timecode sync at all? Thank you!!!
No. I would not buy this tutorial. The promo email I got emphasized a tutorial on the BM camera app on the iPhone 15, but this video has very little to do with that compared to the ad content for the Tentacle device. Not cool.

Hi Steve. I'll pre-pay for this course now. Add it to Ripple Training and I'll buy it today and wait for it to be finished.
I agree and I’d pre-pay for it as well

Please finish this, Steve. I would definitely purchase
Great content and looking foward to additional tutorials. I have multiple iPhones and Tentacle Sync E units. Thanks!
Excellent video. I would definitely purchase a course pitched at this level. Thanks.
Great timing with Final Cut for iPad 2 and Final Cut Camera coming, probably by June 10 :)
Yes I am interested in the Black Magic Camera app tutorial
I would definitely be interested. Great video Steve
Yes this would be be a worthwhile purchase purchase

Yes it is a subject I would pay for
👍

Great tutorial. Please finish the iPhone/Blackmagic app lesson plan. I'm using my 15 Pro Max as a second camera now on paying jobs.
Awesome. Keep iPhone and more on the Blackmagic Camera app coming. I’m using the iPhone 15 Pro Max more and more every today. Great stuff Steve!
Thank you for sharing!
Although it’s not relevant to me any more, I have friends who would benefit from tutorials such as this.

Finish the tutorial. I'll purchase it.
Me also Steve pelase finish it and I wil buy it. I looked several times to see if RT already relesed a traning

Great Video. Can other TCG Brands be sync up with Blackmagic Cam App?

You can shoot in BRAW at 3 levels of compression in 6K or you can shoot in ProRes up to 4K. I really like this camera.
Isn't it an issue using these with iPhones since they shoot VBR. Timecode will drift
@@bluestv8161 Apple ProRes is VBR - whether recorded on a phone or a cinema camera.
@@bluestv8161 VBR and timecode are two different concepts and don't affect one another.
YES, PLEASE, forge ahead! I do have the iphonographers and Simon Horrocks (Patreon), but neither goes into production detail like this! YES PLEASE!
It isn't clear to me in what scenario this would be helpful. A camera without audio? If all cameras are recording video and audio, there isn't a need. Am I missing something?
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Can you edit an already recorded video with three iPhones?, Or it has to be live switching?
So how is the Black magic pulling in the TC via mic jack, but not recording it to audio? Do you just have the mic jack audio recording disabled in the BMCC menu ?

iPhone is not variable frame rate - if it were, it would be impossible to prevent sync drift
Like 👍
Not of interest to me, but looking forward to a video on the Final Cut Camera.
Not for myself thanks
I love your tutorials and effects, but I would not pay for this one. Learning about this is not a priority for me.
No. I would not buy this tutorial. The promo email I got emphasized a tutorial on the BM camera app on the iPhone 15, but this video has very little to do with that compared to the ad content for the Tentacle device. Not cool.
Um it was a single lesson as part of a much longer tutorial that IS focused on the BM Camera App.
No thanks of no interest to me
Thanks!
Thank you Joseph!
