THE RULES!
1. You earn the same number of points as each country in the final, with the following exceptions
2. Guessing the correct placement of a country earns a bonus 50 pts.
3. If there is a gap of +100 pts between any two countries in the top 5, then the countries in positions above that gap will receive a reduced weight to their points (1st = 75%, 2nd = 80%, 3rd = 85%, etc.)

Sweden - 437 pts (583 x 75%)
Finland - 420 pts (526 x 80%)
Israel - 362 pts (no modifier)
2022 example
Ukraine - 473 pts (631 x 75%)
UK - 466 (no modifier)

I love the song so I'm all for the optimistic thinking but yeah, wild to put a country being debated as a possible NQ as a 2nd place finish. I think they have a better shot of qualifying than people give them credit for but that's all I'm hoping for.
I am dying that Tyler took 2 borderline qualifiers and 2 non-qualifiers haha

@@robertcepo1505 Nope. We specifically avoid looking at odds beforehand. Obviously we see and hear stuff from the online community but we don't go looking for that information.
I'm just glad we recorded this before rehearsals last week, so I was able to be fully invested in them.

We have another kind of draft - we listen to the songs on Spotify (i.e. my husband has had no visuals) sorted per semi final and then pick 5 songs from each semi that we like personally. This year we're late and have only had time to listen to semi final 1 so far. Both my and my husbands favorite this year is Great Britain - way ahead of the others!. For me the others are (in random order): Ukraine, Moldova, Lithuania and Germany. My husbands selections include: Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany and Finland (for lack of better songs he says...and I remind you that he has not seen the visuals ;-) )
If I have time I will add out selection for semi final 2 later on...
Will our options of the songs change during the semi finals - most likely! 😀

Looks like a really even draft this year (Except Tyler ofc.), just like Eurovision itself imo.
Out of the remaining, I'd take Sweden for 6 (how did you forget them?), Israel 8, UK 12, Austria 14, Finland 18.
I kind of assumed people wouldn't vote for Olly because the song is very mainstream, but OMG their staging definitely makes it stand out. I think they will do very well.

Hello to all 4 of you. One question, do you ever plan to come to Europe and watch Eurovision live? I think you could get a press pass because of your YT channel. But you could also get online press pass so you can watch big rehearsals live online 😊
Travel would be pretty pricey but I would love to attend any of the performances. Tyler has promised that we have to go if Moldova or Estonia ever host.
As far as press passes, I had heard that they we're much more strict about who they give passes to now. As a small amateur channel, I certainly wouldn't want to take the place of someone else with more legitimate credentials.

@@MyrtleP Ever since 2012, and especially Italy, the broadcasters have been very tightassed about things; reduced number of press passes for non-actual professional press, not even opening the press center until the 2nd week, etc. THe fun days of Stockholm, Kyiv, Lisbon are gone.
@@MyrtleP As a very small amateur channel I'm here onsite as press this year - it's really not that difficult, don't worry. And the online accreditation is definitely worth considering

Why did the donuts have to be nuclear?
If The Simpsons has taught us anything, it is that everything associated with a nuclear power plant is contaminated with comically high levels of radiation. Therefore, donuts received at a nuclear power must necessarily be nuclear donuts.

I think I've done the math correctly, I have been awake for almost 14 hours, the joys of being an Australian Eurovision fan. I'm not sure if I correctly did the weighing rule, Switzerland beat Ukraine by over more than 100 points, and Croatia beat France by 102 points. I'm not sure if I used the rule correctly, but hey you're welcome. But in both instances we have Carlena taking the crown by being the most consistent player. Technically Maia had all her songs qualify for the final but sh*t happened. While Tyler, holding down the bottom of the table and doing so by some distance, each of the girls had 1 song that got double his point total.
Never change Tyler. Always vote with your heart, your enthusiasm for songs that so very clearly are borderline qualifiers, is the enthusiasm that I strive to have in my everyday life.
Love you all, hopefully, you all had a somewhat decent time in Eurovision Week not spent doom-scrolling feverishly at any opportunity. Thanks again, you're content the last 5 years have seriously become something I genuinely look forward to every season. So let's see what happens, if we meet in Zurich or somewhere else in Switzerland, or AVROTROS create their own counter to Eurovision in protest after the shitfuckery that was the last 72 hours (as of typing).
There is no weighting. The rule was that it only takes effect if there are over 100 point gaps in the top5. There were none, so I would think everyone gets full points for every song. Still, the order would not change. But wow how close Bekah and Carlena were. Congraz for the win Carlena! :)
Maya picked my top 3 favorite songs: Greece, Serbia and Spain. I think she’s winning this year for sure. 😊
What was that with the Rock Paper Scissors?
Either each one plays against each one and you count the wins together or the two winners of the first round play for the places 1 and 2 and the losers of the first round play for the places 3 and 4.
But why did Carlene play against Maya a cecond time before Maya played against Tyler? If Maya would have won she would have had 3 points and already won overall.
We did a 4-team double bracket. 😁

With 15 minutes until the start of semi final 1 - here are the points … ehum, I mean our favorites in semifinal 2. Mine are Denmark, Latvia, Norway, Netherlands and France. My husband are the same except for that he does not understand Europapa at all and prefers Belgium. Now I am only hoping for a very good and enjoyable show without any incidents! Cheers!

Out of the remaining countries you haven't picked, I'd go Luxembourg (15th), Sweden (17th), Finland (14th), Poland (19th) and Austria (21st).
Edit: so I did relatively okay with these, 103 points from Luxembourg, 174 points from Sweden, 38 points from Finland, 0 points from Poland 😶 and 24 points from Austria for a total of 339 points.
You still beat Tyler. He scored 220 (183 from Armenia + 37 from Estonia) 😀
