Sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know of a method to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
I stopped using Clarity when they introduced the "Texture" slider. It's more subtle and much more effective in my opinion. I find most people, and I am guilty of this at times, is over saturating an image. I have been going for a more film like look lately. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
Evan, you are SUCH a legend man. Your photography videos are rare pieces of straight GOLD. You touch on some serious pain points that so many people struggle with, and don't just use click bait titles to then talk about basic stuff that everyone can figure out themselves..
My dilemma is trying to find my own aesthetic... the obsession with presets and having individual styles has led me down a path where I feel I need all of my photos to look the same. Really struggling to make that happen while keeping my photos clean and natural.
I think a lot of people struggle with this and just end up using some presets made by a UA-camr who shoved it down their throat. It's incredibly hard to make money in photography, and youtube as well so they try and tell you that you need their presets in order for your photos to look good.
just don't use preset , play with the settings and overtime you will develop your style , you can't achieve your style quickly it take a lot of time , trials and errors and patience , so stop using thoses preset and make your own when you can , preset are imo pretty trash to use unless you have the same aestetic in the first place , but if you are already able to understand how to achieve certain looks then you can make your own presets instead of using other people presets
Yes!! My exact problem that I felt no one else has a problem with. Every once has their own style or uses someone else. I just wanna make my own but can't figure out what it is!
Tip number one is the best take away. For me personally removing the distractions in the photo before I start getting creative adds so much more value to the photo. Thanks so much!
It feels dishonest to me personally. Adjusting colors is fine because in the end, they're an inexact representation from the start. But changing the composition feels like cheating.
@@RanftEvan fair enough haha i found this out when i really got into portraits, i couldn't believe how much time was wasted in Light room waiting for that tool.
Absolutely agree. I get very OCD with my distraction removal, and find PS to be way more efficient. It’s a shame they can’t implement spot healing into Lightroom in the same way as they do with PS.
But then you have an additional file to deal with, increasing disk space significantly. I like to do as much as possible in Lighroom and only go to Photoshop when I have to.
@@Jigsaw407 that's also fair. can't compete with Photoshop though in certain aspects! I do in depth retouching and LR doesn't do the trick. Worth the extra file for quality of edit.
Mind blown at the sharpening mask. I'm new to light room and photos in general, I picked it up for a quarantine hobby, but that's the first time I've seen it :) thanks man. Subbed!
Really appreciate this video. Retouching small details like the first example is something I did way back when I started photography. Somehow I forgot the huge difference something like that can make. This video reminded me to continue sharpening my blade.
Your running theme seems to be ‘keep it natural’. I totally agree; and keep as minimal editing as I can get away with; yet still making it clean! Great tutorial!
Evan Ranft Another thing I felt made my work look a bit meh, is the overuse of the temperature slider and/or the split toning. It’s an ongoing battle with so many things do choose from.
I love my clarity slider 😭😂, I don’t go all the way hard right just a little to avoid the aforementioned halo. I love the very soft glow and smooth appearance it gives. It’s subjective I guess :}
I FELT ATTACKED WHEN HE SAID ABOUT "CLARITY" I GUESS ITS TIME IM GONNA STOP USING IT LOL EDIT: I FEEL GUILTY AS WELL OF USING THE "FADE CURVE" im so trash lol
There’s still a time and place for a boost of clarity and a strong fade. It really depends on the image and your vision for it. Don’t do things just because you think they look good, also ask yourself why you want to add more clarity, why you want to add a fade etc. It’ll give your edits some direction.
Great video bro. I think the big misconception people have when they use presets is that just one click and it looks good on any photo and not thinking that they should be adjusting it to fit the image.
when it comes to talking in circles you are a KING. In the first minute you said 6 times one and the same thing. At 2 mins you are still talking about HUGE MISTAKES TO AVOID... like what the fuq

Even after years of using LR i never touched Sharpness masking and that could be useful! Thanks especially when Sony Cameras have a sharpen of 40 in camera
That’s always the goal! Something a lot of viewers don’t know is these videos are WAYY harder to make them my vlogs because of all the extra time put into making sure the examples/my words. So comments like this really mean a lot! 🙏
One thing I am struggling big time is the so called distraction. I find certain elements to be an additional detail that illustrates the entire depth of a moment. Before Photoshop even existed all of those little lights and details might have been okay or still a great image for everyone What I find pleasant tends to be a distraction for other photographers and what I find distracting is not a big deal for others, so at the end idk..... It feels that removing certain distraction can be subjective which is why I prefer my client to choose what they wish to be removed or what deserves to stay Anyone please correct me if I am wrong
Appreciate this. Although I still take it image by image like you said, these were helpful points to at least be conscious of. Amateur or not. I will definitely sub 🤘
Oh man, Instagram is full of overfaded images RN. I think a lot of people try too hard for that faux film look, lots of fade and grain. I find it distracting to what could be a really good image.
AAAAAAAHHHHH that masking in sharpening!!! didnt knw that. No wonder I can nv find an optimal amt of sharpening. The first few tips were also things I changed as I progress. I used to fade my photos a lot and use a lot of clarity. Nowadays nt so much.
I see the appeal of pre-sets, but I also see they can cause more harm than good as pointed out in this video in the "color gap" examples. I rather enjoy the editing process so prefer to work on each image without presets.
I believe everyone has the creative freedom to do their edits just the way they want,..bad editing doesnt really exist if the person editing it is enjoying the photos..
Biggest Mistake (for me) from a lot of people = using LR presets and export them directly... There are so much Pictures on Instagram where you cleary see that is 1 click editing...
Thanks for watching everyone! Hope y'all have a great weekend!
Love to watch your every single video ❤️❤️❤️❤️
What the lamp on the background?) can’t find it :(

