I've had my insulin for over a month, but just got the needles today (so I had 30 days to worry about taking it). I watched a dozen or so different videos. I plotted, planned, choreographed, and dreaded the entire procedure and the sheer agony of "pencil sized" needle before gritting my old guy teeth and swabbed my upper thigh for the injection. I pulled the caps off the needle (wow... that needle's really small, huh?), squinted as I shoved the length of the needle into my leg (wait... is it IN?), pressed down the plunger and waited 5 extra seconds before pulling it out and examining my "non-existent" wound. I've been dreading THIS? I literally felt nothing. No needle, no sensation (burning or otherwise). It's more painful having to drink diet soda! Thanks for walking me through this.
So my fiance was rushed to the E.R with a blood sugar of 1746, he became lifeless before my eye's 😢. It's been 9 month's 2 weeks today and he's type 2 diabetic. I give him his shots because he just won't do it 😅 and that's ok I definitely don't mind, it beats the alternative. Anyway thank you from the bottom of my heart because I've noticed some things I had been doing incorrectly. Your video was a great help to me. I wasn't pinching enough meat, wiping the pin, and cleaning the area as well as you did, so thank you a million❤❤❤
Thanks this is my first time after having to go off a low carb diet that I had been on for years it took about 1 1/2 years before I felt the effects of high sugar the I tested 550 so my doctor gave me the pen which I thought after being a medic I wouldn’t have a problem but this was all new tech to me so thanks
Thank you for putting yourself out there! I literally learned today I have to start insulin. I have been upset and nervous. This video is a life saver! ❤️
I just learned how to take my shots today I was scared but it's not that bad and this my first time taking insulin cause my suger has been over 400 the last few months so I have to take 2000 mg of metformin with my two different insulin I have to start taking now
So happy to have been able to help. I also didn’t have guidance on taking insulin when I was first prescribed and having someone show me would have taken away a lot of anxiety. 🫶🏾
I just got put on insulin today and the first thing I did after my doctor’s appt was come find your page for a tutorial on how to inject with the pen. Your page has been a Godsend! I am so happy I found you on UA-cam and follow you.
I was just diagnosed with LADA, and have just started insulin. Sadly I was not instructed on how to take insulin, I had to look it up on my own. So after yesterday's debacle where I basically injected a ton of air into myself which is bad because im also on blood thinners and injected it right into lean meat and a vessel, I'm glad I found this video. Today's injection went a lot smoother. Thank you so much ❤
Omg girl you helped me help my mom. She's had a horrible experience with needles since she was a child (she's now 72). My mom is diabetic and i wanted to start giving her, her insulin and she was scared to let me. She would literally sit down with pen in hand for an hour psyching herself out but after watching your video I gave her the shot and it didn't even hurt her at all, just a baby pinch she said. So I'll be giving her her insulin from now on. Thank you!❤❤❤
My husband was just diagnosed and given 2 pens last night. The nurse explained a lot, but she also said “as a nurse. I wouldn’t typically suggest this, but when it comes to diabetics and what you need to do dosing wise, there are some pretty good videos” You were the 2nd I found and you made it super simple. Thank you! Subscribed for more diabetes/life info.
Im so glad it was helpful! I felt the same when I was first diagnosed, and once I got comfortable with the injections I made this video to help others who might be a little lost. Injecting yourself isn’t easy!
My son is 33 and is autistic. We just spent 2 days and nights in the hospital, his blood sugar was almost 400. Now I have to test his glucose and give him an injection every night. Tonight was the first night I had to give it to him as the nurses were giving it to him while we were there. They didn't show me how to do anything so I've been using UA-cam to learn. I followed your video and even though I was terrified, I gave him his shot. He said "You did it! Good job!" Then he gave me a high five. Thanks again for the video! ❤❤
I'm so happy for you and him that you got through it together. I know it can be so tough to do that first injection. You deserve that high 5 and more, mama!
This morning is my first injection with a pen - thank you for taking the time to make this video. For me, yours is the best/most thorough of all the videos I watched this morning; yours answered all my questions. And you are such a happy vibrant person - made it all the more nice to watch. Thank you again!
Thank you for this video. My diabetes was well controlled without medications until I got pregnant. Now I need insulin, and I was stressing my first dose. Lol. You helped so much! I subscribed.
