      Absolutely it is a very nice professional touch. I would always recommend a follow up thank you. You never know if this could be a very small differentiator between you and another applicant. 😉 Thanks so much for watching and following!

    hello! I want to thank you for all the tips you give :) Right now I am negotiating a job offer and hopefully, I will sign soon. However, there is one thing I don't like about my current situation. At the job posting, it was said that a relocation bonus would be provided. after I applied for the job I believe they updated the job posting and the relocation bonus was not mentioned when they gave the job offer. I have asked about it and they said they were waiting for that to be approved. But it looks like they tried to trick me into signing without it and it doesn't feel good. I still keep being nice but what should I do?

    • @clarkglassford9200

      Thank you for reaching out and watching my content. 😀 I hope you are a subscriber! Be patient as it sounds like they have to get the relocation approved. In many organizations this takes some time due to the expense. If they do not offer relocation and this is one of the main reasons in applying, you will have to determine if the salary and benefits offered is enough to still be interested in the position without the relocation. This opportunity may also be good for your career development so although it is not great that relocation is not available, use the job to progress your career. I hope that helps. Please stay in touch and let me know what you decide!

      Fantastic questions. Yes you should be ready to take notes but always ask first. It is the polite way to start your interview by asking if you can take notes. If they so "no" then at least you know and can proceed without. If they say "yes" then you have an advantage as that helps you keep your answers on track. Good luck! 😀

    Just received a low ball offer and just finished your low ball offer video. I'm waiting to hear back after my counter and now mentally preparing myself to have to walk away because I don't think they are going to budge :(

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 26 днів тому

      Sorry to hear that but at the end of the day you need a certain salary to live your life based on your skills and experiences. If the employer can't meet your counter and what you have asked for is fair based on market rates, then yes you may have to decline. Please let me know how this turns out. Thank you for watching my videos and commenting!

    What if it's a small company, up to 20 people? Would that still apply? Cause it makes sense to have a lowball offer in such a case, in my opinion.

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 28 днів тому

      Yes sometimes smaller companies do not have the ability to keep up with market salary rates. So they may have no choice but to make a lowball offer. If you are an applicant receiving an offer like this you may want to consider other benefits/perks than just salary such as vacation time, proximity to your house, career development opportunities etc. These may outweigh the lowball job offer and make it worthwhile to accept. Thank you for your comments!

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 Місяць тому

      Thank you for watching the video. Before reaching out you should do research on the organization and the person you want to contact (via LinkedIn). It is important that you have general knowledge on both as this will help craft an appropriate message that is personalized. To start you want to keep the introduction simple (sample below): Hi Ms. Smith , My name is Kim Jones and I see that you’re are an agency owner for ABC Inc. I’m a senior Marketing Advisor interested in working in your industry. For the last year, I’ve been following your work, and it’s really impressed me. I particularly loved your campaign recent campaign you did in ABC. I found it very creative and really effective. If you ever have 20 or so minutes, I’d love to hear more about how you started working in the field and what skills you believe are most relevant to the profession. Thank you! Kim This is just a sample and you have to tailor it to every connection. The point is you can see how I have personalized the connection request based on the research you have done at the front end. I hope that helps! All the best in your job search.

    Clark are there any smart ways to increase my earning ability and salary as hvac engineer in Aec construction industry without depending on years of experience which is a pre requisite sometimes to determine salary.. which books would help in this scenario and becoming indispensable or irreplaceable.. I've read be so good they can't ignore you other than this which books would help..

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 Місяць тому

      I don't have any book recommendations but I will say two things. Experience is important and a lot of the time this drives salary. However, you being indispensable to an organization can also come down to the type of work that you are doing and your overall attitude. I would recommend looking for ways to take on meaningful and more challenging project work. This experience can massively help you in crease your earning potential ahead of simply years of experience in the field. This will show your employer your value and want to keep you at all cost!

