@Timothy Blackburn Actually, a lot of people do want exactly that, hence the packed house . . . and the creation of Cirque Du Soleil which is much more aligned to a rock concert acrobatic musical light show with special effects san's magic. I recommend checking out some of these in person, pretty amazing spectacles.
Chris Angel made Magic “cool” when it was thought of to be for kids. He put theatrics back into the show making it like a rock concert (which makes sense since he’s selling huge venues out.) so the general public could relate to it better. He “pulled back” the proverbial curtain on the glamour Copperfeild displayed with his clean cut “pretty” magic and brought fire, grit and the everyman back into the forefront. Magic was something anyone could do, cause Chris was a fuckup like us!
Magic was aways cool, i was an adult already when Copperfield was doing half of this stuff and i watched everthing, together with everyone that i knew.

Watching Copperfield live in Vegas was amazing with everything he performed and he was so funny as well. One of the best things I’ve ever seen!
I personally hated David Coperfield : he was tired and bored on stage. The illusion were the best.....but he wasn't there that night....it was about 10 yrs ago.
@@aliaslu Saw him few months ago and I agree with you. Boring show, good illusions but Copperfield was going through the motions. Criss Angel's show was super energetic and great illusions.

Copperfield live was amazing to experience. As a child, his shows had a huge impact and hooked me on magic. The dancing rose was the first trick I performed for my family, complete with the music he uses.
I LOVE Davids approach on that ring vanish. The move looks really interesting done that way. Weird angle to start the move, but it looks super dope because of it.
Also going beside her with hugging her and showing the vanish infront of her nose was really nice touch.
All this classic guys really are classic for the reason. Hes smooth in his movements AF

Exactly why his trailer does nothing to make me wanna see it. If I am gonna go see a magic show based off of a trailer it is because that trailer wowed me with magic. Telling me how I feel about a show that I haven't even seen yet is not going to win my money...

Also, I worked as a light rigger, and can confirm, we had a lot of lights at conferences, including two (TWO!) Christie dual-head 6P laser projectors! Not to mention all the LED panels, each one of which contained 400+ tiny lights.
I’m a 13 year old inspiring magician and your the reason that I started so thank you for doing videos I love them.

Also, the Honus Wagner T&R card is another Chris Kenner invention. The actual name of it is ‘Torn Asunder’. Last I knew, it was exclusive to DC (like anything of his that DC performs).
Penn & Teller was the best show I’ve seen in person. I watched Copperfield as well as Sigfried and Roy (Pre tiger accident) P&T was hands down my favorite, because of both skill and comedy.
i was lucky enough to go on stage with P&T, made my life.

Yeah, it wasn't fair or entertaining or funny. I like both and not a fan boy of either but he was just making fun of marketing. I have studied marketing (business management) and things have changed a lot in the 30 years since Copperfield was on top (i saw him in '94 and he was awsome btw). Breaking down a magic show and a person based on marketing is just ignorant.... Cheers.

I remember Copperfield doing a whole lot of groundbreaking illusions in the 80s. Was a huge fan, and I know he inspired many current illusionists to push their own abilities and skillsets. :)

Criss Angel is actually who got me into magic so I have a respect for him. He is a bit more flashy than necessary but it is an entertaining show (I have seen him live in Vegas) and he has gotten many people introduced into magic so you have to give him that
He also got many people into that emo skin.
Same , I got into magic in the same era, but he does try hard way too much. If we're talking about being a freak magician, i think Blaine can give Criss a Roundhorse kick for that

I actually think that Criss Angel is an incredible showman; he’s a theatrical performer who creates magical moments to entertain us - by any means necessary - and as Television is his main theatre, he has the right to use whichever method works the best, regardless of ‘stooges’ or TV devilry. We have to put the method aside and allow him to entertain us. Although most of us laugh at him, we are still entertained. I think that he knows exactly what he’s doing and he plays up to it.
David Copperfield however, Pete Mckinnnon and I once swapped his slippers on stage so he put them on the wrong feet! We also fell asleep at the same show LOL.

funny, I almost walked out of a criss angel show for how bad it was, I was moved to a different seat due to audience size and had the perfect spot to see through a bunch of this tricks. It just ruined any immersion when at least every 3rd trick was blatantly obvious from my seat.