I'm too scared to start the injection.. I almost cried while watching other videos. You seem to be very friendly and you kinda gave me hope that it's painless and even I can do this❤ thank you so much and God bless you girl!
I felt so overwhelmed I literally cried, poke this inject that....my head was spinning. I accidentally ran across your channel and I now feel like it was no accident, I needed help to learn what to do and how to do it. THANK YOU
Thanks Mila! I started 3 days ago. I did it right in the doctor's office the first time, but have been doing it wrong (didn't remove the inner cap! Duh!) for the last two days. No wonder it wasn't having any effect on my BG readings! I thought "I can't even feel the needle, this is great!". Your video has helped me a lot, especially with lessening the anxiety regarding all of this. Bless you!
Thank you for this video. I am using insulin for the first time, so I searched for a video, found this one, and you made my first try a success and easy. Thank you again.
Thank you for posting this! I have gestational diabetes and need to start insulin. My OB only when over how to get the pen and needle ready. Nothing about cleaning the site or holding the needle in for 10 seconds or so after injecting. I'm glad I watched this before my first injection.
Thank you so much for this video, Mila! I have to help my elderly Mum with the long acting insulin injections. I have been feeling so stressed, overwhelmed, and scared that I’ll stuff it up and accidentally harm her 😢 Your video has helped so much!! Thank you again 🙏🏻

Have to check twice a day. Do humalog injections twice a day. I watched your video it made me feel better. Other videos didn't. I just subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for the video. My second day taking an injection, and so happy you mentioned there could be a burning sensation. I had that yesterday and was a little worried. @@TheHangryWoman that makes sense but do you know the 20 minute rule? So you don’t inject insulin 20 minutes before or after a shower. If you do then the body absorbs it faster.
Hi Hangry Woman, greetings from India. Thanks for such a wonderful video. I am a first timer and I'm 67... how are you doing and is your sugar controlled now? Love and regards
Hello. I have a question. I understand that after you open the insulin it doesn't matter if you refrigerate or leave outside , the expiration date will be after 28 days. You said that if you refrigerate the expiration date will be the one printed .
Good question! The manufacturers say that once opened it lasts 28 days at room temperature or else longer reduces the potency. I personally haven’t had an issue of reduced potency, but if you’re using an expired insulin, track your blood sugars very closely to be sure it’s actually working.
Thank you for the demonstration! I was/am taking Metformin & Glimiperide and the doc just started me on Tresiba. One question: I was prescribed 10 units daily and got two pens w/200 units each (enough for 40 days). Each pen came with 7 needles, but you're supposed to use a new needle every day. 7 x 2 = 14. So 14 - 40 = -26. I'm 26 needles short. 😐 You take 30 units so you have barely enough. Crappy.
Thanks Mila, do you still take Ozempic too? My doctor was saying that I might have to go on insulin. I have had type 2 for years but it was being controlled by metformin and jardiance. It's only in the last month or so that i have started to use pens. Thank you for your channel. Of course I know the basics of diabetes, but this is a whole new level for me.
Yes! I take both. The combination actually works better than each alone. I've noticed my blood sugars are better when I'm on the combination rather than just insulin, or just Ozempic.
I just did my first insulin shot. Only 10 units. My dr said we're going to try it for a few weeks to get my BS under control and then she might take me off. I'm so mad at myself for allowing this to happen. Shame on me!! Now I need to turn this ship around. Grrr 😖
I've had my insulin for over a month, but just got the needles today (so I had 30 days to worry about taking it). I watched a dozen or so different videos.
Have you had to worry about your blood sugar going too low now that you're on both?
thank you!
Thank you so much
Thank you.
Much thanks
Can you carry it to be used before a meal out side in a coffee house & do you refiiied or dispost
I just did my first insulin shot. Only 10 units. My dr said we're going to try it for a few weeks to get my BS under control and then she might take me off. I'm so mad at myself for allowing this to happen. Shame on me!! Now I need to turn this ship around. Grrr 😖
What does it mean when your injection site is itchy ,red, and becomes raised up after injection?
How long does an insulin pen last you? And do you need to throw it away or just somehow put new insulin dispenser in the same pen?
Thanks!