    I have had many recent applications where no contact to the recruiter was given, only a form should be used. These forms have mandatory fields for salary expectations. How would you deal with that? I tried several things (leving empty or putting in words do not work) but what would be the best option here?

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 2 місяці тому

      Yes I am familiar with this and it will depend employer by employer if they are rejecting your application based on not completing this field. That said, as a Recruiter I am looking for experience for the role I am applying for and fit in my organization. If your meets the criteria I am looking for, I will be contacting you to move ahead in the process. The fact that you have left a field blank does not concern me as I can ask you that question directly. If you are going to complete the salary field, just make sure you have done your research on sites like salary.com and payscale.com so you know what appropriate salary ranges are for similar positions. This at least give you a starting point. Please keep me up to date on your job search and good luck!

    @ClarkGlassford, I have any honest question for you. I've actually experienced the same thing as another commentor whose offer got rescinded after the salary talk. I actually experienced that with an employer. How do I know my ask is reasonable? I want to move above sticking around the same salary each job that I take. But how do I know that I am asking for the most that I can for the position i apply to and the level that I'm at? I've looked at different pay sights and all. And the ranges go from maybe $40,000, probably from the local branch level, to around $200,000 likely the corporate or headquarters salary. The job title is for Customer Experience Manager in a local luxury brand dealership near me. How am I pinpointing good asks? I know the industry--Dealership Sales Managers make $100,000 and more. Thank you for your help

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 2 місяці тому

      Great question and I know this can be frustrating when trying to determine your salary ask. If you have done your research on job sites that is great although from your comments I can see the range is quite large. You can also try networking with people who work within the industry to better determine salary. However, the most straightforward approach is to ask for the salary range at the beginning of the hiring process. It is perfectly acceptable to ask for the salary range for the position you have applied for when you are first contacted by the company. This will allow you to determine if you want to continue in the recruitment process as the range meets your expectations or politely decline. Give this a try and let me know how it goes!

      @@clarkglassford9200Thank you for helping out with this. We're actually at the salary conversation now after getting the lowest salary offer. I just got the call. And let them know I'd give an answer tomorrow morning presenting a counter offer of a $3 increase after 90 days of employment. I wasn't expecting it to be so low. And, we didn't speak hard on salary ranges at all during the interview but I wish I would have. What I was offered was $17 but I was looking for something like $23 at least. Perhaps I should have simply said I was looking for $23 when we spoke on the phone. However, I heard the offer and asked based on their offer. Let me know what your thoughts are if you read this before tomorrow afternoon. And, if you have any other things I could ask for. Thanks Clark so much. P.S. I am curious, when do companies typically advised candidates they have not been chosen? Before making the offer to the chosen candidate or after that person has accepted an offer? In other words, are candidates (#2, #3) still in play for companies to fall back on, should the selected person for a job decline the final offer?

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for watching and your question. In my experience, I would let applicants know that they have not been chosen once the #1 applicant has accepted. I would only do this if applicants #2 or #3 would be considered if applicant #1 declined. If the applicants were not being considered I would let them know right away as that is the respectful thing to do. Applicants put in a lot of time into recruitment processed as it is important as a Recruiter that we do no keep them waiting unnecessarily. Thank you for your comment.😀

    Any tips for situations where the recruiter asks for your salary need and you end up giving them a number? How can I maneuver the offer phase after already giving out too much info?

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 2 місяці тому

      Really great question. If the salary expectation question comes up early in the recruitment process you can always try and respond with "I'd prefer to discuss salary once we get further into the recruitment process and have established that I am a fit for this role and your organization." This allows you to maintain bargaining power if they make you an offer. If they are persistent and want that information up front then provide a range "Based on my experience and market research, I am looking for a salary between $90K - $120K." This approach does not lock you into a specific salary rate and allows you to negotiate within that range if you get to the offer stage. Thanks for the comments and please reach out with other questions!

