It always amazes me how he can always tell if something is frozen or microwaved
I guess if you sample so many different types of food, you get an idea of what’s fresh and what’s frozen. Like anything, experience helps.
Agreed like the guy below said, I think it’s experience and you can just tell by its look and possible smell
i dunno about frozen but if you microwave enough food you'll know. eg uneven heating, steam coming out from one place, wet base of pizza or sauce is dry

microwaved food isn't very "food" like, so as much as you might like your totino's frozen pizzas, you'll always be able to tell if it's microwaved or cooked in the oven after being frozen
there's always a distinct "softness" or wetness to frozen/reheated food
If you spend enough time with things (spouses lol) you know them inside and out. As a baker, it would be the same with boxed / grocery store cupcakes vs gourmet, as well as pre-made frostings and fresh-made.
Watching Kitchen Nightmares is like working with alcoholics. Almost every case plays out the same and yet you're morbidly curious where the situation is going next.

One thing i admire about this show is how the servers confidence to vent there problems with the store go thru the roof when they see Gordon its like he is a safe space to tell him problems without fear of getting fired or silenced
I mean, he is basically a one man health inspector/union rep on this show lol
Gordon knows that it's usually not the server's fault that the restaurants suck. It's almost always the owners, and occasionally a lazy head cook who has been there for years.
That's probably exactly why Ramsay respects them. They're a library of feedback from past customers, just waiting to be released.

One of many things that impresses me about Gordon, is that no matter how appalling it looks he gives it a proper go, a real mouthful and chews. With what he gets served it takes real courage!
Right?! I could NEVER. I'm really squeamish about gross food. I love gory slasher films, I pick up pet poo and vomit no problem, and I even used to deep clean houses for a living. But spoiled or plain nasty food is where I draw the line lol

This isn't something huge, but mad respect to Ramsey for always having the utmost of respect for the serving staff on a regular basis and often going to bat for them in other episodes. Good to see a famous chef who has mad respect for all parts of the restaurant, especially FOH.

absolutely agree. he like fully yells at the chefs (to be fair, they do generally start it or yell back) but is quite sweet with the staff in most occasions.
The wait staff is almost always doing their job as well as can be expected. Ramsay is, consistently, a man with general respect for all people and low patience for incompetence in a professional setting.

Being respectful to serving staff is a very low bar for getting mad respect. It's the bare minimum of being a decent human being while eating in a restaurant.

As much as I’m glad I did food service for many years, the worst part was always the people who forgot that we were people. It was always worth more than any amount of money when someone was pleasant and kind.
I feel like that waitress should have put some ginger on his plate to cleanse his pallette after that sushi pizza, but now that I think about it, that would probably be terrible as well.

I always judge a person's character by how the treat servers in a restaurant. It's not the server's fault if the food isn't good, or if the manager is an idiot. That's why I know Gordon is a good person, even tho most people think he's awful because of the way he's shown in the shows.

If you are absolutely bombing a dinner service and holding everybody back, he will tell you that. If you're clueless and make food that's absolute dog shit, he will tell you that. Yes he swears and yells and always acts like he's a dick but he's not. Gordon KEEPS IT REAL. But when you do make great food or nail a good dinner service, he will tell you that you did a good job. He's Grounded and Honest. All that screaming he does at people that stresses them out, is motivation.
He has such respect for the wait staff and such, he treats his own very awesome and knows the work they go through. It shows all the years he has gone through and not becoming a ignorant chef that thinks they know everything

As an Italian I think that the problem is the American concept of pizza, they always try to make it too fat, add too much toppings at the same time. They have to understand that the original pizza margherita was tomato and mozzarella, and that is still how I eat my pizza today. The most important part in a pizza is the base ingredients

There was nothing wrong with it except Gordon Ramsay thinks he's the Pharoah of food.
It is crazy to think there are actual restaurants like this that nobody would ever have thought to bat an eye at. Most places in my hometown boast about " try our signature house made sauce!" Or "dough made in house". And they pride themselves on it. Like "yes, we made this. Nobody else". But then you have these people who take no pride whatsoever in the things they make and serve to people. And thats how places like this turn up and go so quickly. One day you see a place go up and youre like "ooh look a new restaurant!". Next you're like "where'd it go?".
I once had a server tell me, "I'm here to give you the best experience, not the best service", and she did the same thing, tell me exactly how she felt about some of the dishes on the menu, and I proceeded to change my order. I had a great meal, and a great service to boot. Not only was she honest, I was happy as hell with the food she suggested, and she got a fat tip because of it.

Pauline is own of my favorite owners! She knew the food was bad and desperately wanted change but her husband was just too stuck up with a huge ego. She is also so sweet. She welcomed all the efforts and changes Ramsey provided! Luckily, Pete dropped the ego and embraced it as well and their restaurant is still going with great reviews!

It’s funny when they say “He’s just had fancy food he doesn’t understand” as if he was born eating only the most expensive food and thats all he ever eats. He’s had all kinds of food from all over the world, he isn’t asking these chefs and owners for Michelin star food he’s asking for bare minimum standards to be met to try and get the resturaunt back up. Part of being a chef means just because YOU like it doesn’t mean others will and you have to be aware of what customers want.
Ramsey complained about how greasy food was at an Italian-style pizzeria, where he tried to eat a Pizza with a fork. He may have just as well walked in there with a pair of chopsticks and asked for what they have without oregano. I'm not saying he doesn't have a right to his opinion, but that you'd be a fool to listen to him after that.