We were fortunate enough to see Copperfield about 3 times when our family was young. Loved his shows because he was so self effacing. Some of his illusions had a touching story behind them that told somewhat of life's lessons. And he also had the In Your Face illusions. NOBODY compares. We saw Criss Angel's road show a few weeks ago. No big illusions. very subdued but very entertaining. He told great stories as well. His show Vegas show is more spectacle and lights. They're 2 different types of shows. Completely different. It's a relative comparison; it's what you like in a magic show. But what you must remember,who's been doing it longer. Who has set the bar so high for other aspiring magicians to try and strive towards. [ And that includes Criss Angel ] Copperfield was prime before Criss Angel was even born. To me, you can't beat old school. Just my opinion folks.

Ok now, in all fairness to Chris, I’m a marketing guy. One thing that Chris has done is marketed and promoted himself like a boss. Yes it’s over the top hyperbole but it’s to sell tickets. I appreciate it from that standpoint. As you know there are a TON of magicians that have mad skills that are relegated to obscurity because they don’t know how to pimp themselves

Copperfield is beyond Legend. I watched all his specials growing up. I'd see one show up in the tv guide (way before there was a menu guide on the actual tv), and see a special later in the week. Find a good VHS tape I wanted to record over, program the VCR and hope to God it didn't mess up. Having seen him live a few times, it lives up to the hype.
It's funny that the trailer you saw for Copperfield was him showing off some of the "easy" sleight of hand stuff he's done, and not the grand illusion specials he did. :)
Also, Copperfield has a spot at the MGM Grand, vs Angel playing at Planet Hollywood. Biggest name? no, not even the biggest name on the strip lol

Yes, Criss Angel is one of the biggest names in Magic. Maybe not as popular as Cooperfield or even Blaine. Regardless he along with P&T, Copperfield and Blaine are the most popular magicians in the world due to them being on TV when Magic on TV was still hype.

Haven't watched this video yet but wanted to comment because Criss Angel does a lot of "tricks" that I think would be frowned upon by most magicians. When I was young, my mom went on a vacation to Las Vegas and happened to come across Criss Angel (this was while he was filming his Mind Freak series). She told me that Criss Angel had approached her and showed her a playing card.
Several minutes later, he "randomly" selected my mom from among the bystanders and asked her to think of a card (with the obvious implication that she was to pretend to think of the card he showed her). My mom played along, and reacted as though she was astounded by his mystical powers. Fun fact: During the intro of the show, while they are playing a bunch of clips, they sampled my mom's "Oh my god!" reaction (so she was essentially in the intro of the show, at least the audio portion).
I would wager that a lot of David Blaine's magic is done the same, although I'm not big into magic by any means and don't know, although his ability to read minds has no other explanation in some cases (based on the footage).

Copperfield and Angel in my opinion are both entertaining, I've seen both of their Vegas live shows. Its sort like comparing going to a classical/ pop vs a heavy metal concert, you're going to be mind blowned... But in my deepest POV, Copperfield will always be my Fav.

Went and saw Copperfield live when I was a kid and he had me come up and be apart of his performance it was a ton of fun.
Love this video because A) I remember watching the show of Coppefield's trailer you showed when it aired on tv. I saw them all when they aired... Loved the parts when he performed viewer participation before/ after commercial breaks... Very nostalgic, thank you for that! And then theres B.)... I enjoy your disdain for CA... Lol... I do own his magic set... But use his deck for my Bart Harding Deck... A+++

Idc if they are cringy now.....I was 8 and saw Copperfield in person in Anchorage in like 92', and he blew my mind. Floated, made elephants disappear. IT WAS RAD!!!!!! AND, it was one of the last time with my aunt before she passed, so I absolutely loved it. And I'll always love it. Cant take that away