    Hi Clark, thanks so much for this. I am just at the point where I have to put all this to the test and, for the first time in my life, negotiate. Until now all communication with HR was via email (the interview was on a video call, but did not include a rep from HR). Also, as I have never done this before, I do feel more condifent in writing than I would in online conversation. In another video you mentioned 'so much can get lost in translation'. But is that still true in a post-COVID world? That, plus HR having never called me is making me hesitate on how to best approach negotiation.

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 2 місяці тому

      Thanks so much for watching and your comments! Your negotiation starts with how the potential employer begins the negotiation process. What I mean by this is they email, phone or send a letter with the offer information that starts the process and you can respond accordingly. What you need to make sure of is that whatever terms you agree to as part of your offer (i.e. salary, vacation time, benefits etc.) is sent to you in a written offer format that is signed by both parties. That offer forms your employment contract. I hope that helps and you can see more videos in my Salary Negotiation playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLFvNFQ-aZuZciW4lncwD_SWpqjTvmqEMK.html Good luck and please reach out with any other questions! 😀

Do your research and make sure that you are able to demonstrate added value that you have brought to the organization. This will help set you up for making the ask to increase your salary. Ive been working as a temp employee through an agency since March. I was offered the job on a permanent basis in April (verbally) and I got the offered in writing May. I declined and countered. They came back on Friday with a better title and a 15k bump BUT its still LESS then what Im making now with the temp agency!! 😢 Look, they have high interest in me and I love the job but a 10k hit - I just cant take. This is now our second time coming to the table and im so confused as to what I should even do….

      @clarkglassford9200 2 місяці тому

      This is definitely a challenging situation. The good news is they clearly want you in their organization which is always a great place to be. My advice is at this point, you have been in their recruiting process for several months and your counter has led to a better job title and offer. However, it is not meeting your expectations for salary. You will need to be honest with them regarding your salary expectations. If they cannot meet them, then it may be time to move on. Thank them respectfully for their time and effort if you decline as you never know what may come from this interaction down the road. Good luck and please let me know the outcome!

    Interesting analysis !! Could you suggest better ways- if making big money in corporate world as engineer or in general is the only goal which path is the most suitable to adopt and how like earning promotions quicker, climbing ladder etc or remaining in same position ? Also how is it possible for me in initial stage of career to demand promotions or high pay after 6 months or a year by solving any of their major problems.. does any books on creativity or innovation thinking examples work drastically well in advancing rapid growth..

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 2 місяці тому

      This is just my advice and others may disagree. In the early stages of your career focus on gaining experience and work that builds your ability to be creative, innovative and solve major organizational issues. This may come at the expense of a quick promotion but the experience you gain in your profession will make you highly desirable to your current and future employers and with this, will come far greater promotions and higher paying positions. Experience is massive in accelerating your career. Be patient, strategic and good things will come.😀

    Thank you so much for this video. In my case, I gave my expected sal at the start and they still continued the rounds. But then gave a lowball saying that’s what the sal of other employees I will be working with is. So now they say that they cannot give more hike since the band will change and also the sal for me will be higher. Not sure if it’s anchoring or real. Have told HR to work on it, let’s see. What are your thoughts?

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 3 місяці тому

      Yes wait and see how they respond. They did ask for your salary expectations up front and chose to continue with you. If your expectations were out of their salary range they should have told you. That is the professional thing to do so you don't waste time in a recruitment process only to find out that the company can't meet your salary. You will have to see what they come back with. Are there other areas that are not salary that will perhaps allow you to accept a lower salary (i.e. Bonuses, vacation, pension etc.)? These may be an area worth negotiating. However, you may be in a place where you have to walk away from the offer if they cannot meet your expectations. Let me know how it all goes and good luck!

