The process for a newbie is fascinating…..half way through this video I am seeing “ Granny’s China “ coming alive and it is exciting…..can’t wait to see the next steps…..
Thank you so much Sherry. We were enjoying a special dinner with family over the weekend, so of course Granny's china came out, and I did think then about how Granny would love to know that it's still treasured now, and how surprised she would be that it inspired a painting on a denim jacket, but I've always loved the design and it makes me very happy to use it in this way - bringing it alive is just how it feels, you're exactly right! :)
Great painting techniques & tips for those who want to paint fabric..like me! Love all you videos Annie, upccycling, slow stitching. Thanks for sharing your ideas & talents with the world!
It’s so pretty! When I was a teenager my friend painted everyone’s denim jackets. My brother still has his. It’s over 40 years old. It still looks good 😊
Thank you very much BB, wow, that's amazing your brother still has his painted jacket and it's still looking good! I have some more ideas brewing for different garments painted with designs inspired by china and things - like say folksy bargewear designs on a black leather jacket, or willow pattern on a blue denim ... hey you coulld paint Cookie on yours :)
@@artyfartyannieI look forward to see what you create 😊. That’s a great idea. I have my sons from when he was about 13 and it should fit me again soon 😊 I can try
Thank you Annie for your video and sharing your painting with us. I loved you taking the pattern from some vintage China that means so much to you. I have always watercoloured so never heard of a wet palette. Excellent that you demonstrated a home made one. My computer is ill at the moment so I am on an old Kindle, I shall be there on Wednesday but won't see the chat. Looking forward to it.
Hi Carol, oh no a poorly pc is not helpful is it? Hope you get it sorted soon, but we'll know you're there with us even if you can't see the chat. Thank you for watching this, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and yes it's a lovely way for me to use the design from my Granny's china service, I've loved it since I was a little girl and still do. We were using the dinner service for a special family dinner at the weekend and I know my Gran would be happy to see us all still enjoying it, though not sure what she'd make of the denim jacket idea! :)
Have fun with it Diana - I'm looking for something else to paint next, this was so satisfying to do. I'm thinking maybe leather, as the paints are supposed to work on leather too ... :)
Lovely idea. Looks great Annie. I got an old denim jacket it’s black ish old, I am going to add sashiko stitch and I thought maybe a bit of my own printed material ( yep finally done something in printing I like ) himm could be fun to paint on it though might need to rethink. Sorry I miss the waffle live but I did watch on the Friday well was in background as I am getting ready a few special ornaments this year for my old folks who I decorate Christmas trees for. Have a great week and will be watching the waffle 🧇 on Friday. ❤
Thanks Paula -ooh please share some pics of your denim jacket when you do it, I'd love to see. Ah I know the Wed waffle is awful late for you guys, thanks for watching on Friday though. We'll keep the monthly one to the same day and time as always, so hopefully you'll be able to join us for that, although of course it will be horrible early for you I know. How many Christmas trees will you be doing this year? It's so sweet of you to make special ornaments for them too, you're such a generous soul Paula xo
Thanks for your question - if you watch towards the end of the video, when I come back in the morning, I do talk about how it feels once dried and show how although it feels a little stiffer, I can still easily put a pin through it, so I think it will be ok to stitch into. I also talked about the heat setting part during the video - all about how you need to set it with a hot iron for five minutes, use paper/cloth to protect the iron, also how you can put the whole thing in the oven if it's not possible to iron it, in order to make it permanent and washable. As promised, I will let you know during the next video how it went, after I've finished the painting. Hopefully it will be done in time for WIP & Waffle WEdnesday tomorrow :) Hope that helps xo

Interested in how it feels is it soft or stiff? And heat set techniques to survive washing
