I am curious, when do companies typically advised candidates they have not been chosen? Before making the offer to the chosen candidate or after that person has accepted an offer? In other words, are candidates (#2, #3) still in play for companies to fall back on, should the selected person for a job decline the final offer?

Thank you for watching and your question. In my experience, I would let applicants know that they have not been chosen once the #1 applicant has accepted. I would only do this if applicants #2 or #3 would be considered if applicant #1 declined. If the applicants were not being considered I would let them know right away as that is the respectful thing to do. Applicants put in a lot of time into recruitment processed as it is important as a Recruiter that we do no keep them waiting unnecessarily.
      Thank you for your comment.😀

I asked for 5,000 more after an official offer in writing exactly how you proposed. They rescinded the offer and said they were moving in another direction. I was shocked, they didn't even give me an opportunity to accept the initial offer. I figured the worst thing that could happen was they would say no and then I would have to choose.

This is a very unfortunate situation and does not happen often. I am shocked they would do this as well and may be a good indicator that they would not be an employer worth working for anyway. In the future, make sure you do your research to see what the market rates are for the position and industry you are applying for. You can always ask if there is room to negotiate as well.
Sorry to hear this was your experience. Don't worry there will be other, better opportunities! 😉

Actually that does happen quite often, I am a mechanical engineer with masters degree and 15 years exp, even the big automotive and EV companies do this ! if you negotiate you will loose the offer, I have exprienced my self, most the cases they dont even entertain you, they will rescind the offer and give it to others, even in most of theses company the standard rule is final interview atleast 3 people and choose minimum 2 for the offer.
Most of these negotiating offer videos tips on youtube ,works in Big Tech companies, not in traditional and old style firms