Yeah that pizza did look good until Gordon started to dissect it and we got to see grease and raw dough that is actually nasty.

It takes a rare talent to make pizza suck, even cheap microwave frozen pizzas taste good because pizza is pizza, even the cheapo slices from school back when I was young were still edible. So it's mind boggling when a place making actual fresh pizza makes them inedible and outright disgusting.
I’ve never seen that happen even bad pizza is still pretty damn good.

@@bub305 And if you think they don't taste good, you take pizza way too seriously or might just be a spoiled child who can whine and get fresh pizza from their parents at the drop of a hat or if you're buying it yourself as an adult that often, you must not know how to actually cook your own meals. I love pizza, but I am not going to order it fresh 24/7 both for financial and health reasons as a heavy pizza diet is not ideal for anyone and as far as my own cooking, I cook more random meats and rice dishes which I enjoy much more than pizza anyway, honestly a real pizza at this point in my life is like party food or when I am just in the mood to treat myself to an actual good pizza once in awhile. Sometimes on lazy nights when I am too busy to cook or don't feel like going out or ordering in, but have a craving for something pizza like, a frozen pizza is great. I'm not talking about a hot pocket, but there are some decent frozen pizzas out there now both oven and microwaveable that will more then hit the spot if you have just a slight craving for pizza, duh it's not as good as a real pizza, but it still can taste damn good and literally takes minutes to make, so the trade off is worth it if the situation calls for it. Must suck to be such a food snob, but you do you.

boi, im pretty dang sure he knows what a proper pizza is supposed to look and taste like.
That's the point, most proper pizza isn't like the pizza you're usually gonna find. Hell, to me that pizza looked delicious and I didn't even notice it was greasy until Gordon went out of his way to show. Of course, I don't know and I'll never know how it tastes like but that's my experience.

This is the greatest episode of Kitchen Nightmares ever. The waitress is my favorite part. She is the unsung hero. She brings it back to them and tells them exactly what Gordon says. She seems to enjoy it too. It's like she has known but couldn't say anything. However, my favorite part is that this restaurant is still open, and for once Gordon actually did help a place out. I recommend anyone watch this if they can.

When he "pulled" the pulled pork sandwich away from him is where I really think he crossed the line. He can play his holier than thou attitude all he wants, but when he interferes with a paying customers meal is cutting into the establishments profits...no matter how good or bad the food is.

In the 80's I was the manager and pizza maker for 12 years.. everything has changed. No one knows how to make a traditional pizza anymore.. I stopped eating pizza and all Italian food from restaurants. I make my own.
I know Gordon said sushi pizza is ridiculous (and that one looked absolutely disgusting) but there’s a sushi place right near where I live and they actually make a good sushi pizza. They have a crispy crepe on the bottom and they add spicy tuna, crab, mango, avocado, scallions, eel, and a mango sauce. So honestly more like an open-faced savory crepe with a lot of seafood on it? Idk, it’s really good though! I guess the restaurant also doesn’t have the same problem the one in the show does…their 4.9 star rating on Google with 1,000+ reviews sorta speaks for itself :)

Some may think Gordon is rude or mean, but he is one of the nicest guys around, he just tells it like it is no bs.
He is a nice dude, specially when you look at the other KN hosters, the Brazilian Kitchen Nightmares chef is as gentle as a sledgehammer, and the Portuguese one is very explosive... None of them are evil, but Ramsey is the more calm one...

His goal is to weed out people who claim to be chefs, but refuse to learn or get too complacent to maintain any sort of quality. You can see it between shows like this/Hell's Kitchen and Master Chef Jr. where they are still learning the craft.
I used to think he's rude, then I saw him on Hell's Kitchen and thought he was an asshole and now on this show he seems normal 💀

Honestly, when that happens, people should understand that waiters are the "face" of the restaurant. I mean, where can I go and complain if something is bad? We all know it's not the waiter's fault since they probably never touch the kitchen's floor.
It's like you're complaining to hotel receptionist for terrible services and nasty bedding. We know they aren't personally responsible for it, but they're the person we complain hoping they'd pass the message to the manager or the like.
@@triparadox.c you should bring up any issues with your food to your server, yes, but just don't be a dick about it. if for any reason you really feel the need to cause a scene, the least you can do is ask for a manager.
@@lejuanca Of course, don't make a scene like the restaurant just tried to scam you by charging $500 for that iced tea. But people can be mad if their food is straight out bad. If it's so bad, then they'd have to call for manager of course.

New viewer, here to the Kitchen Nightmares. This is very interesting to watch! Never was a big viewer of his show but I've seen enough to know who he is and that he will clown people if things aren't cooked right. Taking note of his presence and demeanor in these places. But my goodness... at this rate, I don't think he will like most places he goes to!
I mean, if you knew chef was coming, seems like this would be the one time recipes would be flawless and hair free!

He isn't critiquing you because your food is not fancy he's critiquing you because you claim to have the "best pizza in Denver" and serve up an undercooked greasy mess. At least with Mcdonald's, he knows what to expect because they do not claim to be fancy or have overly high-quality ingredients. He can tolerate below par food, he can't tolerate restaurants that lie about their food's quality.

Exactly, he critiques these restaurants for saying they have the best “x” and “y” while they can barely even cook an egg properly, while charging 2 to 3 times more than fast food….that meatball hero in the beginning looked so f gross, even a big mac meal looked way more appealing than that, and cheaper as well
