Way to go, your musical selection is on point, cruising down the highway. It was congested a bit, but traffic still managed to move briskly making it a comfortable ride!!
Good choice Brent. I've always enjoyed driving the 118 through Rocky Peak. Might I add that CA 23 freeway, also offers an astonishing scenery with its seemingly endless graceful green hills (going southbound and northbound).
Thanks for the video! i grew up in L.A. and Pasadena most all my life before moving to E. Riverside Co. and then SD. I once knew L.A like the back of my hand. But watching this video, it occurred to me that I'd NEVER been on the 118 Frwy although I've seen the transition signage many times. BTW, if you think Rocky Point is beautiful, you should take a trip along the I-15 between the rapidly expanding bedroom community of Temecula in Riverside Co. and the SD suburb of Escondido in San Diego Co. It's 20 miles of the same type scenery with many of the boulders right up to the freeway's edge. What highlights it's scenic beauty is it's 8 lanes with a 4 lane wide grassy median that floats over a rolling landscape! It really should be a Calif natural wonder!! But hurry because of mind numbing Rt. 91 type traffic during morning and evening rush hour from SD to Temecula and points north, CalTrans is cementing the median to extend it's managed Toll-lanes (which compared to others around the country are awesome too!!) 😎
Thanks for posting this. Last time I drove this was during the big drought in '07, so it's nice to see it all greened up! BTW, do you have any videos of 101 thru Thousand Oaks?
@sonysnob1: I've attempted to film it on 3 separate occasions now, and all 3 times, approximately half the freeway was congested (started filming around 1:15 p.m., with the sun just behind my passenger side window). It's really not any different on Saturday's either, and Sunday's have not been convenient for me, for whatever reasons (weird shit seems to always come up on Sunday's!).
@Juliansworld: I filmed this in early April, but it was indeed a fairly cool, crisp day. Traffic on the 118 actually hasn't been too bad, since the recession started, and it's actually free-flowing these days throughout most of the peak commute period.
Lovegainers5 : Oh wow, I really need to delete this video. I appreciate you watching this and commenting, but I've released much improved videos, such as my Interstate 405 video over Sepulveda Pass, after it was widened last year. I'll provide you a direct link to the video below. ua-cam.com/video/zR0wp-0h1ec/v-deo.html
@KalELL1217: Thank you! I'm hoping to re-edit this video in the future, utilizing my new annotation format. See my most recent videos, for an idea of how this video would look with the new annotations. Thanks again for watching.
I live north of Ventura and in order to get to the 405 to LAX or the 101 to Downtown LA or Hollywood I end up bypassing the 101 at Camarillo, taking Santa Rosa to Moorpark Road and getting on the 23 at Tierra Rejada. From there the 23 turns into the 118 and I take that to either the 405 or the 5. It has saved me time whenever the 101 is bumper to bumper in Calabasas.
+OFFICIALDJFLASHBACK : Hey there! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I plan on eventually replacing this video with footage from a better camcorder, and much better editing skills. I'll link you to a couple of Los Angeles-area freeway videos of mine that have a much slicker presentation (along with better footage quality), in case you want to watch.. @wilatemodel: I have videos up from 18 U.S. states already, as well as 3 Canadian provinces, with plans to eventually showcase videos from 40 different U.S. states from my archived drives. Browse thru the playlist, if you haven't already done so.
@integgy95: I believe those are actually part of the Santa Susana Mountains, but *don't* take my word for it. Perhaps one of my viewers can answer this for you. The Sierra Nevada mountain range starts just north of CA 58, which I also have a video of.
@970grower: Cool, glad you enjoyed! I sent you a message in your inbox with some links to my newer videos (which are much improved over what you saw with this CA 118 video).
Never watched this one before. Noticed what the semi driver did at 4:20, getting over right as you were coming up on him. I know it was a merge lane and he had to get over, but, I have seen that a LOT in the last few years (not in merge lanes either). They never used to do that and were considerate on the road. Now it's like they are impatient and have a death wish. :\
Another great video, I used to live in Thousand Oaks, and I used the 118 a lot. Was one of my ways to Las Vegas. 23-118-405-5-14-58-15

Great ride! Only in California do you get 8 lane freeways through mountain areas, love it!

Simi Valley looks like a pleasant place to live. Only the commute to downtown Los Angeles is probably something most people don't look forward to...
I used to love those light green signs on some of the northern and eastern freeways.