      @@clarkglassford9200 Hi Clark, thanks for your advice. While they didn’t reach my expected salary, they gave a better offer than the first one after I negotiated. It’s a couple of hundreds less, but at least I didn’t leave that extra money on the table. And best thing is it’s a good firm with lots of extras such as discounts on its products, better med facilities, etc. Plus, the people I will be working under have lots of experience, one of them worked at Microsoft sometime back. So good mentors 🤞🏻. Your video was a bonus for me, keeping my moxie high in the wait and watch period.

    Hi, Thanks for the useful video I have a question I am based out of India. So basically I got a job offer from Comp A which has less fixed component and more into variable pay and stocks Later I got an offer from Comp B which provided me more fixed money as they don't have stock options. But I still wish to join Comp A as they have good benefits. How do I negotiate with Comp A to increase the fixed pay ? But my worry is Comp A will not have budget to match the other offer . So I am much skeptical on how to face this ? PS: both are Product based comp

      Thanks for the comments and reaching out to me on LinkedIn. The approach is knowing what the market rates are for similar positions in this industry and then making a counter offer based on your research and what your experience brings to the role. Be polite and professional with your counter-offer. If they say they can't move on salary then you will have to decide which company has the best total compensation package for you. I hope that helps.

      That is unfortunate and it may be that this is the point you respectfully decline their offer. You can always explore other benefit enhancements suck as medical enhancements, additional vacation, other allowances. However, if the money is too low for your needs then it is probably time to walk away. It is always a tough decision as you have been through an entire recruitment process just to get an offer that is below expectations. Good luck.

Click on "More" and it will give you an option to connect. Once you select "connect" it will give you a further option to write a personalized message. 😉 I'm not sure why LinkedIn has set it up this way. It may be to prevent users from spamming other users. However, you can make personal connections on Linkedin if you follow the above. I hope that helps.

    Great tips ! Really thought what you said about verbally practicing helps. What percent of the average salary for the job posted, would you recommend a person set for their walk away number ?

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 5 місяців тому

      Thanks so much for the comments. Your walk away number is based on a number of factors such as the research you have done to establish market comparators, your experience level and the total compensation offered (i.e. benefits, vacation etc.). There are also other intangible items such as remote work options, proximity to home etc. So your walk away number is a very personal decision based on all of those factors. Now that said, you want to be happy with the salary and 9/10 times there is always room to negotiate. You should be aiming for the mid to higher end of the salary range based on your research. If the offer is coming in lower than that and you feel you have the necessary experience, then you may need to walk. I hope that helps!😀

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 5 місяців тому

      Thank you for your comment and I am very sorry the your job offer was rescinded after such a lengthy job search process. Companies rescind offers offers all the time for a multitude of reasons such as not able to meet salary expectations, change in hiring priorities, a more suitable candidate etc. So a rescinded of an offer may be a result of something else and yet they has attached it to your salary expectations. That said, if it was rescinded as a result of your higher salary ask, this is where it is important to do your research on comparable salaries in similar roles and industries. Salary.com and payscale.com are excellent resources to gauge if your salary ask is reasonable or not. There is always a risk of asking for a salary on the higher end as it can push an employer to rescind if they can't meet your expectations. You will regroup from this experience and the right job offer will come your way. 😉

    Hello Clark. What is the way forward when you made your current salary known to the recruiter with the message that you expect a better salary than that( at the first round itself)? They choose to go ahead with the interviews and eventually offer you something marginally better but not enough. How to negotiate upwards ?

    • @clarkglassford9200
      @clarkglassford9200 5 місяців тому

      The fact that you have made it known to the Recruiter that you expect a higher salary than your current salary, means that you should expect that if they make you an offer, it will be higher. Remember, that Employers expect you to negotiate. So typically the first offer is not the max so you can negotiate and at that point make it know what your expectation are. I hope that answers your question. Please let me know if you need further clarity.

However, as you progress into more senior roles you will need to provide more detail which is difficult to get out in an answer in that short of time. 4-5 min is a good target to aim for in providing a fulsome answer.
