I'm south Indian and why didn’t I realize most of the food prepared is vegan except milk.
South Indian coastal cuisine even replaces the milk with coconut milk.
@@EagleOverTheSea replacing milk with coconut milk is expensive but still can go for soy milk
@@graceebenezer6085 Soy milk and oat milk are both very good replacements and can be very cheap. I think coconut milk has a very strong taste so when I'm just looking for a neutral creamy flavour I use oat or soy.
@@graceebenezer6085 coconut is widely available in South India. So it's more eco-friendly to have coconut milk or soy milk as a vegan alternative in India, as these products are widely cultivated, rather than using oak milk or almond milk.

Tamarind rice aka piliogare is VEGAN. Apparently so is paniyaram (it looks like South indian version of Japanese takoyaki). Ragi balls, parupu vadai (I ahted this growing up but I have become fond of it now), athurasam & the coconut fried dumpling thing is a a great vegan desert options. I'm actually truely amazed at the south indian options that are majority vegan. This was eye-opening for me.

@@yashaswinikrishnan1878 noone's comparing the age of origin of anything here. paniyaram is definetely older than takoyaki (takoyaki was invented in 1935) but they never said that it wasnt. also paniyaram and takoyaki (i've had it in osaka) are totally different dishes.

Since you asked for recommendations I’d really recommend mock meats (duck, chicken, etc) - they’re vegan and taste really good! Tofu is vegan aswell I’d have expected a bit of it here! Other breakfast food ideas: avocado toast, nuts, fruits etc! (A fruit / vegetable smoothie with flax / chia seeds would’ve been amazing omg).
This is a trivial challenge with Bengali food, as long as you stick to mustard oil tadkas. Dal/bhat/bhorta! Most tarkaris (sabzis) & fried foods. I made vegan vegetable chop last year and it was so good! Just replace the egg dip for breading & frying. For more protein: ghugni, dhokar dalna, cholar dalna, kabuli chana, etc. Kolkata-style veggie biryani (just use lemon juice or amchur instead of the yogurt, and probably go for a more neutral oil than mustard lol). But we have a lot of humble, vegan dishes that are zero waste (lau'er khosha chechhki! tormuj khosha bhaja) and very low cost. I was told it was because we were subjected to so many famines and tough times. As a child I was embarrassed of such dishes, but now I realize it's a delicious, unique, healthy blessing. While I do love eating meat, I was raised with so many plant-based options that I often don't notice if there's no mangsho; I'll still be plenty full and happy and high-energy!
As a Bengali vegan, my favourite vegan Bengali food is any Pujo's bhog er khichudi. It surprisingly tastes the best no matter who makes it. 😍

Even north is , if you don't use ghee ..sangri, dal bati, rajma,chole,10s dala , mandwa,100s of bhartas from aloo ,tomato,parwal,to baingan .. indian in general is vegan... except our sweets idk how can we make sweets without ghee and milk

I have to ask, where were the veggies? When I think Indian food dhal, bitter gourd, eggplant, aloo gobi, Bombay aloo, & a dozen other veggie dishes are the FIRST things that come to mind. Isn't there any places doing veganized classic Indian veg food? If not, it's a lost opportunity.
I was thinking the same, there's just so many vegan items available in India just like that.

Came here to say just that.
Aishwarya seemed to take joy in not ordering Shreya a drink to go with breakfast, however I don't recall the rules saying you couldn't make your own and as I understand it "Instant Tasters Choice" is the coffee of choice in India. I do think it's funny how it seems like a big sister having fun messing with her little sister every time Aishwarya and Shreya do a shoot together.
Okay since I’m vegan I would like to share something from my lifetime experience :
1. Rajma chawal : if you ordered jira chawal it is most often made with ghee tadka 💯
2. Mc Aloo tikki is not vegan , atlest bun is not vegan
3. Soya chap is marinated with curd /yogurt
4 . Snacks samosa : while making dough they use ghee 😅
5. Snacks tho Bhot Sari h option mai like pani puri , sev puri, bhelpuri , bhel, bajis, etc etc but main tho Tum log ko indo Chinese food try karna tha nA 😅
As Indians we are so lucky that we got many vegan dishes
Breakfast: dosa ,idli , Akki roti , paranta, poha , upma, sheviya, puffed rice, ragi dosa, like in South Indian cuisine you got many options
For lunch n dinner again when it comes to south India you almost eat vegan food as daily meals
Rice sambar, chapati, all types of curry’s made are often vegan .. like see potato sabji, okra, brinjal, cucumber, capsicum etc
we don't know but maybe the soya chap and rajma chawal were from vegan restaurants? but yes our cuisine is beautiful, cruelty-free and sustainable.
but curd/yougurt is dairy which is not vegan
@@khushi_agrawal milk or eggs are added in most breads and buns, but there are vegan breads too
A lot of bread has milk as one of the ingredients and that's why you cannot be sure. It's best to ask for the ingredients or buy packaged bread with the ingredients mentioned so you can opt for a none dairy one.

What is the craze over having vegan replicas of animal meat, why would someone " who hates animal cruelty" still want to eat a veggie version of the same meat.
@@rake_a_look4985 It's not that it's the craze. It's just that vegans want to make it more accessible and easier for those who are making the transition from non-veg. A lot of people have many reasons to go vegan, but for some it's harder to turn vegan because they love eating non-veg so much. hence, the vegan version of many popular meat dishes just makes it easier for those to transition.

In India it's difficult to find most of the ingredients they use and it's not feasible to cook those everyday. For someone brought up on Indian food, their recipes are an interesting diversion but not very practical everyday.

You know that Oreos are vegan right? Biscoff is vegan. Taco bell has vegan option. Even Starbucks. Bread, store bought pasta are vegan. Ask the chef to replace ghee with any vegetable oil or vegetable oil based butter and you can get your Indian dishes made vegan too. I don't understand why people lose their marbles upon hearing 'vegan'.

A little dissapointed. Could be explored more. There are
many exciting and trending vegan dishes which has equally good and tasty protein replacements like tempeh, natto, falafels prep. And drinks like boba tea. Medetarrian, japanese and malaysian ....all cuisines have good vegan options.

@@user-uu4ck5uh2p nope, this maybe done in non-veg restaurants.. but restaurants aren't supposed to do this. Most places don't if the item is labelled veg. Recipe for French fries is vegan only.