At some point everyone loved going to town on the clarity slider 😂
It felt like a personal attack to me 😂
Why do I get offended 😹
For real.
its so tru tho
😂 We all live & learn
Me: oh wow that fade looks dope!
Evan: this fade is not doing anything good for us.
Me: ew that fade sucks
Lol yeah that fade was wayyy too much
hahahaha exactly.. 100% felt same 🤣

I struggle with the opposite, all my photos feel randomly different. My insta page looks so random sometimes 😂

I have this issue right now Its like I have no preference or opinion while editing I don't know wut direction to take the edit

It feels dishonest to me personally. Adjusting colors is fine because in the end, they're an inexact representation from the start. But changing the composition feels like cheating.
cleaning up photos like at 2:51 is SOOO much faster if you go into PS and use the spot healing brush. Way less laggy.
I agree! I for the sale of the videos simplicity I wanted to keep everything in Lightroom, but you’re right 👍

The sharp mask!! What a tip. Will definitely incorporate into my work.
These tips are pure gold! Thanks Evan!
Your videos are always insightful. I really enjoy them and your photographic style.
That was actually really dope and spot on. Great video.
love your work man ordered your book the other day can't wait

Great tips for beginners! Thanks Evan!
I am guilty of using too much fade. This video came at a good time! Love your content!
Haha we all are at some point or another!!
Evan Ranft Another thing I felt made my work look a bit meh, is the overuse of the temperature slider and/or the split toning. It’s an ongoing battle with so many things do choose from.
Thanks for that sharpening tip! I didn’t know what that “mask” did for the longest time 😂
Thanks for this! I’m definitely going to start applying this to my photography!
Dope tips and well explained. The sample photos were solid and explaining the current step on multiple photos really did it for me!
woah thanks so much for these tips! learn something new with your videos :)
Thanks a lot. The last Hint with holding command (or Alt in Windows) really helped a lot. :)
I love the way you teach! Thank you for this video. My favorite tip was to use mask for sharpening. Never touched that slider before lol.
These are just his opinions. All depends on your look
Play.It.Off yeep agreed with you. It depends!!!
Eh, sort of
Love the consistent content! Thanks for these tips
Dope! I tend to overdo the faded look, thanks for this cool reminder.
I was just editing some fashion portraits. Perfect timing!! Thanks Evan!🔥
Love to hear that! 🙏
Amazing! Thanks for this video Evan.
Your presets are on POINTTTTT🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks for these tips especially the clarity one, I'm definitely one of those people 😅
Same lol
Samee
I love my clarity slider 😭😂, I don’t go all the way hard right just a little to avoid the aforementioned halo.
I love the very soft glow and smooth appearance it gives. It’s subjective I guess :}
Woww really new idea. Never saw these in other photos. Thanks
Always love advice on LR editing. Can always find new tricks. More please!
Gave me a lot to consider, thanks Evan! Also feel that option + masking slider is a great tip, using it loads. Keep it up!
Great tips , thanks again Evan !
I FELT ATTACKED WHEN HE SAID ABOUT "CLARITY" I GUESS ITS TIME IM GONNA STOP USING IT LOL
EDIT: I FEEL GUILTY AS WELL OF USING THE "FADE CURVE" im so trash lol
haha no, ur not trash, we all have done these things😂
The amount of "lol" you include is showing your lack of confidence..... big up, you are way better than you think.

Not as criminal as using caps lock
Everything being talked about is subjective. If you like that clarity look go for it.
Great video bro. I think the big misconception people have when they use presets is that just one click and it looks good on any photo and not thinking that they should be adjusting it to fit the image.
Sharpness masking is a great tip, always struggle to get sharpness spot on. Thanks for sharing
the sharpening tip really helped!
dudeeeee this video is sick , im subscribing rn

Yo thank you!!! Means a lot 🙏
well done, good job ! :)
i learned some tricks in this video 👍
Never knew about the sharpness masking feature!!!
I cant see the color gap thing he mentioned. I can tell the photos different but i can't see what the "gap" is... Anyone?
Im having the same issue. The photo looked fine either way to me. They looked different, sure. But both looked fine.
same here
very helpful, thank you!!
Thank you for this! Keep up the great videos!
Really appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
The masking tip was brilliant! There's always something new to learn✊🏾

Hi thanks for the tips, really help me a lot :)
Its actually really important to always look at the basics from time to time so you dont lose the most basic things
I’ve been addicted to your channel lately missed so much value in past videos just watched them! I’m only 3 hours from you too bro!
That’s always the goal! Something a lot of viewers don’t know is these videos are WAYY harder to make them my vlogs because of all the extra time put into making sure the examples/my words. So comments like this really mean a lot! 🙏
Learned a lot, thanks!!
Pro Tip. If you want a clean edit, don't use presets all the time.
Yes and no. I use my own presets but I always adjust them after applying. They’re a good starting point to start the look you want
So busy with Multimedia works recently.. I missed some of your videos evan, but not this one! 👌
Glad you could be here!
Yeah! Multimedia artist hustle anyway 🤙
The sharpening tip is 🔥
Evan Ranft, the king of fade has spoken. ;)
Thanks for the tips Evan - looking forward to shooting Atlanta one day.
as always, super helpful bro. def been making these mistakes, but hey, its a process right?

Maybe it is just me but the only thing I get from the videos you put out make you seem like a god and everyone else sucks at photography.
Thanks that was really helpppppuflllll
I believe everyone has the creative freedom to do their edits just the way they want,..bad editing doesnt really exist if the person editing it is enjoying the photos..
Any good preset packs out there that I should be aware of. Tried Jared Polins but would like to experiment with others. Free is good too.
Would you consider cottin candy clouds during golden hour color gap? Ive been taking those type of pics a lot and find myself using it
